CITY COMPLETES MIGRATION TO BIGGER REFUSE COLLECTION BINS The City of Ekurhuleni has completed the migration from using small l waste bins to bigger 240l wheelie bins. The 240 wheelie bins have been distributed residents and remain available at all the City’s waste management depots for residents who have not collected theirs yet. Effective from 1 July 2019, no waste will be collected if it is not contained in a City-branded 240L wheelie bin. The City’s fleet of refuse trucks are fitted with an automated mechanism to pick up the bins and pour the refuse into the compactor.
The City is therefore urging all residents who missed the mass roll out to collect their wheelie bins from the waste management depots closest to them between Monday and Friday from 8h00 to 15h30. Residents must ensure that they take a Copy of their ID and municipal account to the depot to collect the waste bin. The bin is issued for free, while the refuse collection is charged R162.24 per month for each bin. Residents who are in need of more than one bin may apply for such a bin, at an additional charge. Residents who use the bins are urged to
place them outside their homes at 7:00 on calendar days provided by the City.
There are various advantages from using the 240L wheelie bins, which include the following: •Provides more storage capacity than the refuse bin used previously. •Have a longer lifespan than a bag (approxi mately 8 years). •Minimizes tearing of bags by rodents and stray dogs, and infestation of rodents •Durable to utilize and easy to clean. •Easy to handle with low risk of being exposed to sharp objects •Does not generate water vapour and is made of pest repellent material. •Avoid continuous acquisition of plastic bags thus saving air space. •Promotes uniform service standards and cleanliness of the city.

South African comedy sensation Sifiso Nene is doing it again. He is back by popular demand at Carnival City with his Comedy Combo Show on 25 May 2019. This winter edition of Comedy Combo features performances by local comedy greats such as TolA$$Mo, Joey Rasdien, Thenjiwe Moseley and Tumi Stopnonsons, Simphiwe Shembe, Mdu Ntuli and Thabang ER. They will convene at Carnival City’s Big Top Arena for an evening of monster size comedy to ward off the winter chill. The show will start at 20h00. Nene comments, “In the last show, we realised how easy it was to tell stories that bridged people’s life experiences. We are all survivors of something and it takes a light hearted person to make you realise that life is worth laughing at. We are those light hearted people. If you can’t laugh at yourself then laugh at us. I hope people will enjoy the show again, but firstly I hope they buy the tickets.” Tickets range in price from R200 and are available now at Computicket. Four killed in N1 accident
happened on the highway between Grasmere toll plaza and the N12.
“Someone who passed by noticed the body of a man in Main Reef Road and another body on the N12. These bodies had visible injuries on their upper body and their heads,” By: CHULUMANCO MAHAMBA (The Star Reports) The dead bodies of two men, suspected to be illegal miners, were found on the side of two roads in Ekurhuleni on Monday morning, 13 May. The bodies had open wounds and it’s not known if the men were assaulted. Provincial police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele said one body was spotted on Main Reef Road on New Modder, Benoni and another along the N12. The bodies of the two men were found in the vicinity of an abandoned mine shaft which illegal miners were mining illegally. “Someone who passed by noticed the body of a man in Main Reef Road and another body on the N12. These bodies had visible injuries on their upper body and their heads,” said Makhubela. Makhubele added that the motive of the incidents was unknown. He also said it was not known whether the men were killed where the bodies were found and

that police were investigating a case of murder. He said police were calling for anyone who has information on the incidents to assist with the investigation. The discovery is just another one of the many incidents of the discoveries of illegal miners bodies found not far from abandoned mine shafts. In January last year seven rotting bodies of illegal miners were found near a mine dump in Benoni. A passer-by had stumbled upon the decomposing bodies, which were riddled with bullet holes. A few months later in September, five decomposed bodies were found near an old mine in Boksburg. It was believed at the time that the bodies had been brought out from the old mine and dumped next to the squatter camp where they were found.

FIVE KEY PLAYERS BEHIND BARCELONA’S 2018/19 LALIGA SANTANDER TITLE Barcelona were under the confetti once again, after clinching the 2018/19 LaLiga Santander title. As is necessary when it comes to a long season, different players have stepped up at different times in both defence and attack to propel the Blaugrana to an eighth title in just 11 years. Here are five of Ernesto Valverde’s most important men this season. LIONEL MESSI Of course, Messi leads the list. As captain of the team and the man who will almost certainly finish the season as the top scorer in LaLiga Santander – earning him a sixth Pichichi trophy to equal Telmo Zarra’s record – Messi has been absolutely outstanding in 2018/19. As a generator of attacking play and a finisher as well, he was a nightmare for defences across the league this season, just as he has been for over a decade. GERARD PIQUÉ This may have been Piqué’s best ever season. The centre-back has reached a new level of consistency in his defensive play and has been the team’s gatekeeper at the back. Pique also deserves credit for the way he helped summer signing Clement Lenglet settle into the team after his usual central defensive partner Samuel Umtiti went down with a knee
injury before Christmas. By playing every single minute of the first 29 matchdays, something no other outfielder in the division managed to do, the 32-yearold has demonstrated that his reliability is beyond doubt. ARTURO VIDAL Vidal has never been a consistent starter for the team, but the summer signing from Bayern Munich has been used at some point in almost every game and proven himself as an important option for Valverde to turn to. Often coming off the bench in the second halves of matches to help the team close out a win, the Chilean deserves credit for doing much of the dirty work that goes into a title victory. Incredibly, he’ll be collecting a league winner’s medal for the eighth consecutive season, having previously won four in a row in Italy and three in a row in Germany. LUIS SUÁREZ Messi’s out-of-this-world goal tallies often overshadow the fact that Suárez also posts incredible goalscoring numbers. He’s in with a chance of finishing this season as the second-top scorer in LaLiga Santander behind his Argentine teammate. As well as his goals, Suárez’s off-the-ball work has also been vital as he often frees up space for Messi by

dragging defenders out of position. The Uruguayan directly assists the No.10 too and no other player in the squad has set up more goals for the captain this season than Suárez has. MARC-ANDRÉ TER STEGEN The Barcelona goalkeeper deserves his fair share of credit. He may not be in line to win the Zamora Award for the goalkeeper with the best goals conceded statistics, but the eye test has shown

that ter Stegen has been as good as ever in 2018/19. Not only has the German pulled off some truly spectacular saves over the course of the campaign, but his ability to remain calm under pressure and to pass the ball out from the back with confidence is essential to the way Barcelona want to play. Alongside Atletico de Madrid’s Jan Oblak, ter Stegen is a serious candidate for the title of best goalkeeper in the world right now.
