ETUMC’s Rivers Edge Flea Market is now closed. The church will start a new project called Rivers Edge Food Pantry. ETUMC will provide canned food, water, dry beans and rice, blankets, and jackets. If you want to donate or help with the cause, call Joan Wood at 334312-4913.

EPISCOPAL CHURCH OF THE EPIPHANY

More recently I read Rachael Denhollander’s book, “What Is A Girl Worth?” She was the second gymnast to accuse Dr. Larry Nassar, and the first to be believed. Eventually Nassar faced some 200 accusations. Denhollander now coaches evangelical churches about sexual abuse prevention and reporting.

Churches must have policies in place to protect boys and girls. We want to be the happiest and safest place on earth for them.

FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

First Presbyterian Church, located at 514 Central Blvd. will host a Veteran’s Day Celebration on Nov. 11 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. for all veterans and first responders and their family members.

FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

“We are OPEN and everyone is WELCOME! Come worship with us in person Sunday mornings at 8:50 a.m. (contemporary) or 11 a.m. (traditional). Sunday School for all ages is offered Sunday mornings at 10 a.m., and a nursery is available for infants. CHILDREN & YOUTH: meet convicted of harming children, even when they’ve paid their debt to society and repented before God. They cannot be near children, and they cannot be unaccompanied in church buildings.

Surely one of the most difficult things churches may be called to do is befriend offenders like these and foster a human connection.

Churches work hard to be welcoming and affirming, but today, churches cannot afford to be complacent.
