The sun: Mrs. Setlock's graduates Mrs. Setlock’s students bring happiness and kindness to THS on a daily basis. Like the sun, they warm our hearts time after time.

Samantha Barron

Andrew Foesig

This year, Mrs. Setlock has three shining seniors who will be graduating from her class. These three seniors, Samantha Barron, Nathan Frye, and Andrew Foesig are incredibly talented, determined, and witty individuals who are ready to take the world by storm and show what they are have to offer! Let’s delve into the world of these three students and learn more about them: When looking back on this final year, Samantha said that her favorite part about school was the “field trips and talking with her friends.” Students in Mrs. Setlock’s class frequently take trips to various places in the community, as well as to the Special Olympics. Nathan and Andrew both agreed that lunch was their favorite part of the day. I mean, can you blame them? Who doesn’t love food! When they aren’t going on field trips, Samantha said that she “likes to spend time with her friends.” Accomplishments are a huge part of everyone’s life. It’s with the support of others that we progress throughout life and make change happen. For Nathan, this year he mastered the art of food preparation. With Mrs. Setlock by his side, he was

Nathan Frye

able to achieve his goal by continually working hard towards it. For Andrew, Mr. S. McCabe is someone that he admires above everyone else. Mr. McCabe provides him with the support and encouragement that he needs to achieve his goals. Without hesitation, Andrew said that gym is his favorite class. With graduation just a few days away, all three of Mrs. Setlock’s students say that they are each going to miss something different. For Samantha, she’s going to miss her teachers who have been there for her at every step of the way. Nathan, on the other hand, is going to miss all of the incredible friends that he’s made over his schooling career. And, finally, Andrew says that he will miss both his friends and his teachers. They are, however, looking forward to summer! All three agreed that they’re ready to spend time relaxing and swimming on the warm summer days. Congratulations to Samantha, Nathan, and Andrew for their incredibly hard work and dedication over the past few years. Best wishes in a prosperous future!

The bark: Prom Prom is a special day that high school girls have been anticipating and dreaming about since they were little and guys didn’t even start thinking about until a couple of months before. It is an extraordinary and magical night that we will carry with us through college, adulthood, and when we are sitting on our rocking chair on the porch of our beach house or country home and holding the hand of the one we love and who loves us, we will reminisce on the wonderful night the class of 2015 spent together on May 2nd, 2015. The eagerness and anticipation of this night resonated with us for months and as it approached closer and closer, there were a lot of components that go into one very special night. First and foremost, girls need to choose a dress (that’s way easier said than done), then get their nails done to match. After that, girls need to scroll through Tumblr or look up pictures online to find that perfect hairstyle that will pull the outfit together. Then there’s shoes, jewelry, alterations, make-up, and maybe even a pre-prom diet. All of this preparation went into effect on May 2nd, which is the one of the three “P’s” of prom: preparation, pictures, and prom. After the first “P” was complete, pictures were taken with friends and family to always have something to remember the night with. Pictures are probably the worst part, however, because girls honestly can’t last that long in heels and it was a scorching eighty degrees out that day. But, it was all worth it when we arrived at the third “P” of the day: prom. Watching everyone get out of their rides in sparkly, beautiful dresses with their lovely dates was the beginning of a magical night. After everyone got pictures with friends and a photo courtesy of Flexer, seniors went right to the snack table 4

in the middle of the room full of fruit and dip. Then, we ate a wonderful meal which consisted of a salad, chicken fingers, vegetables, buffalo pasta, and mashed potatoes. A complimentary dish of ice cream with a brownie followed. After that, we took some more photos, explored the photo booth and slushie machine, passed around a camera and a video recorder to take pictures with, and danced for hours to upbeat and awesome songs. The mosh-pit, “the whip” dance off, and cotton-eye-joe were just a few fun dances that took place during the night. The prom king and queen were also a memorable moment for all of us to witness as Paige Demetriades and Kyle Weaver swept the title. At the end of the night when all was said and done, the class of 2015 left with tired feet, a smile on their face, and lots of happy and awesome memories.

The rain: wise words of wisdom Like trees, humans need nourishment in order to grow and thrive. Comparable to rain, teachers provide us with nourishment through the knowledge and encouragement that they provide for us on a daily basis. Below are some of their favorite quotes, and encouraging thoughts, that they live by on a daily basis.

Mrs. skuba

“You can’t make everyone happy, so remember what’s truly important”

mrs. chromiak

“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children...to leave the world a better place..to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Mrs. Beltz

“Don’t get stuck on the idea that these are the best years of your life. You’ll never move forward if you’re always looking back.”

Miss lutz

“Attitudes are contagious…makes yours worth catching! Congratulations to the class of 2015! Your positive attitude will help you go far on your next adventure.”

mrs. miorelli

“As a Star Wars fan, I couldn’t resist....May the Force be with you.”

mrs. segedy

“The world is more malleable than you think and it’s waiting for you to hammer it into shape.” -U2 10

Tamaqua Blue and White Magazine: Issue X, Volume IX: Senior Edition

Mr. j. mccabe

“It’s not what you do when things are easy; it’s what you do when things are hard that shows TRUE CHARACTER”

mrs. deren

“ Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.”

Mrs. buglio

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated failures. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.” –Calvin Coolidge

Miss mazaika

“Sometimes we need to leave the places where we are most comfortable. We need to push ourselves into the world of our own intuition. What you will discover is wonderful. What you will discover is yourself.”

mrs. mccormick

“My father always used to say, “It is not doing the things we want to do, but liking the things we have to do, that makes life blessed.” I have found that to be true: if you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life, because it will feel like fun, not work.”

mrs. fink

“When you feel like quitting, think about why you started.”

miss hallick

“Be too positive to be doubtful, too optimistic to be fearful, and too determined to be defeated.” --Hussein Nishah

mrs. gardiner

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who’ll decide where to go.” - Dr. Seuss Tamaqua Blue and White Magazine: Issue X, Volume IX: Senior Edition

The soil: our class

It’s nearly 13, or 14, years ago that we embarked on our last free summer as kids. Although we didn’t understand fully at the time, our parents knew that as the fall would approach, we would embark on our first real journey of life: school. For the last 12 years, we’ve all been working toward a common goal to obtain our diplomas, get into the college of our dreams, and move forward with the crazy roller coaster ride called ‘Life.’ It goes without saying that our class is truly one in a million. I vividly remember my mom coming home from Fun Day in middle school and telling me that Mrs. McCormick had told her how exceptional our class was. “It’s once in a teacher’s career that you get the opportunity to teach a class like theirs,” she had told my mom. I think what sets us apart from other classes is our tight-knit relationship 16

throughout. Unlike many classes, we willingly accept others for who they are and refuse to turn a blind eye towards those who are struggling. As the generations progress, we as a society are becoming more and more open and accepting of new things. Without hesitation, I would say that our class has the leaders who will make society more wholesome and bright. It’s hard to find words to truly describe our class, and it’s even harder to imagine saying one final farewell at graduation. Although the end may be near, the memories that we’ve created will live on for an eternity. I mean truly, who could forget sophomore bacon fundraiser; or, even better, the real-life Spanish cocoa experience with Señora L? It’s these memories that complete us. Each memory, whether it is joyous or sad, makes up a

Tamaqua Blue and White Magazine: Issue X, Volume IX: Senior Edition

part of us that nothing else can fill, or will ever be able to replace. Because, 10, 20, maybe even 30 years from now, you won’t remember the Calculus test that you didn’t pass (Although, you may remember the graph that Mr. G drew to represent our motivation…) but, rather, the unforgettable moments that you had with your friends. By the time you read this, we will be embarking on our final hours as high school students. With the shake of a hand, and a farewell wish, we will be entering the next chapter of life. I can say with confidence, that whether you graduate in the top 10, or even 150th in our class, you each have the potential, drive, and determination to change the world. Don’t limit yourself based upon a standard that is created to determine your ‘success.’ Set your own goals, work hard, and celebrate each victoriously when you achieve them. In the end, your GPA or SAT score won’t define your success in life. It’s what you do, who you become, and the work ethic that you put in that will define true success. And so, Class of 2015, its been real. I wish each and every one of you the best of luck in future, all the happiness in the world, and all the riches that you desire. Work hard, smile often, and stay in touch! Best wishes,
