ALBERTON & GERMISTON I WITH THE COMMUNITY
Alberton’s adored hero passes away
15 January Week 03Week 21 Volume 09, 2019, 23 May 2017,
Beloved resident and member of the Alberton Heritage Society, Jerry Kobyzsky, passed away on 18 December 2018. Jerry was remarkable in so many ways. He lived his life to the fullest and touched so many people during his time there. The Alberton Heritage Society says they look through the kaleidoscope of his life and see the many valued and meaningful roles that Jerry played. tame TIMES understands that Jerry was not just a valued member of the Alberton Heritage Society but was also a good friend to countless people. He shared his expertise and passion with the team and he worked hard and consistently to establish a museum in Alberton by continuously finding and donating valuable artefacts. As a photographer his photos did not just make it possible to preserve all the special memories but it was also a reflection of his passion for the environment and its beauty. He never became complacent, he never stepped back from a challenge. He led by example and through his wealth of knowledge his artefacts on “forgotten technology” was a big inspiration for the Grade 4s whose schools requested the presentation by the Alberton Heritage Society. “He was a role model and an inspiration to all of us. Even though he was not a born South African he left no stone unturned in his quest to preserve South Africa’s heritage for future generations. Regrettably his dream of establishing a Museum in Alberton was not fulfilled,”

says the Society. It is hard to say goodbye but we need to remember that he touched so many people’s lives, so positively. He leaves an amazing legacy behind. Jerry left the world a better place than when he found
it and for that we shall always be grateful. Jerry, we will miss you - but will remember you fondly - always! The memorial service was held on 2 January 2019 at the St Theresa’s Catholic Church in Alberton.

DIGNITY DA COUNCILLOR
INTRODUCES DIGNITY PROJECT DA Ward Cllr Malcolm Maifala has announced the establishment of a Dignity Project aimed at ensuring that, as a community, we play an active part in making sure that teenagers do not miss a day of school. “With the new year that just kicked off, one of the first thoughts we have is that of helping learners with their schooling; and this year is no different,” said Maifala. He adds that society faces the reality of girls missing school as they cannot afford sanitary towels and believes that it is for this reason that the Ward Committee and Chantelle Habib have come together to drive this project of giving dignity to all teenagers. “We therefore call on the community to join us in giving children from less privileged backgrounds the dignity of basic sanitary products. While girls are most affected by the need of sanitary towels, we believe that in a lot of cases, lack of personal care products for both girls and boys is essential to include in the project,” said Maifala. The public is encouraged to start purchase and donate personal care products to contribute towards protecting the right to dignity for teenagers who cannot afford to buy these products. “Over the next six months, we will be on a drive to collect a 100 and more packs to distribute to those in need. The packs will also be distributed through the Alberton Child Welfare as well as other organisations which work with children,” concluded Maifala. The official launch of the project will take place in March when all organisations involved will be introduced. For more information, feel free to send an email to malcolm. maifala@ekurhuleni.gov.za.

Elke nuwe jaar bring nuwe uitdagings. “I went to the woods because I wished

to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary. THE PROPOSED ESTABLISHMENT OF AN ANIMAL BLOOD PROCESSING PLANT IN WADVILLE, GERMISTON, SOUTH AFRICA DEA-reff: 12/9/11/L18112914031/3 The proposed facility will be situated in Wadeville Germiston, within the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality in the Gauteng Province of South Africa. The site is located at ERF549, 28 Nagington Road in an industrial area in Wadeville. The proposed facility will entail the process of converting animal blood into plasma protein powder. The process comprises of using technology that applies the aseptic method on fresh blood acquired from abattoirs that adheres to safety regulations, then add anticoagulant into the blood and start the cooling process. The blood will be stored in stainless steel containers and transported to the factory. Then high-speed centrifugation process will be used on the blood to separate the blood cells from the blood plasma, condense it, and then the concentrated blood plasma will be dry sprayed under high pressure at 200℃ into a drying tower to be dried, it will then be steamed and cooled again. This is an effective safe and fast way converting the liquid state blood plasma into a solid-state powder form. By using this method, it will minimize the chances of the blood plasma being contaminated and ensures the best quality of the protein contained in the blood plasma. Notice is hereby given in terms of National Environmental Management Act (Act 107 of 1998) (NEMA): Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, 2014 R982 (2014 EIA Regulations), Section 41 (2) (a) (b) (c) (d) (e) published in Government Notices No. R982, under Sections 24 (5) and 44 of NEMA, of RECIRCLE SA cc’s intention to undertake the development of a blood plasma processing plant. WATERSTONE COLLEGE
First day of
15 January 2019 Lane Peens started her first day at Laerskool Randhart
embarks on a new season school excitement! On Friday morning, 11 January, Waterstone College welcomed 145 Grade 8s in to their high school community. An induction ceremony was held in their honour where they rang the bell and received their blazers as a symbol of joining the Waterstone family. Learners were encouraged to use this opportunity to make their mark, participate actively, take risks and make the school proud. Earlier last week, tame TIMES had the opportunity to meet the newly appointed Head of the High School, Mrs Simone Bock who started her journey at Waterstone College on 1 January 2019. Her vision for the high school is a simple one: developing skills in learners to compete internationally. Mrs Bock joins the Waterstone family from the Department of Education and Knowledge in Dubai where she was employed as the Academic Quality Improvement Officer for the past 12 years. At the centre, she was responsible for managing, developing and implementing various projects and programmes across seven schools that formed part of an educational reform agenda. Keeping on top of the latest international education trends and developments has enabled Mrs Bock to gain an invaluable and enriched perspective of the education world. She holds Bachelor’s degrees in Sociology, Psychology and the Humanities and a Masters degree in Educational Psychology.

LaLiga ends 2018
with great support 2018 came to a blissful close, as the soccer community of Katlehong township endured 14-days of actionpacked, kasie flavoured football during the sixth annual Scara Ngobese Memorial Games, held at the famous Somhlolo Grounds. The Ekurhuleni Games are one of three festive season township tournaments that Spanish Football League, LaLiga supported during the festive season. The festive season tournament, which commenced on 17 December 2018, aimed at empowering the local community through skills development and youth upliftment. LaLiga, thus took it upon itself to support the tournament through branding, kit sponsorships, soccer balls and CSI initiatives, such as a u13 and u15 soccer clinic lead by former Bafana Bafana midfielder, Teboho Mokoena. The Scara Ngobese Memorial Games and the Scara Ngobese Trust was established in memory of its namesake – Emmanuel “Scara” Ngobese. These games were
