I am humbled to be the new online editor for Tame Times. My goal going forward is to ensure laughter, entertainment, amazing music, fun recipes, some exercise ideas, helpful tips whilst being honest about our current situation. Unfortunately we are in this and we have to try and make the absolute best of a scary situation. All of us are in the same boat and I believe it is vital for our own mental health that we find beauty in every day. Yes this is not always possible as we are human beings with a variety of emotions but we can either be the ostrich with her head in the sand or we can be positive together. Now is the time to think out of the box. Now is the time to give a helping hand even if it is a funny meme that you share with a friend or a phone call. Now is the time for patience and love. Jealousy no longer plays a part, hatred is replaced with forgiveness. We need each other’s support to fight this disease and be a stronger nation, united as one. In spite of the lockdown there is still beauty to be found all around us. Our spirits can be lifted by small things like an iridescent bird or a colourful butterfly. As the poet Keats said, “A thing of beauty is a joy for ever”. This current pandemic doesn’t change that. Stay Safe, Stay at Home and remember to smile. Renate Potgieter

Skielik is alledaagse take tien keer meer intens. Wasgoed was. So wat doen ek? Ek maak ‘n plan. “Tieng-tiengelieng!” sing die wasgoedmasjien vir my. My 1.63m lyf gaan nooit by daai lyn bykom nie!

2020 Comrades Marathon postponed due to COVID-19

Athletics SA confirmed that with the lockdown in South Africa extended until the 30th of April, it had taken the decision to postpone the ultra marathon which was scheduled to be held on the 14th of June. ASA President Aleck Skhosana said that in compliance, the suspension of all athletics activities is therefore also extended. He said the Comrades Marathon was being postponed to a suitable date that will be determined between ASA, KZN Athletics and the Comrades Marathon Association as soon as conditions around the management of the virus allow such a move under guidance from Government. Comrades Marathon Association Chairperson Cheryl Winn said their position is that there is no priority greater than the health, safety and welfare of the runners, volunteers, supporters, stakeholders and the lives of fellow South Africans. She pledged the Association’s total cooperation and support for ASA towards restoring some sort of equilibrium to the sport of athletics in South Africa in the coming weeks and months.

Making face shields is such a commendable activity, but making 1000 masks is game-changing!
