Life as a Thirty-One Consultant is pretty good, if you ask me! Now it has it’s ups and downs - everything worth doing in life does! But, as always, Home Office is right there, supporting us, thinking ahead, recognizing new and innovative ways to grow the company and our businesses. We learned about a huge change that is going to do just that. Yes, we will be sad to see the StartSwell program go away, but we need to be flexible and embrace a new way to sponsor new team members, encourage them to start their journey off strong. We all

know that if we can move them from newbie to qualified, they will see a huge difference in their own business. It’s that initial hurdle to kick start them. In the past, getting them to that level was challenging - it still will be a challenge. But with the new tools and incentives offered in the Wishes program, it became a little easier. Party

We are all about the party at Thirty-One - but do you still party? I’m not talking about the new wave of online parties and social media hookups. I’m talking old-school, in the living room, ten women having a blast with a pile of products, catalogs in hands, no kids, no better half in tow, and you doing your thing.

If not, why? Did some anti-party bug come bite you? Did the party police show up and tell you that you were doing too much? Let me guess, you are afraid to do in-home parties or you think nobody wants to party offline, right?! Online parties are simpler and you can do more, right?! WRONG, WRONG! We women are social creatures. Now she may not want 15 people schlepping through her living room on Thursday night, but I bet if you offered to meet her and 10 of her besties at the Froo-Froo Palace for tea and sandwiches, they’d beat you in the door!

No Alice, this ain’t Disney World - but there is something magical about that party vibe. There is just something about a group of women getting together, laughing, talking, having fun that nourishes our soul and we need it just like plants need water!

Want more money? How much? Double what you made last year? Triple? It’s doable, but to get more you have to do more! You have to commit to not be complacent with minimums. In fact, that minimum you strive to hit each month needs to become your new baseline! Nothing less!

Sometimes we get bogged down looking at team results and we forget - we are part of our own team! How can we expect the team to perform when we don’t! We should be setting the mark for them to beat and shouting from the rooftops with a loud celebratory noise when they do! In order for this thing of ours to work - we have to have a unified approach - to everything! Sales, sponsoring, partying - we all have to do these things to stay in business! If, as the leader, you create a culture where these things live and thrive - guess what! They will! Have you ever noticed at conference that certain teams out-perform others. Now I’m not finger pointing - but think about it. The teams that have leaders who push themselves, have more team members who push themselves.

Getting her to say yes without asking!

“Would you like to book a party with me?” - or “Want to learn more about selling 31?” Ever ask those two questions? Well stop! Now, before you get crazy, I’m not suggesting that you stop offering the chance to book a party with you or learn about your opportunity. Just think about it for a second. Who are both of those questions about? You, right? There’s nothing in either one of them that makes her feel like you’re making it about her AT ALL. Plus, just from a purely practical standpoint, they’re also closed-ended questions (meaning they can be answered with a yes or no). That usually leaves you no place to go when it comes to overcoming objections and supporting the person in seeing what’s possible if they say yes.

“Renee, I want you as one of my June hostesses! You added so much to the party tonight! You’re fun! Let’s look at our schedules and see when we can get together. Which week works best for you?” “Sue, it was great talking with you. I so appreciated your honesty about your daycare situation and I could really relate. I’m still thinking about your situation and I’d love to buy you a cup of coffee and share with you what I love about how flexible my job is. How does next week look?” See how easy that is? You’re still using a question, but now it’s an open-ended question proceeded by lots of acknowledgment FOR HER and it’s clear that you’re more interested in HER needs than your own.

So, if you can’t ask those questions, how do you book home parties and build your team? By making a shift from asking to offering. It’s really that simple. Solutions, not excuses! Handling Out of Stock Situations

The phone rings and it’s your customer. You’re so excited because she is in a shopping mood! She starts giving you her order and you’re on cloud nine! She’s ordered over $200 in product and you even convince her to convert her order to a party. Then...she tells you she wants an Essential Storage Tote in the new unicorn print for her granddaughter. Your heart sinks - you know it just went out of stock - what do you say? Do you freak out? Of course not! You are a pro! You pivot and let her know that the product was super popular - so much so that current stock is depleted, but you do have that print available in four other products! Then, pivot again and ask her how she intended to use the product and provide her with options. If she has her heart set on the Essential Storage Tote, offer it to her in another print, but share that additional inventory may be available in a few weeks and ask if she wants you to let her know when it arrives. Okay - now what have you done there? Did you catch that? You calmly let her know about the current out of stock situation but immediately pivoted her focus to another product in the same print (which is what she is likely really drawn to)

and salvaged the sale. If she takes the substitute, you’re good! You’ve also given her the option to purchase her original selection in a different print! Either way, still offer to let her know when the out of stock item is available and give HER the choice to purchase then. Then you’ve sold two products, not one! A customers response to out of stock situations depend largely on you on average, 69% will complete the sale with a substitute or be willing to wait for fresh stock. Now, if she declines the substitute, she still has the option to wait on the stock to replenish - so the sale for that item is delayed a few weeks and that’s okay too! In any of these scenarios you put the choice in her hands. She’ll appreciate your honesty and your flexibility in providing her with solutions, not excuses. Low inventory and out of stock situations are NOT the end of the world - or your business. THERE IS NO PURSE OR TOTE EMERGENCY! These type of situations can develop at any time with any type of business! The key is to be prepared, have a solution in hand, and let the customer decide what’s best for them. Your customers deserve that level of professionalism!
