Theatre lovers are in for a special treat as Nataniël, talented South African muso and performer extraordinaire makes his way to Emperors Palace to perform his latest enthralling creation, When Giants Waltz. Nataniël’s 17th production will be presented as 12 unforgettable concerts from 4 to 27 October 2019 at the Theatre of Marcellus.

Always fantastical, funny and unpredictable, Nataniël will share the stage with a talented and well-known cast of local artists, including Charl du Plessis on the keyboard, Juan Oosthuizen on guitar, Brendan Ross on keyboards, saxophone and vocals, Werner Spies on bass, Peter Auret on the drums, and Dihan Slabbert and Nicolaas Swart on vocals.

Aficionados can look forward to a spectacular production complete with his trademark stylistic lighting and jawdropping wardrobe selections, carefully crafted to complement the incredible stories that he shares in both English and Afrikaans. Expect moving and fascinating insights into Nataniël’s unique perspective on the world as he boldly explores the state of the world, from his personal life to politics and everything in between. Nataniël will delve into the age-old phenomenon of the big versus the small, the ever-present struggle between the indestructible and the threatened, the constant war between the individual and the establishment, and the tiring debate between the political and the intelligent.

Best known for his outspoken and bravely controversial performances – both on stage and off – Nataniël first appeared on the local entertainment scene in 1987, and has since built a wildly successful career as a singer, songwriter and storyteller. He authors a popular column in SARIE Magazine called Kaalkop, which has been running for 17 years, and is also an accomplished producer, director, designer, and public speaker.

“It gives us immense pride to welcome this legendary South African performer back to Emperors Palace – the home of local entertainment,” says Irvin Nkosi, the resort’s Promotions and Entertainment Manager. “From his beautiful blues and jazz numbers to his sensational costumes designed by the awardwinning Floris Louw, this is one show that should not to be missed!”

Tickets for When Giants Waltz start from R160 per person and can be booked through the Emperors Palace Box Office on 011 928 1213/1297 or through Computicket. Winners Circle cardholders qualify for fantastic discounts. Show and dinner packages are also available. Friday and Saturday night shows will start at 20h00, whereas the Sunday matinee shows will start at 15h00. Regretfully no children under the age of 15 will be permitted. Nataniël’s official memorabilia, including his CDs, DVDs, books, ceramics and other products from his lifestyle range will be available for purchase at all performances.

DISPLACED FOREIGN NATIONALS REPATRIATED TO THEIR COUNTRIES OF ORIGIN

Zimbabwean and Mozambican nationals, who were housed at the two shelters set up by the City of Ekurhuleni in Katlehong, were repatriated to their countries of origin last week after the brutal xenophobic attacks the week before. A total of 221 people left South Africa: Ninety-six (96) Zimbabwean nationals left Tsholo Hall in Katlehong in two buses, while 125 Mozambique nationals left in three buses from DH Williams Hall, also situated in Katlehong. The mortal remains of Mr Isaac Sithole from Zimbabwe who lost his life during the attacks at Mandela Park informal settlement in Katlehong were also repatriated. Ekurhuleni Speaker of Council, Cllr Alderman Patricia Kumalo officiated over a prayer service to send Sithole home, and led the procession that went to Mandela informal settlement where Sithole died for his family to perform cultural rituals. During prayer service, Speaker of Council Cllr Kumalo urged residents of Ekurhuleni to denounce attacks on foreign nationals. She also said that the City will continue to

work with the relevant departments, embassies and consulates of different countries to curb the attacks. The Zimbabwean nationals, comprising of 113 adults and 23 children, were ferried in three buses. All children that left the centres were with their parents. The City worked with the concerned embassies, consulate offices, as well as Department of Home Affairs for documentation of the undocumented and those who lost their immigration documents during the attacks. The City, in addition to providing humanitarian services to the displaced, worked in collaboration with NGOs, faith-based organizations and relevant government departments to ensure safe repatriation of the displaced persons who wished to return to their counties of origin. The respective consulates carried the costs for repatriation. Those foreign nationals who remain will be reintegrated into local communities after the necessary consultations are done with affected communities.
