Light Shadows and Reflection Class 6 Science Worksheet This worksheet is for Class 6 Science, comprising the topic of Light, Shadows, and Reflection. It will help students develop a better understanding of Light Shadows and Reflection.

The completion of this worksheet will make students comprehend the following: 1. Discuss Luminous and Non-Luminous objects. 2. Discuss Transparent, opaque, and translucent objects. 3. What are the characteristics of images?

1. Discuss Luminous and Non-Luminous objects. Luminous objects – Luminous objects are defined as those that radiate both light and heat into their surroundings. Sun and stars are examples of luminous objects. Non-luminous objects – Luminous things produce their own light, but nonluminous things reflect the light that is produced by luminous things. Nonluminous things are things that do not make their own light. Examples include the Moon and the Earth.

2. Discuss Transparent, opaque, and translucent objects. Transparent objects: Objects are considered transparent if they do not disperse the light that passes through them while doing so. In simpler words, transparent objects are objects that let light travel through them without the light getting scattered. Example: glass

Translucent objects: Objects that are translucent are those that allow some light to pass through them despite their opaque appearance. Example: Butter paper

Opaque objects: Opaque objects are objects that block all light from passing through them. Example: a table or a book We see countless things everyday that come under one of those categories. Why don’t you think of a few and list them down?

3. What are the characteristics of images? The characteristics of images are as follows: 

The actual convergence of light beams creates a true picture. On a screen, real pictures are always formed.

A virtual image is defined as the apparent convergence of diverging light beams. It is difficult to obtain virtual images on a screen.

Unlike shadows, images contain color. They are generated by light beams converging after they have reflected off of things.

Now that we know so much about light and shadows and reflections, why don’t we try answering a couple of questions!

1. Fill in the blanks: 1. _________ is the form of energy. 2. Light always travels in a _________. 3. __________ is the phenomenon of seeing ourselves in the mirror. 4. Butter paper is an example of _________ materials.

2. State True/False: 1. Luminous objects are both artificial and natural sources of light. 2. When light is blocked by an object, a shadow is created. 3. Opaque items enable the light to flow entirely through them. 4. When we look in the mirror, we appear to be the same size, shape, and color.
