Work environment Brickmasons usually work outdoors. Masons stand, kneel, and bend for long periods and often have to lift heavy materials.


Training and education Some start as helpers, laborers, or mason tenders. Some learn the trade at technical school. Others by apprenticeships.

Qualifications The most desired qualities in workers are dependability and a strong work ethic. Knowledge of basic math, including measurement, volume, mixing proportions, algebra, plane geometry, and mechanical drawing are important in this trade.
