Holtville High School students to host The Velcro Pygmies
Holtville High School is taking a fresh approach to education by participating in Reach and Teach, a nonprofit educational program that facilitates the opportunity for students to plan, promote and execute a real concert on their school campus.
“This real-world experience allows students to gain knowledge in bud - earth’s surface by tracing water’s journey from its source as a natural spring to its destination in a stream. They also learned about the extraordinary aquatic biodiversity we have in the state of Alabama.
In Aquatic Life Roundup students explored the myriad of life that is supported by a pond by using nets to sample for animals that live there. Students discovered how animals adapt to aquatic life and how their survival is related to water quality.
In the Aquatic Animal Presentation students had the opportunity to meet several of the ANC’s education animals, including water snakes, turtles, salamanders, frogs and alligators. The ANC is funded in

Holtville High School will host 80’s rock cover band, The Velcro Pygmies, for a student planned and promoted concert on November 14, 2022. The students have been working part by Alabama Power Company, Elmore Water and Sewer Authority, Central Elmore Water and Sewer Authority, Wetumpka Water Works and Sewer Board, Elmore County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Elmore County Community Foundation.
The Alabama Nature Center is a hands-on outdoor education facility located at Lanark in Millbrook. It is a joint project of the Alabama Wildlife Federation and benefactors Isabel and Wiley Hill.
The Lanark property, State Headquarters for the Alabama Wildlife Federation, contains 350 acres of forests, fields, streams, wetlands and ponds that are traversed by five miles of trails and boardwalks. In addition to the trails, boardwalks and pavilion, the ANC includes the Nature- the national average rising for the third straight week,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “Some of the refinery snags that have caused prices to surge in the West and Great Lakes appear to be improving, with prices in those two regions likely to inch down, even with OPEC’s decision, as the drop in wholesale prices has offset the rise due to the production cut. For now, I don’t expect much improvement in prices for most of the country, with California and the Great Lakes as the exception, with downdrafts likely in the days and weeks ahead.”

The hard work and effort of the students will culminate on November 14, at 1 p.m., in the Holtville High School Gymnasium.
