“This man has taken advantage of young girls in the school and as community leaders we demanded for his immediate suspension after we received the information.”

The principal of Daveyton High School has been suspended with immediate effect after it came to light that he had allegedly impregnated two of the pupils in the school. Gauteng education spokesperson Steve Mabona confirmed the principal’s suspension to News24 on Friday, 5 April. Mabona said a delegation from the Gauteng education department, which included MEC Panyaza Lesufi, visited the school

on Thursday and served the suspension notice on the principal. “We will be offering counselling and support to the girls along with their parents,” Mabona said. “Our investigation is continuing.” Mabona said the allegations were reported to the department shortly before schools closed for holidays after the first term. “That made it difficult for us to investi-

gate and affected the process of gaining information. “But since the schools reopened, we acted as soon as we could,” he said. Mabona said any form of assault, sexual or otherwise, would not be tolerated at schools. “The MEC has been clear that the safety of our pupils is always a top priority,” Mabona said. EFF members, who had been picketing

outside the school, cheered as the police escorted the principal out of school premises, Sowetan reported. EFF spokesperson Sipho Watkins reportedly said: “This man has taken advantage of young girls in the school and as community leaders we demanded for his immediate suspension after we received the information.”

The Easter weekend is upon us, a time where families spend time together for the holiday break. This is one of the busiest times for families in South Africa. Easter is an important event on the religious and Western calendar. After Christmas, it’s the tradition that most people in the world celebrate. It is a time for religious commemorations as well as a celebration rooted in cultural traditions, but regardless of its meaning, the backdrop is families reuniting. Families use the occasion to get together to share their customs or pass their religious beliefs on to younger generations. tame TIMES encourages each and every reader to send their opinion about what you think Easter symbolizes. Send your opinion piece to Garin.Joemath@tameTIMES.co.za We are looking forward to hearing back from you!

Celebrates 10 years this month

It is no April fools joke, tame TIMES has survived 10 of the most turbulent years in the Media industry. Digitalization has been taking its toll with Google and Facebook the only winners in the advertising income space. We have seen huge publications fade away. With every release of ABC auditing figures it is clear that the circulation of popular mainstream newspapers are decreasing. tame however, is still going strong. Our sister publication, Taxi Times, is growing faster than any other newspaper in South Africa. Our team may be small, but we are dynamite!!
