Ekurhuleni grants extension for renewal of licenses
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the City is offering eligible drivers more time to renew their expired driver’s licenses. Extension is granted for those who possess learner’s licenses, driving
license cards, temporary driving licenses and professional driving permits that expired during lockdown. Licenses that expired between 26 March and 31 August are deemed valid until 31 January 2021.
Divisional Head for Licensing Hamilton Ledwaba said, “We have extended the period for renewal of these licenses with a goal of allowing our staff to deal with the backlog that came as a result of the Covid-19 lockdown. We are working with limited staff complement due to Covid-19 regulations of social distancing and having to let employees with comorbidities to stay at home.” He said, “We encourage residents to take advantage of this extended period to renew their licenses online and not wait for the deadline to approach. “You will not be required to take a driving test when you renew your driving licence. You will undergo eye testing and your fingerprints will be taken. Alternatively, you can have your eyes tested by an optometrist and submit the report at the driving licence testing centre (DLTC). If your sight has worsened from the date on which your license was issued, new conditions will be attached to the new licence.”

How to renew your license? All Gauteng residents must apply online for the renewal by visiting https:// online.natis.gov.za/ • Complete form DL1: Application for renewal of driving license card. • Complete the notification of change of address, or particulars of person or organisation (NCP) form. • You will do an eye test or you can do it at an optometrist of your choice and take the results to the DLTC on your appointment date.
What do I take with on appointment day? • Identity Document (ID) and a copy of your ID, • Old driving license card, or valid South African passport, • Four black-and-white ID photographs, • Proof of residential address. If the utility bill is not in your name, the owner of the bill must make an affidavit declaring that you live at the address, and the utility bill must be attached to the affidavit. If you stay at an informal settlement, you must bring a letter with an official date stamp from the ward councillor confirming your residential address, • Prescribed application fee.

It is tested on two fronts: • Firstly, Rand Water, which is the supplier of the water, treats it at their water treatment plants and ensures the quality by strict monitoring of the treatment processes, as well as daily sampling, and analysis – performed by qualified personnel. • Secondly, on behalf of the City, the Water Quality Section from the Water and Sanitation Department collects samples throughout the reticulation network at daily intervals for testing. Qualified water quality officers perform on-site testing to ensure chlorine levels are sufficient and water samples are submitted for detailed testing at the East Rand Water Care Company (ERWAT) laboratory which is accredited by South African National Accreditation System (SANAS). The analysis results are measured against the SANS 241 standard for drinking water quality. Reporting on compliance with the SANS 241 standard: The Water Quality Section produces a monthly compliance report that lists the chemical and bacteriological analysis results against the SANS 241 requirements. All drinking water sampling points results are also reported as a 12-month rolling average. About the laboratories used for testing • Rand Water Analytical Services is fully accredited by SANAS and demonstrates the organisation’s acceptance of international quality standards. The
