#Womencan revolution #WOMENCAN IS A NETWORKING EVENT
FOR WOMEN WHICH AIMS TO SUPPORT AND INSPIRE THE ATTENDEES. GARIN JOEMATH garin.joemath@tametimes.co.za
Lizz Meiring will be part of hosting the #WomenCan event South Africa commemorates Women’s Month in August as a tribute to the thousands of women who marched to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956 in protest against the extension of Pass Laws to women. Women have come a long way since then and legislation and our culture have evolved to provide for equal opportunities between sexes. tame TIMES Community Newspaper, GBS Digital, Taxi Times, ABSA bank, Coleman Properties and Alberton&Johannesburg South Business Forum would like to keep this movement alive with their first Annual #WomenCan event which is meant to inspire and empower women
in business. “Women can achieve anything,” says Editor of tame TIMES, Garin Joemath. We also proudly announce that Lizz Meiring will be part of hosting the event. Lizz is a South African actress, screenwriter, playwright, producer, director and performance director known for her extensive body of work in television, film and theatre. #WomenCan is a networking event for women which aims to support and inspire the attendees. After the event workshops will be presented that will assist the attendees in building sustainable businesses by gaining the necessary skills. We reached out to a couple of successful women in Alberton who were lyrical about the potential that lie within all women and urged all the strong females to start believing in themselves this Women’s Month.

Women’s Day Surprise at BE PART OF THE Zelda van Coller Optometrists
#Womencan revolution
Elena Sewraj, winner of the Women’s Day Polaroid sunglasses at the Zelda van Coller Optometrists practice in Brackenhurst, Alberton
Zelda van Coller Optometrists celebrated the week leading up to Women’s Day with balloons full of surprises and gave women the chance to win various gifts. Balloon vouchers included chocolates, GUESS shopping bags, Polaroid t-shirts, hot chocolate sticks and finally, one lucky winner walked away with a pair of Polaroid sunglasses. All women who entered the
practice during the week leading up to 9 August had the chance to pop a balloon to stand a chance to win. “We believe that women should be celebrated. What the world needs is women who are strong, kind, loving and brave.” Congratulations to Elena Sewraj who won the Polaroid sunglasses in our lucky draw in celebration of Women’s Day.

They call us crazy when we fight for what we believe. They dismiss our ideas and call it luck when we succeed. But we are women. We are smart, brave, creative, loving, powerful, beautiful and so much more than anyone can ever describe. We are grateful to the women who fought for us, who fought for our future and enabled us to be who and where we are today. We are daughters, sisters, mothers and friends. We raise our children to know that they can accomplish anything they put their minds to, that they are strong and capable of achieving great things. We are

Every child develops her own voice because of inspirational women that encourage them to speak up. Women that encourage them to pursue their passion and trample every obstacle in their path. As children embark on the journey towards adulthood they are often influenced by several factors they have no control over. However strong bonds and attachments remain to guide them towards living a fulfilled and engaged life.

need of protection and orphans. Eight childcare workers are employed to care for and look after these traumatized children. They are in need of children’s clothing from hats to shoes as well as non-perishable foods and toiletries. Any second hand sports equipment or school supplies will be much appreciated. The housing is basic but very well looked after and clean. Recently four extra outdoor jungle gym swing sets were installed on the property much to the delighted squeals of the children. Any assistance or sponsors with pretty much anything will go a long way in making these children’s lives a little bit easier as every little bit helps. Ladies with disabilities inspired to take a swing
ers, Ernst Conradie and Charlene Pienaar. One of the First Swing Program’s talented young players, Ignation Douries, was also there to talk about how playing golf has helped him shift his mindset, improve his physical wellbeing, and most importantly believe in himself. Sponsoring the First Swing Program gives Canon SA the opportunity to support three passions that are close to its heart; children, local sport and people with disabilities. “Playing golf has shown to have exceptional physical and emotional benefits for people with disabilities. During our association with SADGA, we have seen firsthand the positive impact of the program on the rehabilitation and psychological development of people with disabilities.
Twelve ladies with varying disabilities - who are part of the Beyond Ability Talent Solutions mentorship program - had the opportunity to take a swing at golf with coaches from the South
African Disabled Golf Association’s First Swing Program at a special event held on Women’s Day (9 August). Spirits ran high at the Killarney Country Club as the ladies, all of whom had
never tried to play golf before, received tips and encouragement from coaches, Prince Modiba and Barend Knoetze, as well as two disabled golfers, Jodi Schultz and Curtley Roberts and two blind golf-
“We loved seeing the ladies being so open to learning and getting stuck in. The smiles on their faces said it all. We are delighted that we were able to help make this event possible,” says Dana Eitzen, Corporate and Marketing Communications Executive from Canon SA which also sponsors the South Africa Disabled Golf Open that attracts some of the world’s best golfers with disabilities from around the world. This year, two women competed in the Canon South Africa Disabled Golf Open, including Charlene Pienaar who was the only blind lady golfer in the tournament.
Rassie: It’s nice to learn when you’re winning
Rassie Erasmus breathed a sigh of relief and confirmed that his 2019 Springbok squad continued on a trajectory of progress following a 24-18 victory over Argentina at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Saturday. Sbu Nkosi scored both the Boks’
tries, while Elton Jantjies kicked five from six as he contributed a conversion and four penalty goals. Erasmus, the director of rugby at SA Rugby, admitted that the result was a case of winning ugly, but that the game had gone pret-
ty much to expectations. “All week, I knew it was going to be a grind and that it wasn’t going to be a free-flowing game,” he said. Argentina could have beaten New Zealand this season with that maul at the end, and they lost to Australia by six and they could have won that game as well, and I knew they were going to come for us. “They were very well prepared and played so well and if they had won I would have been sitting here saying they deserved to win. I wouldn’t have moaned if they had – they played really well. “But it’s nice to learn when you’re winning. We had some things confirmed and learnt other things about combinations. “We did some good things and some bad things. The bad things were giving away stupid penalties and the intercept pass – not that it was Cobus Reinach’s or one person’s fault – and letting them off the hook at times. “But we ground it out and I was pleased with the last 15 minutes and the way we finished.”
