MISSION African Leadership Academy seeks to transform Africa by developing a powerful network of over 6,000 leaders who will work together to address Africa’s greatest challenges, achieve extraordinary social impact, and accelerate the continent’s growth trajectory.
VISION
Africa’s greatest need is ethical and entrepreneurial leadership. Too often, we only invest in addressing the symptoms of poor leadership in Africa: we give blankets, food, and medicine to those impacted by war, poverty, and famine. But these efforts will never stop unless we develop leaders who prevent wars, entrepreneurs who create jobs, and innovators that develop lasting solutions to the root causes of Africa’s problems. We aim to develop the future Nelson Mandela, the next Wangari Maathai, and the African Bill Gates.
VALUES INTEGRITY We are people of our word, with the courage to do what is right. DIVERSITY We respect all people and believe that difference should be celebrated CURIOSITY We challenge the status quo and take the initiative to pursue new ideas. HUMILITY We are thankful for opportunities and are aware of our limitations. COMPASSION We empathize with and care for those around us. We respect all people and believe that difference should be celebrated EXCELLENCE We set high standards for our own achievement and celebrate the achievements of others
TRAITS AUTODIDACT Successfully directs and manages own learning to surmount challenges and achieve goals. COMMUNICATOR Communicates effectively for purpose and audience. CRITICALTHINKER Constructs knowledge within a domain. AFRICANIST Engages with Africa’s past and present in order to serve its future. COLLABORATOR Works inclusively with others to define and achieve aims Upholds and honours expectations for self and others. ENTREPRENEURIAL Approaches challenges as opportunities for impact

WHAT DO WE DO WITH ALL THIS
FUTURE?
For all of you incoming Yetus, you think it’s so long until graduation but it’s not. You’ll suddenly blink and it’ll be dorm exit and you’ll be packing up your room saying some very hard emotional goodbyes to the people you spent time with. So cherish every minute, every day. Go for every school event possible, Tamasha parties, participate in hall events, go for morning walks. Spend as much time as you can with everyone you care about because before long, it’ll be three days before you start a new life and you’ll be wondering where the hell time actually went.
