“Tyrone was our life and we will miss him. He will always be remembered”

“Tyrone was our life and we will miss him. He will always be remembered” tame TIMES sadly reports that the body of missing Tyrone Lessing has been discovered on Friday afternoon, 6 September, 14-days after his fatal car accident, just metres away from the scene in Alberton. The 27-year-old Tyrone Lessing was reported missing after his family could not find his body at the accident scene in the Mayberry Park area on 24 August. tame TIMES was in contact with Charlotte Lessing, the mother of Tyrone Lessing, who said that it is not an easy time for her and her family and they are grieving the loss of her son. “On Friday evening, 23 August, Tyrone

called me and said him and his wife went for dinner and later had an altercation, so he was on his way to me (about 4km drive) but he never arrived,” Charlotte Lessing. On that night, Lessing said she phoned trying to get hold of him but it was only the following morning when she got through and a police officer answered Tyrone’s cellphone. The police officer informed her that his belongings had been found at the accident scene but there was no body. “I rushed when they told me where this had happened, we couldn’t find him. There was no blood or footprints at the scene,” she said. Lessing lodged a missing persons docket at the Brackendowns police station, after pleading with police to thoroughly search the crime scene. “Days passed and there was still no sign of Tyrone,” said Charlotte. “I then approached Clairvoyant Cheryl (Vos), who has experience in spiritually contacting with missing people, to assist us in finding my son,” she added. Clairvoyant Cheryl (Vos) also added to tame TIMES that she specialises in missing children and adults for years now and is willing to help anyone with a missing case. The family together with private investigator Wendy Pascoe and Roodepoort Captain Yorke were led to the sewage drain where Tyrone’s lifeless body had been laying, just metres from where the accident occurred. “We went to the scene and found his body laying there in the sewage drain,” said Pascoe. Seeing the body of Tyrone was heart breaking for the family. “My heart was shattered in pieces. This is every parents’ worst nightmare,” said Charlotte. Charlotte Lessing is awaiting the results of an autopsy and is questioning whether the police were negligent during the investigations. When tame TIMES asked Charlotte how she and her family were doing, this is what she said: “Our family is mourning and all we want is closure. Tyrone will be missed very much because he was our life. Jordan also misses his big brother and wishes this never happened. His was not just my son but my best friend and we did everything together. We went through a lot together

and he was always there for me. His father and brother will also miss him and we will never stop thinking about him and we will love him forever and ever,” said Charlotte. Charlotte also asked tame TIMES to thank the following people who assisted in finding Tyrone. Pink Ladies organization Private investigator Wendy Pascoe and Roodepoort Captain Yorke Clairvoyant Cheryl (Vos). tame TIMES team prays for God’s comfort and peace for our colleague and friend Charlotte along with her family in this time of loss. The memorial and funeral dates will be confirmed later this week on the tame TIMES Facebook page.

Enough is ENOUGH

Help the City grow its future leaders – get them vaccinated

Health practitioners have observed an alarming trend of parents missing their children’s immunisation appointments, while some lose the immunisation cards commonly known as ‘the road to health cards’. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), immunisation prevents deaths ranging from 2 million to 3 million each year. Thus, the City of Ekurhuleni reiterates that every day is an immunisation day, and every child must be vaccinated according to the immunisation schedule. “It is important to get your little ones protected from vaccine-preventable diseases, and the first step towards ensuring that, is through vaccination. It doesn’t matter whether you lost

the road to health card or missed the scheduled date, ultimately a child must be immunised,” said Sister Tembi Mahlangu, a Manager Nursing Services at Brackenhurst Clinic in Alberton. Sister Tembi further indicated that children need all the required vaccinations at the right time during their developmental stages. Skipping a stage poses a threat to a child’s development, making them prone to vaccine-preventable diseases. Vaccines stimulate the body’s immune system, which helps to prevent and protect children from serious illnesses such as polio, hepatitis, measles, meningitis, diphtheria, pneumonias and other life-threatening illnesses that affect children as they grow.

Instead of celebrating the arrival of Spring and the singing of birds, sadly we are mourning the gruesome and cruel passing on of innocent souls at the hands of merciless killers who do not value human life. Leighandre Jegel, Uyinene Mrwetyana, Karabo, and Thoriso join a long list of young women whose lives were brought to an untimely and abrupt halt by their murderers. Is the right to life enshrined in our Constitution for the sole preserve of

the murderers? Why is it that our laws in this country create an impression that the most vulnerable in our society, actually do not count? How is our Constitution responding to the right to life for the innocent victims whose lives have been taken? How come the murderers and rapists seem to be having more rights, protection and a free reign to prey on our children at their will? Please send your answers to Garin. Joemath@tameTIMES.co.za

The 27-year-old teacher who was arrested for allegedly orchestrating the kidnapping of 6-year-old Amy’Leigh de Jager at Laerskool Kollegepark in Vanderbijlpark is a close friend of the child’s mother, Angeline de Jager. On the teacher’s Facebook page, the two women can be seen together in several pictures, and compliment each other using the nickname “heksie” (little witch). The teacher’s name is known to News24, but cannot be revealed until she has appeared in court. On Thursday, national police spokesperson Vishnu Naidoo said the court appearance had been moved to Monday. The teacher was arrested on Wednesday along with two others. On Thursday, Amy’Leigh’s father Wynand de Jager confirmed that the teacher was known to the family.

Four men snatched Amy’Leigh from her mother’s car at the school on Monday and drove off in a white Toyota Fortuner, News24 previously reported. Her kidnappers dropped her off between 02:00 and 02:30 on Tuesday in a street close to The Shakespeare Inn hotel in Vanderbijlpark. A man and a woman took her to the Vanderbijlpark police station where she was reunited with her parents. On Thursday, shocked residents of Vanderbijlpark and friends of the De Jager family told News24 that Angeline and the teacher were “besties” who knew each other well. Images on Facebook appeared to confirm this. In one picture of the two of them, posted on August 1, almost exactly a month before Amy’Leigh’s kidnapping, Angeline comments: “Jitte heksie maar jys mooi!” (Wow, heksie, you are so pretty!), to which the teacher replies: “jys die mooiste heksie!!” (you are the prettiest heksie!). In another post on March 17, Angeline writes: “Baie liefde vir jou!!” (Much love for you!). The teacher was suspended on Thursday following her arrest. This was announced by Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi at the school on Thursday afternoon, following a meeting with the school governing body. The two others who were arrested are a 40-year-old woman and 50-year-old man. The three were allegedly ready to skip town and had packed suitcases when they were arrested by members from the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, a security official told News24 on Thursday. The security official told News24 the room where Amy’Leigh was held after being kidnapped was dirty, dark and “almost like a dungeon”. “It was no place for a child; hell, it was not fit for any human,” he said. The motive for the kidnapping is a subject of much speculation. According to a source, as well as a WhatsApp voice note attributed to the teacher’s stepfather, which has not yet been verified, the teacher owed money to drug lords. A ransom of R2m was initially demanded following Amy’Leigh’s kidnapping.

Violent and horrific protests in

Kathlehong and Thokoza

Violent protests broke out in a number of Gauteng cities on Monday, 2 September. In Johannesburg, over 90 people were arrested for looting shops and damaging property. tame TIMES was in Kathlehong and Thokoza where the most horrific and violent protests erupted in the history of these two areas. Smoke hung like a cloud over the township as a mob of about 500 people took to the streets, throwing rocks, screaming and leaving

a trail of destruction in their wake. Protesters took to the streets allegedly in an attempt to remove foreign nationals from the area and looting their businesses. A group of people went to the malls and local shops in the areas to loot. Police managed to arrest hundreds of people while they were inside the shops. In neighbouring Thokoza, a great many suspects were arrested on charges of public violence. Gauteng police spokesperson Mathepelo

Peters says that the situation in Katlehong was calm on Friday morning, 6 September. “While 11 people were killed during this period, only 7 deaths have been directly linked to the incidents of violence as police investigate the circumstances of each death.” The violence, looting and targeting of foreigners that left a trail of despair and destruction in Kathlehong, Thokoza and various areas in Gauteng, has left the country in a “state of shock”.

EKURHULENI JOINT OPERATIONS CENTRE TURNS TIDE AGAINST XENOPHOBIC ATTACKS

Following the recent outbreak of xenophobic attacks the City of Ekurhuleni established two sites that are currently housing about 800 displaced foreign nationals, 588 adults and 227 children. The two sites, at DH Williams and Tsholo Hall in Katlehong, are housing foreign national that were displaced from Mandela Informal Settlement and Nhlapo Section in Katlehong, among other areas. The City has subsequently activated the Joint Operation Centre (JOC) to provide humanitarian and related assistance to the affected persons, as well as stabilizing the security situation in the region. Various City departments are providing necessary support, such as waste removal, electricity supply and additional ablution facilities. The City is also providing standby mobile power generators, metro police patrols and escorts for transport of the affected persons and delivery of their necessities. Various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and humanitarian assistance organisations responded overwhelmingly to the humanitarian situation. Among those organisations, which are continuing to provide to the need of the displaced persons are the Doctors without Borders, Red Cross, and other local NGOs and churches. Among the assistance provided are food, medical services, blankets, mattresses, toys for the children and sanitary material. Church services are also provided at the sites. The situation is currently stabilizing with few incidents being reported, among the recently reported incidents was the shooting of three individuals at Nhlapo Section in Katlehong on Friday, 6 September. All three injured individuals were admitted to hospital. Plans to reintegrate the affected foreign nationals into the areas from which they were displaced are already in place, as well as plans to document those who are undocumented. Those who wish to be repatriated to their countries of origin will be repatriated with the assistance of relevant government departments. Executive Mayor Cllr Mzwandile Masina visited the DH Williams site on 7 September to assess the situation and to assess the support the City is providing to the displaced persons. The following organisations, as well as other individuals, also donated to the cause to assist displaced persons: • • • • • •

Kidnapping is a reality In the wake of the two kidnappings which have made headlines over the last few days in Cape Town and Johannesburg, Fidelity ADT has issued a general alert to all residents. Parents have been urged to empower their children, teenagers and varsity-going young adults with all the information necessary to respond to any crisis or act of criminality. “As parents and guardians, it is our responsibility to not only educate our children about safety but to also give them the necessary tools to deal with a crisis. While we certainly don’t want to live in fear, we do need to have frank conversations about what to do when things go wrong,” explains Charnel Hattingh, National Communications and Marketing Manager at Fidelity ADT. There are simple actions, she says, which can often keep a child or young adult safe. Teach your kids: •They must always walk to or from school with a friend or friends. Stick to streets they know and never take short cuts through quiet areas or empty parking

lots and never walk with cell phones and iPads in full view. •If they get picked up at school, they should never leave the premises but always wait inside the school grounds for their lift to arrive. • Younger children particularly must never get into a stranger’s car; even if the stranger claims that someone they love is hurt and that they have been sent to pick them up. Remind them that you would never send someone they don’t know to fetch them. • Consider using a password system. If the person coming to collect you from school cannot repeat the password you and your child agreed on, they should not get into the car but immediately ask for help. • If a stranger approaches your child, they should not talk to them no matter how friendly they may seem. If someone tries to grab them, they need to fight, kick and shout. “That very action may have saved the young student’s life in Johannesburg this week,” says Hattingh. • If your child does encounter any suspicious activity, encourage them to get

Twelve cash-in-transit suspects arrested

Security operatives were on hand to bust a gang of suspected cash-intransit robbers. On Wednesday, 4 September at about 10:15 Johannesburg Flying Squad, EMPD, National Tracking Team, and JMPD Police Officers conducted a joint operation and arrested 12 suspects and recovered six unlicensed firearms and three vehicles. It is alleged that the police officers received a tip-off from the National

Crime Intelligence Group about suspects that are on their way to commit a Cashin-transit (CIT) robbery. The suspects’ vehicles were spotted driving on Kliprivier N12 West and the Police Officers immediately pounced on them. Upon searching the suspects and their vehicles, six unlicensed 9mm pistols were found. More information to follow.

a good look and memorise their physical details and clothing, as well as the vehicle they are in. Listen for any names or other details that might help identify them later. • Make sure your children memorise their full names, address and phone number. Using a play phone, teach them when and how to dial 10111. If they are older they should have some emergency numbers programmed into their phone or consider having a safety App on their phone. Remind Students: • Older children should be reminded to keep their valuables out of sight at all times and not to use headphones because this will dampen their ability to sense their surroundings. “The more you cut your senses off the easier it is for someone to take you by surprise. Stay alert!” says Hattingh. •Alter their route: If they are walking home or to public transport they need to alter their route. “Even if it takes longer, always use a route that is well lit and populated with houses and other walkers instead of taking shortcuts through lessfriendly areas. If you feel threatened, you can at least knock on someone’s door for help if you’re walking through a familiar neighbourhood.” • If you are using a taxi service, ensure it is a bona fide service provider. • Be extra cautious to go and meet anyone who befriends you on social media. Always meet in a public space with 2 or 3 friends as backup. • Be cautious to be lured by people

offering you a job or modelling contract. Remember safety in numbers. “Quite simply, the same rules that apply to adults need to be instilled in children and young adults and if someone cannot be found, it is vital to report this to the authorities immediately,” concludes Hattingh.

SA mourns death of Chester Williams 10 September 2019

WILLIAMS WAS A UNIFYING FIGURE AND WILL BE REMEMBERED AS A HUMBLE CHAMPION.

Legendary 1995 World Cup-winning Springbok wing Chester Williams passed away on Friday at the age of 49. Williams was a unifying figure and will be remembered as a humble champion. It’s believed that Williams suffered a heart attack. The tragic news comes less than two months since the world rugby community was rocked by the news of James Small’s death. In total, Williams played 27 Tests

for the Springboks in a career that spanned from 1993 to 2000. He scored 14 tries. After his career came to an end, Williams began a highlypromising coaching career, and most recently served as head coach at the University of the Western Cape, with UWC going on to win the 2017 Varsity Shield under his leadership. He was also one of the few South Africans invited to carry the Olympic torch in 2004 on its way to Athens.

AHS completes thrilling MTB School Series The Gauteng South Spur Anatomic MTB School Series season has sadly come to an end – all four races were completed on four different tracks set up by the course designers to test the level of skills and endurance of the riders. It has been an exciting season with fast tracks and growing numbers of participating school MTB cyclists. The sport has become very popular amongst high schools and the training has become more intense as the abilities of the riders continue to improve year on year. The final race of the season for Gauteng South took place at St Stithian’s in Sandton on Saturday, 24 August. There were 603 entrants across the various categories that competed on the day. The laps consisted of an equal amount of inclines and declines with medium technicality. Laps were 5.2 kms in distance and the number of laps to be completed depended on the age category – sub juniors completed two laps while the junior men completed four laps. The fastest lap time recorded on the day was 13 minutes 26 seconds. The Gauteng South Dream Team was

announced at the end of the season prize giving on the day - the top three riders from each category was nominated and these are the bright, strong riders who will represent Gauteng South at the Finals. The High School Inter-schools Final wraps up the season in October at Bekker High School in Magaliesburg. About 400 riders from 60 schools from the different regions will compete against each other. At this event, schools go head-to-head, using team strategies to accumulate points. Thirteen members of the Alberton High MTB Team participated and did phenomenally well with their number of laps completed as well as their times. There were a few tumbles along the way with some scraps and broken bike parts but that is the sport – extreme fun and speed on dusty terrain… Alberton High and the team’s sponsors, IPOP Bassonia and Suzuki JHB South, would like to congratulate the team on a great season of racing and brilliant team building. Several of the team members have seeded within the top 50 riders of their categories and Alberton High School can be proud to have placed 23rd out of 57 Gauteng South schools.
