ONE
CHOOSE A MAJOR AND FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH THE ACADEMIC PROGRAM Each academic major has its own degree requirements at the Texas A&M University Galveston Campus.
SPECIFYING A MAJOR You must apply to a specific major, you will have the option to list a secondchoice major.
GRADE POINT AVERAGE (GPA) A 2.5 GPA on a minimum of 24 hours of graded transferable coursework is required for review. Credit by examination courses (AP, IB, CLEP) do not count towards the 24 hours required for consideration for admission. Grades for all transferable courses are used to calculate GPA, including: failing grades, repeated courses, Withdraw/Fail, Incomplete, etc. Texas A&M University does not replace grades. Grades reported as Incomplete are computed as an F. Plus and minus grade designations are not used; C+ is computed as a C, B- as a B, etc.

APPLY TO TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY GALVESTON CAMPUS Complete the entire admission application including Essay Topic A. The information you provide inside the transfer application will also be used for scholarship consideration. tamug.edu/admissions/transfer. In addition to the application, other documents are also required. See page 5.
ADMISSIONS DECISIONS Transfer admission decisions are made on a rolling basis with preference given to applicants with highest GPA, the most appropriate courses for the specified academic major and a compelling essay. If you are applying for admission you may be asked to submit final grades before a decision is made. Frequent course drops/withdraws and unsatisfactory grades (D or F, depending on intended major) are considered in review. You should include in-progress coursework on the application and college transcript. In-progress courses listed on an official transcript could factor into admission decisions depending on the academic major.
TIPS FOR APPLYING Submit the application and required documents early in the admissions cycle. Allow 2 weeks to process each document.

Offers broad preparation in general biology and life sciences emphasizing hands-on experiences with plants and animals in marine environments. Students study everything from viruses to whales, from molecular biology to ecology.
MARINE FISHERIES Provides educational and hands-on experiences in science-based conservation and management for sustainable fisheries. Students learn fishery techniques, management, mariculture and aquatic animal health.
MARINE SCIENCES

Offers academic instruction in natural sciences (chemical, physical and geological oceanography) with emphasis on ocean and global processes including climate systems. Students study how the marine environment evolves from time scales of seconds to millions of years, from single elements in the water to how the ocean regulates the climate system and reacts to human activities. Instruction is complemented by fieldwork and hands-on experiences.
COASTAL ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE & SOCIETY

5-YEAR DEGREE PROGRAM AVAILABLE WITH MASTER OF MARITIME BUSINESS & LOGISTICS Provides rigorous preparation in business in the key areas of accounting, finance, marketing, corporate law and economics, as well as advanced courses in logistics, cybersecurity, brokerage and chartering, organizational behavior, transportation economics and port and terminal operations.
MARINE TRANSPORTATION

Combines studies in international trade and transportation with instruction and training in maritime disciplines to provide a U.S. Maritime Service Cadet with a broad-based education, and the qualifications for the Third Mate’s License (Oceans Unlimited).

Provides applied knowledge in mechanical and electrical engineering fundamentals, which are reinforced by practical machine shop experience, welding and laboratory experiences. Students may choose to pursue the Third Assistant Engineering License (Steam and/or Motor Vessels, Unlimited).
MARITIME STUDIES Focuses on history, archaeology, literature and politics of maritime peoples and cultures from ancient times to the present. Students gain hands-on experiences on ships, with artifact conservation and curation, and develop a portfolio of materials.

UNIVERSITY STUDIES, WITH CONCENTRATIONS IN Oceans & One Health Designed to explore the intersection between animal, human and environmental health. Provides coursework needed for students interested in entering professional programs after graduation, including medical, dental and veterinary school or public health. This program has an option to earn an M.S. in Clinical Laboratory Sciences from the University of Texas Medical Branch.
Tourism & Coastal Community Development Applied program directed at offering multidisciplinary knowledge to assist coastal communities progress economically while maintaining sound ecological and environmental practices. This program can be complemented with a minor in business tailored specifically to the service and tourism industry.

TEXAS A&M MARITIME ACADEMY ENTRY INTO THE TEXAS A&M MARITIME ACADEMY The Texas A&M Maritime Academy is one of six state maritime academies in the United States. The Texas A&M Maritime Academy incorporates the academic degree programs of Texas A&M University Galveston Campus with professional licensing for the U.S. Merchant Marine. Admission to the Texas A&M Maritime Academy requires admission to Texas A&M University Galveston Campus. If you are a License Option applicant, you must major in Marine Transportation, Marine Biology, Marine Engineering Technology, Marine Sciences or any Graduate Studies-LO Program. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR TRANSFER INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS Copies of official international transcripts from other institutions are acceptable, provided the applicant is enrolled in the U.S. and those copies have been verified by that U.S. institution. Transcript evaluations from an evaluation service which is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services or from the International Education Credential Services provided by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers are recommended and will be accepted. Translations sent directly from the institution attended or from a recognized translator will be accepted. Faxed and/or notarized copies are not accepted. PROVIDE PROOF OF BACTERIAL MENINGITIS IMMUNIZATION
Texas Senate Bill 1107 (now TEC 51.9192) requires all students entering an institution of higher education to either receive a vaccination against bacterial meningitis or meet certain criteria for declining such a vaccination before the first day of the semester.

GUIDELINES CREDIT BY EXAMINATION
Coursework taken as credit by examination must be listed as a specific course on an official college transcript to be considered in the admissions process and for transfer of credit. Credit by examination courses transcripted at another college may transfer if sequential coursework with credit is also included. Although they do not count toward the required 24 hours, they are considered in the review. Credit by examination courses that are part of your program of study at your previous institution will be awarded, provided transfer guidelines are met.
DUAL CREDIT
College coursework completed prior to high school graduation will be considered in the transfer admission process and are included in the calculation of overall GPA. A transcript for college credit earned in high school is a required document and must be submitted by the appropriate deadline.
HOUSING
On-campus housing registration is available at tamug.edu/cll. With limited exceptions, all single undergraduate students enrolled in more than nine credit hours are required to live in campus housing and participate in the board plan provided that space in campus housing is available. Exemptions to the housing requirement based on special circumstances will be considered upon written request to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs or designee. Exemptions cannot be granted based upon economic consideration and will generally only be granted when a student qualifies as married, single parent and guardian, veteran, twenty-one or older, or living with parent or guardian (not generally available to License Option/NROTC students). tx.ag/TAMUGStudentRule32
