Executive Headmaster Mr Warwick Taylor comments: “We are delighted with the results of each of our students from our small class of 43 this year. Achieving a 100% Degree Pass is significant, and will afford all the opportunity of proceeding with academic studies. I thank the teachers and parents who have supported, guided and taught them. The Matrics of 2018 have worked hard and achieved their personal best. We wish them God’s blessing as they pursue their careers of

choice.” Gerry Reynders is SAHETI’s top candidate, achieving the highest average (92%) and a full house of nine distinctions, six of which are A+ marks. No JOB or TENDER is for sale in the City of Ekurhuleni

“The City has been inundated with business who have been lured into a Join us for our tender scam to provide waste bins.” Job seekers and entrepreneurs who wish to do business with the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) are warned not to pay any person or employee money for jobs and tenders. The City pleads with the public to be vigilant of scammers selling non-existent municipal jobs, and tender documents, to unsuspecting jobseekers and businesspersons. The City has been inundated with businesses who have been lured into a tender scam to provide waste bins. These types of scams are common at this time of the year as unscrupulous elements want to achieve their money-making New Year’s resolutions quicker, and prey on equally disparate residents and businesspersons. The municipality is urging the public to be smart and not hand money out in desperation for employment. The City’s recruitment and procurement

processes are steeped in transparency and ethical principles. Therefore, the City’s processes are open, predictable and afford each prospective bidder a timely access to the same and accurate information. In terms of recruitment, the City advertises vacancies, shortlists candidates, interviews them and then appoints. There are no other short-cut processes that the scammers usually promise. The City migrated its recruitment process from a manual format to an online platform last year. As a result of this migration, the City is no longer accepting manual submissions of job applications at customer care centres and human resource offices. All applications are done online and vacancies in the City are advertised on the website (http://www.ekurhuleni.gov.za/vacancies). Request for quotations notices to tender are available on the City’s website www.ekurhuleni.gov.za

Reduction in Festive season road fatalities in Gauteng

Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, has welcomed the release of a preliminary 2018 Festive Season Road Safety report by Minister of Transport, Dr. Blade Nzimande, yesterday in Tshwane which indicates that Gauteng recorded a 19 percent decrease in road fatalities. The report covers the period from 1 December 2018 to 8 January 2019. The MEC has specifically noted Gauteng’s improvement in terms of road safety which is attributed to drivers and pedestrians obeying the rules of the road and the intensification of road safety operations and education programmes by law enforcement authorities. Nationwide, accidents recorded in the recent festive season total 1 286, unfortunately resulting in 1 612 fatalities. Gauteng recorded 208 road incidents and 219 fatalities. Importantly, Gauteng recorded a commendable 19 percent decrease in the number of road fatalities. During the festive season period, the law enforcement agencies had to contend with drunk, reckless and negligent driving behavior by some of the road users. In terms of the report, at least 36 percent of passengers died on the road during the festive season. This is an increase from 34 percent recorded last year and it reflects the number of high occupancy vehicles, particularly public transport in the form of minibus taxis that were involved in fatal crashes. Pedestrian fatalities have also shown a two percent (2%) decrease from 37 percent last year to 35 percent this year while driver fatalities remained at 27 percent and cyclist at two percent. The MEC has noted the intensified Road Safety strategy is yielding positive results in reducing road crashes and fatalities. “Our road safety efforts and practices continue to be bear desirable results as

depicted by the festive season report by Minister Nzimande. While Gauteng recorded a commendable 19 percent decrease in the number of road fatalities, we acknowledge that more work still needs to be done to reduce the fatalities to acceptable levels,” said MEC NkosiMalobane. Excessive speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol have been found to be the biggest contributing factors to accidents. Other factors such as unroadworthy vehicles, fatigue, unnecessary overtaking and passenger overloading also contribute to carnage on our roads. “Following the announcement by Minister Nzimande on clamping down on corruption at driving licence and testing centres (DLTC), I have instructed the police to conduct a detailed investigation in each of the driving licence and testing centres especially in Boksburg and Johannesburg where most Gauteng residents were involved in these major crashes during the festive season obtained their licences,” he continued. The MEC informed taxis and busses that they will be under the spotlight most accidents were caused by public transport operators. He issued a directive to the law enforcement authorities to continue conducting regular mobile testing operations focusing particularly on public transport. “As Gauteng government, we will intensify the road safety education programmes in reducing road crashes on our roads. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who lost their loved ones during the festive season and wish those who are injured a speedy recovery. Lastly, we urge all drivers to continue to exercise caution on the roads in order to save the lives of passengers and avoid further road crashes and fatalities,“ concluded MEC NkosiMalobane.

With Toyota giving us their 5th generation offering, it will be a name on everyone’s lips for some time to come. Beneath the bonnet there is a straight six, 3.0 litre turbo charged powertrain

Set about to challenge the very popular BMW M2 and Porsche Cayman GT4, I think this will be fair competition with prices estimated to
