FOUR ACCUSED POLICE GRANTED R5000 BAIL EACH The four SAPS members accused of beating to death 49-year old Phekolomzi Tatsi in detention have been granted R5000 bail each by the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court. The suspects allegedly beat to death Tatsi in detention early on the 09 of March. They claim after they arrested an alleged drunk driver, Tatsi and another passenger who were in the same car followed them to the police station. Two survivors told the #SABCNews they were kicked, pepper-sprayed, and poured with water on that night. They further said Tatsi's plea not to be beaten fell on deaf ears. They are set to be witnesses in this case. Detailing a pathologist's findings, Ipid Investigator Gladwin Ndlovu said, "The deceased [Tatsi] died as a result of multiple blunt force injuries. He sustained multiple rib fractures which led to the rib cage collapse... Ipid's Ndlovu further said, "Tatsi sustained head injuries and suffered severe internal bleeding."

The SAPS members have pleaded not guilty to the murder charge, including two counts of assault and defeating the ends of justice. In an affidavit read out during the bail hearing on Thursday, the suspects said, "We're charging them for interfering with police duties. We then locked them up in our motor vehicle together with our initial suspect and they were shouting and screaming" "At our arrival at the hospital, we opened the police vehicle at the back with the intention to take the suspects for the drawing of blood. But we noticed that one of our suspects, Tatsi was laying in a strange manner," said the suspects The police further said, "We tried to talk to him but nothing came forth. We shook him but he did not respond." Magistrate CN Van Niekerk said that the investigating Officer's statement is clear and concise. Also stating that it gives an idea of what happened that night when the unfortunate death happened. “I'm satisfied that with the evidence

Let’s get Gauteng working! By DA Gauteng Premier Candidate Solly Msimanga

Gauteng should be the Golden Opportunity Province where we can all succeed. But despite its great potential, Gauteng is being held back by the corruption and empty promises of the ruling government. And to make things worse, Eskom’s power blackouts are killing even more jobs and making life harder for our residents. I saw it for myself as the mayor of Tshwane. My government inherited a mayoral mansion and almost R2 billion in debt. That is not how I run a government. My team sold that mansion to build 40 RDP homes and, thanks to job-creating investment, we cleaned it up to ensure that there was money in the bank.

As mayor of Tshwane, Solly’s team started bringing change to all communities.

Give us a chance to get the whole of Gauteng working! Our DA governments in Joburg, Midvaal and Tshwane are already turning around their municipalities – extending clinic hours, creating jobs and putting more metro police officers on the streets. Just imagine how much more we could do if the DA ran the whole province!

On 8 May, vote DA to build A Gauteng that Works! As your premier, I will ensure that there’s a job in every home, create an honest and professional police service, secure our borders, and speed up service delivery. We have proven that we can bring change by rooting out corruption and creating more opportunities – give us a chance to bring change you can believe in!

tame TIMES has survived 10 of the most turbulent years in the Media industry. Digitalization has been taking its toll with Google and Facebook the only winners in the advertising income space. We have seen huge publications fade away. With every release of ABC auditing figures it is clear that the circulation of popular mainstream newspapers are decreasing. tame however, is still going strong. Our sister publication, Taxi Times, is growing faster than any other newspaper in South Africa.

Four of the suspects, aged between 23 and 41 years, were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property (Cobber cable) and the one aged 33 years for bribery. Eskom’s power blackouts are killing jobs and making life harder for South Africans, and now we are being warned to prepare for the grid to fail completely – we could be without electricity for weeks!

This is a crisis caused by the ANC. In 2014, President Ramaphosa himself was placed in charge of fixing Eskom and things have only gotten worse. We must vote this failing government out of power and vote in a DA government that can Keep the Lights On. A DA government would overhaul Eskom, allowing independent power producers to sell power to the grid and getting PetroSA to supply Eskom with diesel at tax-free cost prices, for starters.

Vote DA for change that keeps the lights on. South Africa’s future depends on it. Visit www.KeepTheLightsOn.co.za to see the DA’s plan to save Eskom
