Sri Lanka is a republic ,democratic state which is governed by the executive president and the parliament in Sri Jayawardenapura-Kotte, the capital. As a result of its location in the path of major sea routes, Sri Lanka is a strategic naval link between West Asia and South East Asia. It has also been a center of the Buddhist religion and culture from ancient times and is one of the few remaining abodes of Buddhism in South Asia along with Ladakh, and the Chittagong hill tracts. The Sinhalese community forms the majority of the population; Tamils, who are concentrated in the north and east of the island, form the largest ethnic minority

THE COUNTRY IS FAMOUS FOR THE PRODUCTION AND EXPORT OF TEA, COFFEE, COCONUTS, RUBBER AND CINNAMON, THE LAST OF WHICH IS NATIVE TO THE COUNTRY. THE NATURAL BEAUTY SRI LANKA HAS LED TO THE TITLE THE PEARL OF THE INDIAN OCEAN. THE ISLAND IS LADEN WITH LUSH TROPICAL FORESTS, WHITE BEACHES AND DIVERSE LANDSCAPES WITH RICH BIODIVERSITY. THE COUNTRY LAYS CLAIM TO A LONG AND COLORFUL HISTORY OF OVER THREE THOUSAND YEARS, HAVING ONE OF THE LONGEST DOCUMENTED HISTORIES IN THE WORLD. Before the civil war THE SRI LANKAN CIVIL WAR , WAS A CONFLICT FOUGHT ON THE ISLAND OF SRI LANKA. BEGINNING ON JUNE 23, 1983, THERE WAS AN ON-ANDOFF INSURGENCY AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT BY THE LIBERATION TIGERS OF TAMIL EELAM. AFTER A 26 YEAR LONG MILITARY CAMPAIGN, THE SRI LANKAN MILITARY DEFEATED THE TAMIL TIGERS IN MAY 2009]. FOR OVER 25 YEARS, THE INSURGENCY CAUSED SIGNIFICANT HARDSHIPS FOR THE POPULATION, ENVIRONMENT AND THE ECONOMY OF THE COUNTRY, WITH AN ESTIMATED 80,000–100,000 PEOPLE KILLED DURING ITS COURSE.[ THE TACTICS EMPLOYED BY THE LIBERATION TIGERS OF TAMIL ELAM RESULTED IN THEIR BEING BRANDED AS A TERRORIST ORGANIZATION IN 32 COUNTRIES, INCLUDING THE UNITED STATS, INDIA, AUSTRALIA, CANADA AND THE MEMBER NATIONS OF THE EUROPEAN UNION

For the last three decades, Sri Lanka has endured a long and hard civil war against a terrorized group know n as the liberation of the Tamil Tigers Ealam,(LTTE).This terrorist group has terrorized not only the Tamil that live in the North but also the Sinhalese ,Muslims and the armed forces have foiled the attempts of the LTTE from running the country , it took a long time to vanquish this terrorist group from the North.
