Hola! I’m Tamara this is my work, its a mixed bag from my free flowing illustrations to my griddy design work. I’ve been working in Dublin for the past year as a graphic designer with Dunnes Stores (who need no introduction). The year’s experience has taught me loads about being a designer and has helped me to develop my skills. They say its a bad idea but I live to work and I love every minute! Most of the projects in this portfolio have seen me with a serious case of red-eye at some stage. I hope you enjoy viewing my work as much as I did creating it! Hasta la vista amigos.

In the year 2020 Cod will be extinct. This piece shows five statistics on the extinction of cod. These are placed in a fish and chip wrapper where type is set on a newspaper, overlapping with the type on the paper and representing different aspects of how cod is soon going to disappear. The problem for this brief was to not only make type legible, but to find a medium that expresses the idea and statistics given appropriately. The newspaper where the statistics are placed was also designed, this was called “The Daily Catch, where topics on the death of cod are also stated. The last statistic is pulled out of the wrapper, representing the last cod being pulled out from the sea. The main photograph shows the fish and chip wrapper, made up of the closed newspaper. This project shows the use of typography working within design, as well as layout.

ADVERTISING An advertisement campaign for Starbucks was designed to promote the food sold in the café. Starbucks prides itself of selling fair trade, natural foods and drinks so the colour scheme represents this message. Creative typography was designed to attract the eye of the client, using funny and interesting quotes to advertise on the street and within the café. The campaign uses phrases such as: “Tell me what you eat and I will tell you who you are” Flyers, posters, mugs and sugar sachets will all have the advertisement implemented onto them.

I LOVE TYPE (I REALLY DO)

In the digital times we live in, everything seems to be made on the computer. ‘I Love Type’ is a collection of experimental hand rendered type, using different styles and mediums. The pieces range from photography based type to illustrated type. This collection of images is a celebration for those who still believe in working by hand and creating hand rendered pieces as well as my own love for drawn type. This piece holds a world of hand rendered type and explores different techniques, styles and mediums and how different styles can send different messages . “Typography needs to be available. Typography needs to be felt. Typography needs to be experienced. ” Helmut Schmid
