CARE
Taking Care of People: It Begins with Our Own.
Family
Our
We are each born into a family. And then there are families that we grow into, join, and build. Our families define who we are and what matters most, and they inspire us to build cornerstones of security, comfort, and health. It was 1972, and Guam had a Naval Hospital, a civilian hospital, and little else to serve its community’s healthcare needs. The island’s Catholic Diocese and government, yearning to provide for its extended family, requested for the assistance of United States mainland’s Family Health Plan. The people of Guam embraced the arrival of Family Health Plan on island. Before then, medical care was sparse and lacking continuity. With Family Health Plan, for the first time, families experienced the care of doctors that grew up with them – physicians and nurses that knew their medical history. Diseases were diagnosed, generations of family medical history monitored, and certain hereditary conditions mitigated; patients felt secure, knowing that their physicians understood their needs inside and out. More importantly, Guam had adopted a medical family with whom it could celebrate life’s most important moments: births, triumphs over illnesses, and miracles great and small.

Community
Our
Over the years our family has gotten bigger … and so have our needs. Our ‘family doctors’ have widened their embrace to protect our community, securing the health and wellbeing of a growing population. We look to the members of our family as our source of inspiration – to give generously, compassionately, and with excellence. Always nurturing, always reaching out to make a positive difference in our own community. Family Health Plan developed and introduced different services, beginning with its rebranding into ‘FHP’ in 1986: health insurance plans, medical facilities, and on-island healthcare specialists gave the people of Guam access to healthcare security and peace of mind.
1986 Family Health Plan becomes FHP. FHP now offers a clinic, insurance & network of specialists. Health insurance plan expands to Northern Marianas.

Our growth as a family parallels our own human journey: from infancy to childhood, from adolescence to maturity. Every milestone advances us to the next: moving us higher and higher, toward the standard we set for ourselves and even beyond. Years of hard work have made us expert providers of U.S.-standard medical care. And yet, expertise demands constant growth. So every day, we measure our performance from the perspective of our patients, seek out the best of the best in our industry, and design products in response to our members’ needs. We search for solutions around the world and bring them home to the people who matter most. In everything we do, we strive to make sure that the level of service and care we offer is the same one that our members have grown to love, enjoy, and appreciate over the years. Education is the keystone of empowerment, and an essential part of our commitment to our family. In this spirit, we strengthened generations through health education, instilling healthy habits early on to encourage a lifetime of wellness. When healthcare specializations were not readily available on-island, we expanded our services across the sea to give our family greater access to doctors, specialists, and procedures. We created partnerships in order to entrust our loved ones to capable hands, and provide them with equal access to the best care – wherever it was in the world.

Looking after a big family – it’s important to care for each other now, but equally important to prepare for and invest in our shared future. This means reaffirming our values, strengthening our resources, and building new partnerships. When the family unit is strong, each family member can thrive. We’re concerned about the health of our company because it is the cornerstone that sustains the people we care about most. At our company, every person is family. We recognize each one’s contributions to making our company strong, and in return, we strive to develop individual potential for personal growth and professional advancement. With an eye on the present and another to the future, we’ve constantly improved our technology to keep up with the times and develop services even before needs arise. In undertaking the crucial responsibility of looking after our people, we also work with other local companies to promote good will on-island and foster the overall development of the community.

Building and achieving dreams – it’s what we do together. Pressing onward through changes and challenges, our family adapts and transforms as it moves forward to brighter and better things ahead. In 2005, five of the senior management group of PacifiCare Asia Pacific acquired PacifiCare Health Systems to become TakeCare Insurance Company. Complementing this company is its full service FHP Health Centers on Guam and Saipan. The acquisition saves 300 jobs that would have been lost when PacifiCare Asia Pacific withdrew from the GuamSaipan market.

Our
What Lies Ahead? Our family has not only grown larger and more sophisticated; it is now challenged with a range of issues – from the economy, to healthcare law, to an increasingly global marketplace and more complex consumer needs.
10
How Can We Give Patients Better Access to the World’s Best? Healthcare access is a universal concern – across our region, our nation and the world. Can we provide families with the healthcare services they need, when they need it, at a price they can afford? How can we help them gain access to the best medical care the world has to offer? Our goal is to expand and strengthen our family’s network so that they have equal access to healthcare protection and quality care, regardless of their income or health plan coverage.

How Can We Empower through Health Education? Can our family members afford to get sick? It’s a burning question in light of rising healthcare costs. Everyone tightens their belts in times of uncertainty. Can our company innovate new products to ensure that families can continue to meet their basic needs – needs like medication and medical treatments – plus more? Our goal is to educate our family on how to efficiently spend their healthcare dollars, so that it covers all their needs. We aim to find cost-effective solutions without compromising the quality of care we want for our family.
12
How Can We Expand Healthcare Choice? Do our family members have enough good choices where their healthcare is concerned? Are they limited by their financial capacity or insurance coverage? How can we give them a sense of control over their health and wellness? Choice is power. Against the difficult economic and healthcare issues our world is faced with, we want to give our family members a range of viable options for their healthcare needs. We aim to put the world in their hands, to create pathways for them to receive the healthcare they deserve, as well as peace of mind.

What is Our Legacy? It is a question that is more significant now, than ever before. Like every family, we meet the challenges at hand, and, drawing strength from our three decades of experience, we move forward as one team. We’ve done it before, and we’re here to do it again: paint our own horizon by pushing the boundaries of healthcare so that it works for you, for your family, and your extended family.

Now we come together to embrace a new chapter in our family’s development: medical travel through Veiovis. We will pioneer new territory in global healthcare options for all, deliver groundbreaking solutions, and keep exploring what else we can do to make great things possible for everyday people.

The Future is Our Story How can we assure our family’s future? By writing
the story of that future, now. Our mission to give everyday people control over their healthcare remains the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. But each of us is needed to help express it, shape it, and make it happen.
