Alberton Street Store making a difference to those in need shopping experience, that they feel fortunate and look forward to the next Street Store. Geraldine Jacobs, Head of Charity and Welfare at Doxa Deo Church in Meyersdal, said that she has seen God move and thanks everyone for contributing and making this a successful Street Store. The Street Store objective is to uplift those in need in our community. As a marketplace to sell pre-loved clothing they also have access to many people also wanting to donate items and not just sell them. tame TIMES has seen smiles all day by shoppers and residents who were part of this wonderful initiative.
The first Street Store in Alberton was a massive success as 1088 poor and homeless residents of Alberton experienced a tremendous shopping experience on Saturday, 18 May at the Alberton Dam. tame TIMES was part of the day and experienced this innovative concept. The Street Store is the world’s first rentfree, premises-free, pop-up charity store, where the poor and homeless residents of the community shop for free. Free shop-

Uniting Dads and Daughters at Bodies of illegal miners dumped Assumption Convent School by the roadside in Benoni “Someone who passed by noticed the body of a man in Main Reef Road and another body on the N12. These bodies had visible injuries on their upper body and their heads,”
On Saturday, 11 May, Assumption Convent School in Germiston hosted a “Dads and Daughters Day”. The objective of the day was to enhance the relationship between each of the fathers and their daughters. It was great success and thoroughly enjoyed by all. The day began with fun and teambuilding. The dads and their girls were divided into teams and each Dad-Daughter pair had to select a game to participate in. The indoor games included a Father –Daughter Quiz, and the outdoor games ranged from hula-hoop competitions to water balloon throwing, to three-legged races. There was much laughter, excitement and plenty of inter-team banter! The dads and daughters were then split up and each given a talk. The fathers were address by Christo te Brake who stressed
the importance of the role of the father in their daughters’ lives and he shared some ideas and experiences of what it takes to be a good dad in the challenging society globally and in the country today. The daughters were given a talk by Stacey Hopebailie on respect and given some practical ideas of how to show love in everyday life. After the talks, the dads and daughter had private dialogues with each other and then were led in a special prayer and were reminded about how important praying together is to improve their bonds. The day was concluded with prego rolls and socializing. All who attended the day felt that is was an extremely beneficial day and that they grew in their relationships as a dad/daughter.
The dead bodies of two men, suspected to be illegal miners, were found on the side of two roads in Ekurhuleni on Monday morning, 13 May. The bodies had open wounds and it’s not known if the men were assaulted. Provincial police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele said one body was spotted on Main Reef Road on New Modder, Benoni and another along the N12. The bodies of the two men were found in the vicinity of an abandoned mine shaft which illegal miners were mining illegally. “Someone who passed by noticed the body of a man in Main Reef Road and another body on the N12. These bodies had visible injuries on their upper body and their heads,” said Makhubela. Makhubele added that the motive of the incidents was unknown. He also said it was not known whether the men were killed where the bodies were found and that police were investigating a case of murder. He said police were calling for anyone who has information on the incidents to assist with the investigation. The discovery is just another one of the many incidents of the discoveries of illegal miners bodies found not far from
abandoned mine shafts. In January last year seven rotting bodies of illegal miners were found near a mine dump in Benoni. A passer-by had stumbled upon the decomposing bodies, which were riddled with bullet holes. A few months later in September, five decomposed bodies were found near an old mine in Boksburg. It was believed at the time that the bodies had been brought out from the old mine and dumped next to the squatter camp where they were found. By: CHULUMANCO MAHAMBA (The Star Reports)

World Best under threat at 5th annual FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN
The time of 33:27 – run by Kenyan Morris Gachaga on his way to victory at the 2017 FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN – will be under threat on Sunday, 19 May 2019. It was a course record and also the fastest ever time run over 12km. The 5th edition of the race will take place this coming Sunday, and event organizers have pulled together arguably the best ever field yet assembled. Not only are South Africa’s leading road runners, Stephen Mokoka and Elroy Gelant coming into close to their best shape ever, but a stellar field of international athletes has also been invited once again. “It is the FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN’s 5th anniversary and this year we can proudly boat with the Bronze Label
status,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director Stillwater Sports. “What better way to add to the excitement than to assemble a really competitive field with some exceptionally fast runners.” In addition to Mokoka and Gelant, the field boasts the likes of two time defending Champion and course record holder, Morris Gachaga who is back, looking to secure a hat trick of wins. Joining them will be young Kenyan sensation, Rhonzas Kilimo, Moses Koech, John Langat, Abdallah Mande from Uganda and Ethiopia’s Betesfa Getahun. This exceptional field includes five athletes who have dipped under 28 minutes for the 10km. Mokoka’s 27:38 from 2015 is the SA Record. Moses Koech has gone 27:46, Kilimo 27:57, Langat 27:58 and Getahun 27:39 which he ran
in Valencia earlier this year. Incredibly Gachaga has yet to post a time under 28 minutes, despite being the fastest half marathoner in the field with his 59:22 run in February this year. Gelant has, with only base training, run 61:57 for the half marathon in April this year and won the recent Two Oceans Half Marathon in a new course record time of 63:20 on arguably one of the tougher half marathon routes in the country. His ambition for 2019 is to break 60 minutes for the Half Marathon, and based on what he has produced thus far, that is a very real possibility. The FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN would be the perfect place and opportunity to stamp his authority on some of the world’s best athletes. The 2019 edition of the FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN will be brutally fast with the promise of not only a new Course Record, but also a World Best, the current set by Gachaga in 2017. The diminutive Kenyan will be hard pressed to claim his third consecutive win though. “I’m in good shape, really good shape. Elroy (Gelant) is also running well. I know I am in low 33 (minute) shape,” said Mokoka. “And with the guys coming out, I can guarantee it will be a fast race.” The women’s race also promises to be one of the most competitive in years.
Leading the South African charge will be an inform Kesa Molotsane who recently ran her second fastest 10km time ever, clocking 33:08 on 4 May. Molotsane boasts a best of 32:56 for the 10km and will look to improve on her third place from 2018. Also in the mix is Irvette van Zyl who is making 2019 all about running fast. Van Zyl came dreadfully close to breaking 32 min in October 2018 when she placed third in the FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN, crossing the line in 32:06. Earlier this year, she made her Ultra debut at the Two Oceans Marathon and placed third. Van Zyl is a hard racer and flourishes when racing against strong opposition which makes Sunday’s race the perfect platform for her. The foreign contingent is littered with talent. Back again is Stella Chesang, the 10 000m Commonwealth Games Champion from 2018. She finished second at the FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN in 2018, but had not yet fully recovered from the Games in April. In 2019 she is on fresh legs and is aiming for the top rung of the podium. “My last race was the World Cross Country Championships in Aarhus, Denmark in March. Since then I have been preparing for this race, I want to go one better than 2018, and that means a win,” said Chesang.
FIVE KEY PLAYERS BEHIND BARCELONA’S 2018/19 LALIGA SANTANDER TITLE Barcelona were under the confetti once again, after clinching the 2018/19 LaLiga Santander title. As is necessary when it comes to a long season, different players have stepped up at different times in both defence and attack to propel the Blaugrana to an eighth title in just 11 years. Here are five of Ernesto Valverde’s most important men this season. LIONEL MESSI Of course, Messi leads the list. As captain of the team and the man who will almost certainly finish the season as the top scorer in LaLiga Santander – earning him a sixth Pichichi trophy to equal Telmo Zarra’s record – Messi has been absolutely outstanding in 2018/19. As a generator of attacking play and a finisher as well, he was a nightmare for defences across the league this season, just as he has been for over a decade. GERARD PIQUÉ This may have been Piqué’s best ever season. The centre-back has reached a new level of consistency in his defensive play and has been the team’s gatekeeper at the back. Pique also deserves credit for the way he helped summer signing Clement Lenglet settle into the team after his usual central defensive partner Samuel Umtiti went down with a knee injury be-
fore Christmas. By playing every single minute of the first 29 matchdays, something no other outfielder in the division managed to do, the 32-year-old has demonstrated that his reliability is beyond doubt. ARTURO VIDAL Vidal has never been a consistent starter for the team, but the summer signing from Bayern Munich has been used at some point in almost every game and proven himself as an important option for Valverde to turn to. Often coming off the bench in the second halves of matches to help the team close out a win, the Chilean deserves credit for doing much of the dirty work that goes into a title victory. Incredibly, he’ll be collecting a league winner’s medal for the eighth consecutive season, having previously won four in a row in Italy and three in a row in Germany. LUIS SUÁREZ Messi’s out-of-this-world goal tallies often overshadow the fact that Suárez also posts incredible goalscoring numbers. He’s in with a chance of finishing this season as the second-top scorer in LaLiga Santander behind his Argentine teammate. As well as his goals, Suárez’s off-the-ball work has also been vital as he often frees up space for Messi by
dragging defenders out of position. The Uruguayan directly assists the No.10 too and no other player in the squad has set up more goals for the captain this season than Suárez has. MARC-ANDRÉ TER STEGEN The Barcelona goalkeeper deserves his fair share of credit. He may not be in line to win the Zamora Award for the goalkeeper with the best goals conceded statistics, but the eye test has shown that
ter Stegen has been as good as ever in 2018/19. Not only has the German pulled off some truly spectacular saves over the course of the campaign, but his ability to remain calm under pressure and to pass the ball out from the back with confidence is essential to the way Barcelona want to play. Alongside Atletico de Madrid’s Jan Oblak, ter Stegen is a serious candidate for the title of best goalkeeper in the world right now
