the pulli bowls Drawn on the floor at the entry to homes and businesses, kolams are often believed to invite prosperity and good fortune. The ornamental drawing can take on many forms. The simplest of which is a Pulli or dot pattern. It was a Pulli Kolam that the All’asta product team found as we met with ceramic artisans who provide these bowls. It was a 4 hour journey out a dirt road that got us there. It was the good fortune of their Pulli Kolam to which we were drawn and the inspiration for the dot pattern upon these lovely bowls.

She travels with a bag full of blessings and is in search of more. She adores cities she’s never visited and faces she’s never met. She surrenders to the chaos, finding joy in every little unplanned moment.

scroll tray They were making round lanterns when the All’asta team arrived at the small family owned shop. The various punched metal pieces lay in stacks awaiting their turn. While there were a lot of other things for the product team to see, we kept coming back to the lantern pieces and the intricate scrolling pattern in them. It wasn’t long before the pieces were being pushed and pulled, bent, broken, shaped into what would eventually become this tray.

Sometimes you don’t find what you are looking for, it finds you. This wire basket, inspired by a much larger version being used by metal craftsman to cart materials around their studio, wasn’t a product we set out to find. We were drawn to its off-kilter shape, irregular from one to the next, bumps and scars collected from the life it led, and we fell in love with all of its flaws. Just the kind of story that inspires a great product like this… and everything we believe.

Vibrantly hued and delightfully imperfect, the fabrics on these one-of-a-kind tablet covers still utilize this traditional method. The rich cotton remnants are carefully hand quilted together and recycled with an artisan eye to become something else.

“Waste nothing” is a notion close to our hearts and has long been an art form, particularly with the makers of leather goods. A handbag cut from a large piece of leather might leave enough remnants for a few pairs of shoes. The scraps from the shoes might leave enough for a handful of wallets. Inevitably you reach a point where the pieces left are too small for some artisans to make their wares. Those fragments - the ones that are too little and didn’t make the cut – are woven together into this basket and tell the story of all the other leather items they almost became.

Three Bird Nest was started on a whim in late 2011 by Alicia Shaffer and has quickly grown to be a treasured collection of thoughtful, handmade boho accessories. Born with designing in her blood Alicia spent countless hours with her grandpa in his dusty workshop creating wooden masterpieces and weekends at craft fairs with her mom selling handmade goods. She started her first business at age 6 selling abalone shells to make money for a pet hamster. On the rainy days of the monsoon season, when the weather keeps the artisans from tending to their crops, they revive the imperfect remnants into a unique work of art within the shelter of their own homes. The lively scraps of Indian sari makers are donated direct from the factory floor to cooperatives for local women. These women hand spin the trimmings into a rich textured Chindi rope, earning income and self-sufficiency along the way. What was once waste donated by responsible manufacturers is transformed by women in need to make this wonderful pillow. e

How does it work?

Guests bring 1-3 items that have been gently-used or previously loved – perhaps something you forgot to return or something you are ready to pass along. It’s best to sell things worth more than $10 even if you need to bundle a few items together (remember, you’ll get half of what it sells for)!

When you arrive, you’ll work with our consultant to set your starting bid. This amount will go on a bid sheet next to your item. You earn 50% of the selling price for your treasure – just like you would selling online or on consignment, but with immediate satisfaction and way more fun! During the auction you can bid on items brought by other guests and see what Signature Collection items you’d like from our catalog!

When the auction closes, bidding stops and the consultant takes a few moments to gather the sheets and announce the winners. Winners buy their items and take them home that night! Sellers use their 50% profit at the party as credit towards auction purchases or catalog orders, or they can choose to receive a check within two weeks of when the party closes.
