can often be found in a gallery or museum. She’s a proud Bey Hive member and loves cheesecake while binging on her favourite TV show, Big Bang Theory. Sasha mentioned this statement : “I would advise the president to tell people to embrace their story. And as I stand here, a survivor of sexual abuse, I want to say that today, together, we can take our power back,” said Sasha-Lee. Tunzi’s initial reaction to winning the crown was one of disbelief, but now reality has sunk in. Along with the coveted Miss SA title, she walks away with prizes worth R3m, including R1m in cash, a new Mercedes Benz, and a fully-furnished apartment in Sandton to live in for the year of her reign.
Zozibini Tunzi has been crowned as the latest Miss South Africa at a glitzy pageant final main event at Sun Arena on Women’s Day 9 August. Zozibini is a 25-year-old completing her BTech in PR from Cape Town. Her role models are her parents and Caster Semenya, whom she’d love to meet. Zozibini is a hard-core Marvel fan, was a Game of Thrones addict and enjoys eating out. Sixteen finalists started the evening with a shot at glory but that number soon became ten as the judges announced the top ten finalists. Miss South Africa top ten Chuma Matsaluka won the fan vote and was the first of the top ten to be announced. Chuma was joined in the top ten by Zozibini
Tunzi, Sasha-Lee Olivier, Kgothatso Dithebe, Daniella Wallace, Nompumelelo Maduna, Loren Leigh Jenneker, Eloise van der Westhuizen, Sibabalwe Gcilitshana and Errin Brits. Miss South Africa top five Zozibini, Sasha, Kgothatso, Eloise and Nompumelelo faced the judge’s questions before the final two were announced. Final two Sasha and Zozibini were the last two ladies left standing after the judges questions and faced the final question. Zozibini did well in her answer and won. Sasha-Lee Olivier is a 26-year-old, model from Alberton. Sasha-Lee is pursuing a double major in marketing and psychology at Wits. She enjoys fishing and is an art lover and

Women are indeed remarkable, precious and could be regarded as noble beings. above disappointments and setbacks. It is time to break those chains of captivity, preventing you from fulfilling your dreams. Women are not perfect but it is from these imperfections that women draw their strength. Women are phenomenal and resourceful beyond measure. A woman’s worth is not determined by the opinions of others. Nor is it determined by abusers or the friend or family member disregarding her value. Their worth is defined by their acts of giving, the way in which they care, the endless love in their hearts, and by the way they forgive… Women carry the weight and burdens of because they mask it so perfectly. When humiliated or degraded, they smile because they are strong. They smile because they are warriors knowing that they will be triumphant. Their worth is determined by God that says “I have given you power and authority” and “I love you and you’re mine”! The same God that proclaimed that women are more precious than jewels.

New Olifantsfontein fire station to reduce emergency response time
It is time that we women rise high
those around them. No one sees the pain
This is their worth !! So from me, Former Mrs Africa and Mrs Africa Globe 2018 I would just like to wish all you phenomenal women A HAPPY WOMEN’S DAY! May you own your throne and not stumble nor fall. My you know your worth always. Never undermine your God given power, put it to good use. Love, Peace and Joy
The community of Olifantsfointen, Clayville and Winnie Mandela will soon have a bigger and improved resourced fire station on their door steps. The City of Ekurhuleni is building a new Olifantsfontein Fire Station at 12 Axle Road to replace the old fire station built in the mid 1940’s in the same area. The areas that are served by the old fire station have grown substantially over the years, and the new developments include areas such as Winnie Mandela, Tswelopele and Clayville. This will affect the response time, and the more capacitated fire station will reduce the response time to be aligned to international benchmarks. The Olifantsfontein Fire Station will have five bays which will house five fire trucks and three ambulances, and a shift comprising 11 officials. The old fire station had bays for only two fire trucks and three ambulances. A welcome improvement indeed!! A helipad will also be constructed for emergency incidents that may need the service of a helicopter. The construction of the fire station is currently 54% complete with thirty six local labourers who are employed and twelve subcontractors providing their

own labour. The City has committed to build two fire stations every three years to reduce the response time to emergency situations. A sod-turning ceremony was held on 5 April 2019 for a new Klopper Fire Station, which will serve Elandsfontein, Isando and Jet Park, among other areas. Albertina Sisulu Corridor Fire Station in Kempton Park is also under construction, while Germiston Fire Station was opened on 4 October 2018. Executive Mayor Masina launched a new fleet of firefighting vehicles in October 2018, comprising of ambulances, water pumpers, water tankers, rescue pumper, hydraulic platform which reaches a height of 37 metres. The City recently added to these equipment, two other highly advanced tankers, one capable of carrying fire extinguishing foam for fires caused by flammable liquids. “We are ramping up our emergency services capacity to live up to our vision of being a developmental city that provides people-centred services, and creates a safer environment for our residents,” MMC for Community Safety Cllr FransMmoko said.

In true carnival style, there will be aerial stunts, fire acts, roaming clowns and stilt walkers, a carousel, face painters, candy floss and more. “Imagine dancing to Kurt Darren’s

The UN first celebrated International ‘Kaptein’ while trapeze artists fly at heart stopping heights above your head or tapping your feet to Jay, Gerhard Steyn and Adam Tas while the death defying motorcyclists risk life and limb to entertain you in the Globe of Death. “Watch as some of South Africa’s best love artists and your ringmaster Willem Botha team up with the most amazing circus acts and performers to bring you a one of

covers only 5% of their historical area. Wild lion populations are decreasing, but the number of lions bred in captivity is soaring, “There are about 3,000 wild lions living in national parks and reserves in South Africa, but between 8,000 and 10,000 lions living in captivity – that in itself raises red flags” says FOUR PAWS country director Fiona Miles. Often, these breeding facilities separate cubs from their mothers to hand rear them and habituate them to human interaction, before using animal interactions such as cub petting and walking with lions. Once the lions are considered too old for these activities, they are likely to be used for canned hunting or killed for their bones, which are used in traditional medicine.
The trade stimulates demand for lion bones and incentivises, illicit trade and poachers to target lions. There’s only one way to stop the trade in lions: By removing all involvement with industries supporting it. This includes activities such as lion petting and walking with lion interactions, which both local and international tourists often take part in without realising the disastrous consequences. “For far too long, these animals have been exploited and subject to severe animal cruelty. If you look at the most recent exposés regarding this industry, it’s clear that welfare considerations of these animals are completely disregarded. We hope that on this day, people will stand up against the abuse and join us in taking hands to shut these atrocities down,” Miles says. To this end, FOUR PAWS is calling on the public to commit to the Lion Longevity Oath and end all support of activities and interaction with captivate lions and raise awareness of lion trade and canned lion hunting. “The only way to end these atrocities is to end your support of the various elements associated with the industry! By taking the oath, you will have an impact by reducing the demand for, and number of lions bred in captivity for these industries,” explains Miles. The oath also stands as proof to the South African government that urgent change needs to be implemented.

Take a stand to save our lions
Lions in South Africa have never faced such intense animal welfare issues as they do today. This is why FOUR PAWS is urging the public to take a stand on this World Lion Day, by committing to bring an end to the industries which are causing intense suffering for the lions in South Africa. International World Lion Day is celebrated annually on the 10th of August with an aim of raising awareness on the status of lions and educating communities around the dire situation lion populations find themselves in. A draft study by the Conservation Research Unit at the University of Oxford estimates there are only around 22,500 wild lions left in Africa and their range

March be observed as the UN Day for women’s rights and world peace. Q3 – When was National Women’s Day first celebrated in South Africa? On 9 August 1956 the first Federation of South African Women (FSAW or FEDSAW) presented a petition against the carrying of passes by women to the Prime Minister, JG Strijdom at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.. They also sang a Freedom song at this event (You Strike a Woman, You Strike a Rock) 9 August 1995 The first official National Women’s Day in South Africa was celebrated on 9 August 1995. This was after the country had become a democratic country. The 9th of August was then also proclaimed a public holiday. Perhaps we could begin this special day by listening to songs dedicated to celebrating Women like Helen Reddy, the American singer’s song, “I am Woman I am Strong” which was way ahead of its time. It still stands out as one of the most modern dedicated songs to Women of all time* This special day is dedicated to all women
