Official Opening Ceremony “Is this school for Curro Edenvale going to be ready?”

Curro Edenvale’s Official Opening Ceremony was held on Thursday, 4 April. The school opened its doors for the first time to just over 180 learners in January this year and is now sitting with plus minus 220 eager learners on seats. Parents, Curro Group CEO Andries Greyling, General Manager Willem Brümmer, Edenvale ward councilors Cllr. Heather Hart and Cllr. Tiziana Plaskitt as well as various stakeholders within the Curro Family attended the red-carpet event. Guest of honour Mr Greyling cut the ribbon while Mr Brümmer unveiled and read the plaque. Executive Head of the school André van Wyk was appointed in May last year. He gave an emotional speech detailing his journey with the school thus far. “In May 2018 I was shown a bare piece of ground with a few tractors pushing soil around and some pipes being laid. My immediate question was, ‘Is this school going to be ready?’,” he joked. Mr van Wyk, detailed events that have taken place thus far since the opening of

the school and thanked all staff members who have played a critical role in ensuring that the school runs like a well-oiled machine. It has only been three months into the year and yet learners took the spotlight and outdid themselves with their beautifully prepared items of song and dance. Mr Greyiling gave his guest of honour address, equipping both parents and learners with knowledge on how to make a success of the learners schooling career. On 22 February and 10 April, Amy presented a prepared speech of approximately 5 minutes on a topic of her own choice and thereafter had to deliver a 3 minute impromptu speech in 10 minutes. This requires tremendous skill and public speaking prowess. This was the 58th annual public speaking festival organised by the Speech & Drama College (SA). There were approximately 64 entrants in the individual speaker competition; only 5 speakers were selected for the finals.

Sinead Meyer ranked first World Cup cricketer and place for long jump her child passes away
Holy Rosary High School Grade 10 pupil, Sinead Meyer, made the Gauteng Athletics Club team for long jump, where she won gold.
She went on to represent Gauteng at the National Athletics Club Championships in Paarl. Here she competed in the U 17 girls age group but is ranked number 1 in the U16 age group.
Former South Africa Women’s World Cup cricketer Elriesa Theunissen-Fourie and her child were killed in a car crash this weekend, police confirmed on Sunday, 7 April. tame TIMES understands that the accident occurred in the northwestern mining town of Stilfontein, a police spokesman confirmed. All-rounder Theunissen-Fourie, 25, represented South Africa in four internationals - three ODIs and one Twenty20 - and was part of the 2013 World Cup squad. “This is a dreadful tragedy in the true sense of that word,” said Cricket South Africa (CSA) chief executive Thabang Moroe. “This is devastating news for all of us. “Elriesa did so much for the community in which she lived and gave excellent service both as a national player and in the work she did at grassroots level. “On behalf of the CSA family, I extend our deepest sympathy to her husband, her family, friends and all her cricketing colleagues.
Tatum De Oliveira achieves BIG Congratulations to Curro Edenvale’ grade 6 learner Tatum De Oliveira (12) for obtaining a double gold medal in Trampoline and Double Mini Trampoline at the recently held Trampoline and Tumbling International SA Cup Competition. She also walked away as the winner of the SA Cup. De Oliveira is a member of the Masters Gymnasts Club in Edenvale.
