OF WASHINGTON INTERSCHOLASTIC ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION On behalf of the West Central District #3, (WCD 111), Board of Directors, the Basketball Advisory Committee, and our 75 member High Schools, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2008 West Central District 4A, 3A, and 2/\ Basketball Championship Tournaments. A special welcome and congratulations are extended to the participants of this year's tourney. You are to be commended for your hard work, practice and dedication which have enabled you and your teammates to achieve success. Congratulations also to the coaches of the competing teams who have trained and prepared these athletes to reach this high level of competition. The member schools of the WCD Ill believe in the value of interscholastic competition, from the baseball field to the volleyball court to the music hall. Competition is the glue that binds problem solving, logic, ethics, and leadership, as well as the vast array of factual knowledge taught in the schools. Just as important, interscholastic competition is a great tool to increase academic performance and citizenship standards for all participants. To the parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, other family members, friends and fans alike, I ask each of you to demonstrate outstanding sportsmanship. Please show your respect, appreciation and support to all the competitors and officials - not just your team. Regardless of the outcome of the tournament - everyone here is a winner. We ask the athletes to do their best and we also ask that you do your best to display good sportsmanship as well. Thank you for your support of the WCD Ill and for taking time to be a part of these young athlete's lives. \/Ve hope this is an experience which enriches their education! Dear High School Basketball Fans: Welcome to the West Central District Basketball Tournament! This tournament has, over the years, been the showcase for some of the state's finest high school basketball and basketball talent. As the largest district in the state, our WCD tournament is unique due to it's size, quality venues, and number of schools represented. Traditionally, throughout the nation, high school basketball tournaments remain as one of the events that spark the highest spectator interest. Along with the interest by the general public, success in a high school basketball tournament can recharge the spirit of a school and community. "March Madness" can literally, take over the emotions and pride of players, coaches, cheerleaders, fans and community members as a team begins it's long trek through the league and district tournaments and finally on to state. At the beginning of the season the goal of every high school basketball team is to make it to the state tournament and finish in the final four. Whether they reach their goal or not, it is the memories, traditions and even legends created by tournament competition which make it a great experience for all of those involved. Who can forget those memories from tournaments past of a close, action packed game in crowded gymnasium, won by a last second shot. The memories of this year's WCD tournament will challenge those of the past to last a lifetime' On another level, while only a few teams will be able to meet the goal of placing high at the state tournament, we will all have the opportunity to feel successful through the lessons taught by Sportsmanship. Each year during the playoffs, sportsmanship is put to the test as basketball tournaments produce a great deal of both positive and negative emotions. My challenge to all of us who are a part of this tournament ... fans, students, cheerleaders, administrators, coaches, players and officials ... is to place sportsmanship as our highest priority. Supporting your team can be expressed through positive reactions to good play, rather than attempts to degrade the opponent or officials. At no time does a supportive comment or cheer mean more to coaches and players than when a team is going through a tough time on the court. Let us allow our focus be on finding something positive to cheer about. "Modesty in Victory and Graciousness in Defeat" are the trademarks of a winner. Throughout this WCD tournament we can all be winners. So please join with me and promote and model the priority of good sportsmanship' Thank you for your support of high school athletics!
J.

On behalf of the West Central District =3, (WCD Ill), Board of Directors. the Basketball Advisory Committee, and our 75 member High Schools, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2008 West Central District 4A, .A, and 2A Basketball Championship Tournaments. A special welcome and congratulations are extencied to the participants oi this year's tourney. You are to be commended for your hard work, practice and dedication which have enabled you and your teammates to achieve success. Congratulations also to the coaches of the competing teams who have trained and prepared these athletes to reach this high level of competition. The member schools oi the WCD Ill believe in the value of interscholastic competition, from the baseball field to the volleyball court to the music hall. Competition is the glue that binds problem solving, logic, ethics, and leadership, as well as the vast array of factual knowledge taught in the schools. Just as important, interscholastic competition is a great tool to increase academic performance and citizenship standards for ;ill participants. To the p;irents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, other frimily members, friends and fans alike, I ask each of you to demonstrate outstanding sportsmanship. l'lerise show your respect, appreciation and surport to all the competitors and officials - not just your team. Regoirdless of the outcome of the tournament - everyone here is a winner. We ask the athletes to do their best and we also ask that you do your best to display good sportsmrinship as well. Dear High School B,1sketball Fans: Welcome to the West Central District Basketball Tournament! This tournamenl has, over the years, been the showc;ise for some of the state's finest high school basketball rind basketball talent. As the largest district in the stale, om WCD tournament is unique due lo it's si1<.>. qL1ality venues, and number of schools represented. Traditionally, throughout the nation, high school basketball tournc1ments remain as one of the events lhat spark the highest spectator interest. Along with the interest by the general public, success in a high school basketball tournriment can recharge the spirit of a school and community. "March Madness" can literally, take over the emolions and pride of players, coaches, cheerleaders, fans and community members as a team begins it's long trek through the league and district tournaments and finally on to state. At the beginning of the season the goal of ever)' high school basketball team is to make it to the state tournament and finish in the final iour. VVhether they reach their goal or not, it is the memories, traditions and even legends created b}' tournament competition which make it a great experience ior all of those involved. \\/ho can forget those memories from tournaments past of a close, action packed game in crowded gymnasium, won by a last second shot. The memories of this year's WCD tournament will challenge those of the past to last a lifetime! On another level, while only a iew teams will be able to meet the goal of placing high at the state tournament, we will all have the opportunity to feel successful through the lessons taught by Sportsmanship. [ach year during the playoffs, sportsmanship is put to the tct as brisketball tournaments produce a great deill of both positive and negative emotions. My challenge to ,111 of us who are a part of this tournament. .. fans, students, cheerleaders, administrators, c0c1Ches, play0rs and officials... is to place sportsmanship ;is our highest priority. Supporting your team can be expressed through positive reactions lo good play, rather 1han attempts to degrade the opponent or officials. At no time does a supportive comment or cheer mean more to coc1ches and players than when a team is going through a tough time on the court. Let us allow our focus be on finding something positive to cheer ilbout. "Modesty in Victory and Graciousness in Defeat" are the trademark of a winner. Throughout this WCD tournament we can rill be winners. So please join with me and promote ;rnd model the priority of good sportsmanship! Thank you for your support of high school athletics!
