Terms and Conditions On registering for an IIT Undergraduate Programme I acknowledge that I have read, understood and agree to abide by the full (i) General Terms and Conditions, and (ii) IIT Undergraduate programme Key Terms and Conditions. Registration on an IIT Undergraduate programme constitutes full and irrevocable acceptance of our terms and conditions. 1. Student Warranties a) The student warrants that all documents and information supplied are true, authentic and correct. b) Where the student has supplied incorrect, fraudulent or misleading information, the student will automatically be withdrawn from the course, and will not be entitled to a refund of any fees paid.

Disclosure to the Immigration Authorities IIT reserves the right to disclose a student’s details, including academic progress and attendance rates, to the Immigration Authorities. 4. Programme Fees a) To book a place on a course, you must pay course registration fee and a minimum deposit of 50% of the fees for the first year. All deposits received are for the sole purpose of reserving a course place and are non-refundable, save as provided otherwise in these Terms and Conditions. b) All accepted students are required to pay the FULL tuition fees 14 days prior to the start date of the programme. c) Students who have not paid on time will not be granted to attend classes at IIT. d) Tuition fees are subject to change. e) IIT reserves the right to report offenders to the authorities, including the Immigration authority. f) Students may defer their place on a programme by up to one academic year. g) Non-payment of fees – IIT reserves the right to suspend and dismiss any student, at any time, for non-payment of fees or breach of student contract. No fees will be refunded for any student dismissed under this clause. 5. Refunds Policy a) Refund for withdrawal with a cause IIT will consider the scenarios listed below as grounds for request to withdraw: IIT fails, for any reason, to commence the course on the course commencement date; IIT terminates the course, for any reason; prior to the course commencement date; b) Refund for withdrawal without a cause IIT reviews all written notices of withdrawal (which are to be supported by relevant documents) on a case by case basis. IIT will consider the scenarios listed below as grounds for request to withdraw: -Medical reasons, like hospitalization (for more than 30 days), supported with certification from a Sri Lankan registered doctor -Pregnancy, supported with certification from a Sri Lankan registered Doctor In the above instances registration fee will not be refunded but course fee will be refundable on a pro-rata basis.

6. Published Programmes IIT reserves the right to alter published programmes. All programmes and courses are available subject to student demand. 7. Dates of Programmes IIT reserves the right to alter start dates of programmes. All course timetables are subject to change. 8. Code of Conduct Students are expected to conduct themselves, at all times, in a manner which demonstrates respect for IIT and its staff, fellow students, members of the public and IIT Property. Breaches of the student code of conduct may constitute gross misconduct, which may lead to expulsion from IIT. 10. Attendance a) Students are expected to attend 100% of their classes and must provide documentary evidence to excuse any absences due to ill health or personal circumstances. b) Students will be expelled from the programme and will not be entitled to any refund if they (i) Do not adhere to the attendance requirements (ii) Fail to start the course as scheduled without prior notification to IIT (iii) Are in breach of their visa conditions. 11. Withdrawal a) The student agrees that he/she cannot change, defer or withdraw from the programme without prior consent from IIT. Any failure to start the course as scheduled, without prior notification of the school’s authorities, will lead to expulsion from the course. No refunds will be given. b) Where a student has withdrawn from the programme without prior consent from IIT, IIT reserves the right to pursue the student for outstanding fees. 12. Exclusion To the extent permitted by law, we, other members of our group of companies and third parties connected to us hereby expressly exclude all conditions, warranties and other terms which might otherwise be implied by statute common law or the law of equity. 13. Such applications will be considered and if the reasons are acceptable to the Institute, a delayed payment may be allowed (A maximum of two months in exceptional cases and 15 days prior to the final examination being the limit). All other delayed payments are subject to the penalty referred to below. 3.2 Any delay in payment results in the levy of a penalty, (calculated per day at a rate of 2.5% per month on the outstanding balance). Such penalty plus an administration charge is also applicable to cheques accepted in payment of fees, which are subsequently not honoured. 3.3 Any student with outstanding fees or with any other outstanding obligation to the Institute beyond any permitted deadline, will be debarred from sitting the formal examinations. 3:4 Refunds 3.4.1 Refund for withdrawal with a cause IIT will consider the scenarios listed below as grounds for request to withdraw: IIT fails, for any reason, to commence the course on the course commencement date; IIT terminates the course, for any reason; prior to the course commencement date; 3.4.2 Refund for withdrawal without a cause IIT reviews all written notices of withdrawal (which are to be supported by relevant documents) on a case by case basis. IIT will consider the scenarios listed below as grounds for request to withdraw: Medical reasons, like hospitalization (for more than 30 days), supported with certification from a Sri Lankan registered doctor Pregnancy, supported with certification from a Sri Lankan registered doctor In the above instances registration fee will not be refunded but course fee will be refundable on a pro-rat a basis. All other delayed payments are subject to the penalty referred to below. 3.2 Any delay in payment results in the levy of a penalty, (calculated per day at a rate of 2.5% per month on the outstanding balance). Such penalty plus an administration charge is also applicable to cheques accepted in payment of fees, which are subsequently not honoured. 3.3 Any student with outstanding fees or with any other outstanding obligation to the Institute beyond any permitted deadline, will be debarred from sitting the formal examinations. 3:4 Refunds 3.4.1 Refund for withdrawal with a cause IIT will consider the scenarios listed below as grounds for request to withdraw: IIT fails, for any reason, to commence the course on the course commencement date; IIT terminates the course, for any reason; prior to the course commencement date; 3.4.2 Refund for withdrawal without a cause IIT reviews all written notices of withdrawal (which are to be supported by relevant documents) on a case by case basis. IIT will consider the scenarios listed below as grounds for request to withdraw: Medical reasons, like hospitalization (for more than 30 days), supported with certification from a Sri Lankan registered doctor Pregnancy, supported with certification from a Sri Lankan registered doctor In the above instances registration fee will not be refunded but course fee will be refundable on a pro-rat a basis. For all other written withdrawals without cause, the amount refundable is as per the Schedule below, where by it states IIT will refund the following; Percentage of aggregate If student's written notice of withdrawal is received amount of the course fees^ 70% (“Maximum Refund”) More than Thirty (30) days BEFORE the course commencement date 50% Thirty (30) days BEFORE course commencement date 25% Less than fourteen (14) days AFTER course commencement date 0% More than fourteen (14) days AFTER the course commencement date 4. COMMUNICATION While the Institute maintains contact with Parents or Guardians of Students, all communications regarding fees shall, in the first instance, be with the student. It is the responsibility of the individual student to ensure that necessary action is taken in this regard. Any formal communication regarding penalties, refunds, appeals etc., should be addressed to the Bursar.

Climate Sri Lanka is tropical country, with dry and wet seasons. The country experiences 2 monsoons, from May to August the Yala monsoon and Maha monsoon blows from October to January. Rainfall can be up to 4000mm a year. Colombo and the low-lying coastal regions have an average temperature of 27°C.

Language Singhalese is the official language and English is widely used as the language of trade and commerce. Indian dialects like Tamil and Indonesian Bahasa Indonesia are also widely spoken within those of the same community.

Religion The official religion of Sri Lanka is Buddhism and its tenets can be seen in the language, culture, clothing, food and architecture. There are also numerous Hindu temples, Christian churches and Muslim mosques. Every full moon is a gazetted public holiday in Sri Lanka known as ‘Full Moon Poya’. Sri Lanka also celebrates all major religious holidays such as Singhala and Tamil New Year, Christmas, Deepavali and Eid.

Apparels Since it’s always sunny in Sri Lanka, cotton is preferred. Informatics Institute of Technology has no dress code (as long as it’s not offensive) and thus students are free to wear anything that is comfortable.


Food Food is plentiful and cheap. Years of colonization and influence from other countries, Sri Lanka has adapted its food culture into a blend of different dishes yet remains distinctly its own form. Sri Lankans love spices; they love food that explodes with flavor. Being a tropical island, coconuts are an influential component of Sri Lankan cuisine. Coconut in some form or another is included in nearly all dishes. Rice and curry is the staple food of Sri Lanka, though various kinds of bread and noodle are equally common. Kotthu Rote is the Sri Lankan snack consisting of sliced-up bits of roti, expertly blended with your choice of chicken, beef, egg, onions, tomatoes and chilies. This is one food you cannot miss when you live in Sri Lanka. Western fast foods from major international franchise outlets are also available in Sri Lanka. You can find many supermarkets around the place and bazaars selling vegetables and meat.

Transportation Informatics Institute of Technology is conveniently located in Wellawatta, Colombo 06, right next to the Beach. Travelling to; is made easy with many buses running on the main road. Budget taxis are freely available with the ‘tuk tuk’ or ‘three-wheeler’ as the most prominent mode of transportation.

Overseas Student Health Cover All students studying at IIT are required to obtain a valid Overseas Student Health Cover before arriving to Sri Lanka. The insurance should cover the student for minimum 1 year for hospitalization up to US$10,000 and for Outpatient Department services.

Living Expenses Many international students rent apartments or houses in Sri Lanka. Units are normally furnished and rental does not include water, electricity and internet bills. Rentals depend on the location and standard of facilities provided. Rentals can range from Rs 50,000 to Rs 250,000 per month. The average costs (food and travelling) per month for a student is around Rs 50,000. Other costs depend on your lifestyle and habits where you may need to add (or minus) Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 per month.
