Comparing Numbers Worksheets |Maths Worksheet for Class 2 This worksheet is for class 2 maths and it comprises the topic of comparing numbers. It will help students to have a better understanding of comparing quantities and number systems.

After solving the worksheet, students will be able to learn the following: 1. How to compare two quantities? 2. What is the meaning of greater than? 3. What is the meaning of less than? 4. How to compare two numbers? 5. How to represent greater than and less than? 6. What is a number line?

To understand the number system, you should first be familiar with a number line.

A number line starts from 0 and contains all the possible numbers present in maths. Using this number line you can find out which number is greater or less than a given number.

In order to compare any two quantities, it is a must to have a level ground, from where the two quantities can be compared.

For example, if we compare the height of you and your friend, we first must make sure that you both are standing on the same ground and one of you is not standing on a higher ground than the other one. After standing on level ground, the height must be measured by a third person for fair competition and correct results.

Now if you want to compare two numbers, you must start comparing them from a level ground, that is zero, on the number line.

If the given number that falls left or before the other number on the number line is said to be less than or smaller than the other number.

For example, if we have to compare the numbers 8 and 10. The number 8 falls to the left of the number 10. Thus, we can say that number 8 is smaller than the number 10.

Similarly, if the given number that falls right or after the other number on the number line is said to be greater than the other number.

For example, if we have to compare the numbers 8 and 10. The number 8 falls to the left of the number 10. Thus, we can say that number 8 is smaller than the number 10. Similarly, The number 10 falls to the right of the number 8. Thus, we can say that the number 8 is larger than the number 10.

The symbol used to represent greater than is >.

The symbol used to represent lesser than is <.
