Special ASA2022 Melbourne Conference Issue
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT AND CEO
W
elcome to the ASA2022 Melbourne Conference issue of soundeffects news. We are excited to be able to bring the full ASA Conference experience back to you, bigger and better than ever before. This issue provides you with everything you need to know about about the ASA2022 Melbourne Conference, with the most up-to-date program information, great background information on our over 11 international and 7 national keynote speakers, as well as the latest information about what you can access in person and online across the three days in May.
This year’s conference is the largest sonography conference in the Southern Hemisphere, developed for sonographers by sonographers. You will have access to over 230 lectures that can be accessed and watched by all attendees for up to three months after the event. The conference program also includes a dedicated Cardiac Day on the Saturday. The best way to experience this conference is in person; delegates will be able to choose from over 90 workshops of live scanning, catch up with your friends and colleagues at the networking drinks on the Friday night, and attend the Gala Dinner, which will host the ASA Awards and have a dance floor to party the night away. If your circumstances change and prevent you from attending in person, you can always change your registration to online only. There are many people who make sure our conference goes off without a hitch, from volunteers to our partners and staff; literally, hundreds of hours go into making

the conference a success. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Program Committee of volunteer sonographers who have worked tirelessly with the ASA office team to deliver the outstanding program this year. The program includes a huge selection of speakers, both internationally and nationally with five lecture rooms available each day, five workshop rooms, and a dedicated cardiac room on Saturday. There will be over 25 exhibitors at the conference for you to interact with in the breaks. We would like to thank all our partners for supporting the ASA, the profession and the conference. A special thank you to our Gold Partners, without which we would not be able to deliver you the outstanding workshops in person. We will be announcing the recipients of the Awards of Excellence, new ASA Fellows, and the Pru Pratten Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award at the ASA2022 Gala Dinner. The ASA Awards and Fellowship inductees enable us to recognise
outstanding achievement within the sonography profession by shining a light on individual sonographers and their contribution. Whether you attend in person or online, we invite you to celebrate your peers and their achievements at the Gala Dinner on Saturday night. Hopefully we will see many of you in person at the ASA2022 Melbourne Conference for three amazing days together, especially after the difficulties and uncertainty of the last two years.

CONFERENCE TESTIMONIALS Don’t just take our word for it, read what past delegates said about the ASA’s Annual International Conference in 2021.
The value we get out of this conference is worth it and beyond expectation, especially the encouragement, the sharing and the reaching out we received from peers, educators, specialists, and even the sponsors.
ASA has always done really well with providing a wide variety of topics to choose from. I have always found the presentations on pathologies inspiring and it motivates me to look harder. I was very happy with the caliber of speakers and the quality of their images ... outstanding! Great to find that all presentations are to be available for three months as there are so many I would like to watch and linger over for best learning. The speakers were excellent. Very relevant and interesting topics. Useful information to be used in clinical practice. The online option is great, allowing many sonographers who cannot attend in person to still participate and gain valuable CPD. Loved loved loved the online option. So great to be able to do conference from a deck chair without the drama of travel. Invaluable in regards to learning, but also with making connections and feeling part of the bigger ultrasound community.
Absolutely the best learning experience. The conference was, once again, well put together. The range of topics and the quality of presentations was excellent. ASA conference is very educational, motivational and consistent with latest technology advancement.
Another excellent and very informative educational event from the ASA. A wide range of topics covered to suit all levels of experience with some exceptional presenters.
The ASA conference provides quality educational opportunities alongside a welcoming camaraderie. It is great value for the financial investment.

Becoming a Fellow is recognition of a member’s significant contribution to the sonography profession and the ASA. Fellowship is recognised as a hallmark of a specialist of the highest professional standing. ASA Fellows Bonita and Sandhya share their thoughts on the significance of becoming a Fellow of the ASA. Besides adding extra letters after my name, I believe that FASA immediately identifies me as a sonographer who has demonstrated an extraordinary dedication and commitment to the profession as well as to the ASA. Receiving FASA was like getting an award silently saying, “Thank you, all of your contributions have not gone unnoticed”.
Being awarded FASA is a recognition of professional excellence and is an achievement in itself. On a personal level, for me it has inspired and motivated me to strive further in the field of sonography. It’s also great when students come up to you and say that you are their role model! – Sandhya Maranna
