Street Store making a difference to those in need The first Street Store in Alberton was a massive success as 1088 poor and homeless residents of Alberton experienced a tremendous shopping experience on Saturday, 18 May at the Alberton Dam. tame TIMES was part of the day and experienced this innovative concept. The Street Store is the world’s first rentfree, premises-free, pop-up charity store, where the poor and homeless residents of the community shop for free. Free shopping items such as shirts, pants, shoes, jerseys and other clothing was available and food was also served. Organizations around Alberton such as churches, schools and businesses stood together to support this venture. During the day more than a thousand homeless and poor came to choose clothing outfits and shoes that they desired. tame TIMES spoke to a few of the shoppers who said that this is like a Christmas shopping experience, that they feel fortunate and look forward to the next Street Store. Geraldine Jacobs, Head of Charity and Welfare at Doxa Deo Church in Meyersdal, said that she has seen God move and thanks everyone for contributing and

making this a successful Street Store. The Street Store objective is to uplift those in need in our community. As a marketplace to sell pre-loved clothing they also have access to many people also wanting to donate items and not just sell them. tame TIMES has seen smiles all day by shoppers and residents who were part of this wonderful initiative.
Police have confirmed they are aware of the video showing armed men committing robbery in broad daylight on a busy highway in Johannesburg, but could not provide more details. The incident is believed to have taken place at the Xavier Road off-ramp from the N12. It was captured on video, which has gone viral on social media. According to social media users, the incident took place at around 2pm on Monday, although this could not be confirmed. In the video, two unidentified men are seen preying on what appears to be a white Toyota Fortuner. The men can be seen running off, carrying goods taken from the vehicle. The men are then seen running towards a silver vehicle, apparently a getaway car. SAPS spokesperson Capt Kay Makhubele told TimesLIVE: “We were alerted about the incident and rushed to the scene but did not find anything. There was no case opened.” Attempts to obtain a statement from the Johannesburg Metro Police were unsuccessful.

If you have an electric gate / garage, do not pull into your driveway before opening the gate. Rather open your gate while your car is still on the road to allow a quick getaway if necessary.

Shanaya passes away after battling cancer
tame TIMES sadly reports that Shanaya Govender (5) (affectionately known as “Shanaya The First”) from Johannesburg has succumbed to cancer after nearly a 2 year battle. On Thursday morning Shanaya took her last breath surrounded by friends and family. On a Facebook page documenting her battle against Ewing sarcoma, her parents described Shanaya Govender’s death as being “in her true style”. “Our princess has turned into a star to shine bright on us forever. She did it her way in true Shanaya the First style. Shanaya passed away now at 7:56am. She wanted her favourite dress, her wig, her tiara, her high heels and make-up. She made us call everyone she is close to then stopped breathing and her heart stopped. She did it her way. No pain, no suffering,” her family said. Shanaya, who turned five in November, was diagnosed with the rare cancer, stage four Ewing sarcoma, with metastasis in both lungs. Her left arm was amputated a year ago. The bubbly girl - who called herself Shanaya the First after Disney princess Sofia the First - had support across the globe as a result of her determination to fight cancer while adorning her favourite ballgowns and tiaras. Trucks and two buses were among the vehicles involved in a collision which left four people dead on the N1 highway south of Johannesburg on Sunday morning. According to News24, 20 other people were reported to have sustained injuries in the accident which happened on the highway between Grasmere toll plaza and the N12. ER24 personnel, along with several other services, arrived on the scene at 07:33 to find numerous vehicles - including light motor vehicles, trucks and a bus - scattered along the road. Numerous patients were found either lying between the vehicles or walking around on the scene,” said ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring. “Local authorities closed off the highway while emergency personnel began to assess the patients. Assessments showed
that four people had sustained fatal injuries while at least 20 others had sustained injuries ranging from minor to critical.” Meiring said some patients were treated on the scene while the critically injured ones were provided with advanced life support interventions before they were transported by various services to nearby hospitals.
