NCERT Solutions for Class 8 Maths – Square and Square roots In this post, we will discuss chapter 6 of Class 8th Maths. The topic of discussion is ‘Introduction to Square and Square roots’. We are well versed with the fact that area of a square = side *side, where side means the length of the side. If we will closely observe the numbers like 4, 9, 25, 64, 81, etc we will observe a fact which is these numbers can be rewritten as4=2*2 9=3*3 25=5*5 64=8*8 So, these numbers can be easily expressed as the product of the number itself and these types of numbers are also known as square numbers. If a natural number m can be expressed as n² where n is also a natural number, then m is a square number. Watch and learn Square and Square roots in an interesting manner. Let us consider a number 32 We know that 5²=25 and 6²=36. If 32 is a square number, it must the square of a natural number between 5 and 6 and as we know that there is no natural number between 5 and 6. So 32 is not a square number. Number Square 1

If we will observe the above table we will see a pattern that all the squares are ending with 0,1,4,5,6 or 9 at units place. None of them are ending with 2,3,7, or 8 at units place. 

We can say that if a number ends with 0, 1, 4, 5, 6, or 9, then it must be a square number.



If a number has 1 or 9 in the units place then its square ends in 1.
