TEXAS A&M IS THE FIRST PUBLIC INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN TEXAS One of a select few institutions in the United States to hold land, sea and space-grant designations; one of a very few universities to host a presidential library and one of a few American universities to have a branch campus in the Middle East.

TEXAS A&M, SINCE 1876 — Texas A&M University opened its doors on 4 October 1876 as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas, with an emphasis on agriculture and engineering. In time the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas evolved to embrace areas of emphasis beyond its original mandate, and the institution officially changed its name to Texas A&M University in 1963. As the world has grown smaller through innovations such as the Internet and the emerging world economy, Texas A&M has diversified its curricula, student body, faculty and culture to meet the needs of this global community. In 2003, Qatar Foundation invited Texas A&M to establish a campus at Education City in Doha, Qatar. In 2008, the Qatar campus conferred its first degrees on deserving students, of whom 18 were women. Classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a research university, Texas A&M is consistently ranked in the top tier of research institutions by the U.S. National Science Foundation. The faculty at the Qatar campus have enhanced this reputation for research excellence by garnering millions of dollars in research grants annually.

15

ABOUT TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY AT QATAR — Prepare to solve the engineering challenges of tomorrow In 2003 — as part of His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani’s vision for the development of Qatar — Texas A&M University was invited by Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development to establish a branch campus in Education City, located in Doha, Qatar. Texas A&M at Qatar curricula are identical to those offered at the main campus in College Station, Texas. Courses are taught in a coeducational setting in English. Like their counterparts in Texas, faculty at the Qatar campus prepare students to excel in engineering related careers. In May 2019, Texas A&M University at Qatar graduated its 1,000th student. Graduates of Texas A&M at Qatar represent more than 30 nationalities, and more than 45 percent are female. Enrollment consistently exceeds 500 students in four undergraduate programs and one graduate program. As demand for professional engineers continues to grow worldwide, the Qatar campus offers students a first-class education. Equipped with a degree from Texas A&M at Qatar, students can put that knowledge to work shaping Qatar’s future.

16

Texas A&M at Qatar’s bachelor’s degree programs in chemical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and petroleum engineering have been accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, the global accreditor of college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering and engineering technology.

ENGINEERING AT TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY AT QATAR — Texas A&M University’s College of Engineering is one of the largest engineering colleges in the world. Texas A&M at Qatar provides the same world-class education available at the Texas A&M’s main campus. Currently, the Qatar campus offers four-degree tracks in chemical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and petroleum engineering, and a Master of Science and Master of Engineering in chemical engineering. Spanning 55,000 square meters of space and more than 60 laboratories, the Texas A&M Engineering Building combines modernist elements with traditional Islamic architectural motifs to create one of the most advanced engineering educational facilities in the world. The building is fully wireless and features high-tech classrooms, teaching laboratories and computer laboratories. A research annex provides specialized research laboratories that give future Aggie engineers first-hand experience solving real-world problems in a state-of-the-art learning environment.

29

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE CHEMICAL ENGINEERING — Chemical engineers combine knowledge from mathematics and the basic sciences with practical experiences. Their work is important for developing new products and for designing, operating and managing plants and processes. Chemical engineers contribute to the conversion of natural resources into economical, safe, environmentally friendly and useful products. Texas A&M at Qatar’s curriculum provides a balanced education in chemical engineering principles and practices. Courses emphasize fundamentals and methods applicable to the analysis, development, design and operation of a wide variety of chemical engineering systems and processes. Using facility laboratories, students gain experience evaluating a variety of unit operations, operating process control equipment and using state-of the practice computational tools and software. Chemical engineers lead in a variety of sectors: — oil and gas — chemicals — food and pharmaceutical processing — utilities — environmental engineering — strategy consulting — financial industries — public sector NGOs and inter-governmental institutions

30

31

32

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING — It is hard to find a single piece of technology from the past 100 years that has not been significantly influenced by electrical and computer engineering. Electrical engineers were integral to the discovery or invention of computers, the microchip, wired and wireless communications, medical diagnostic systems, and many more. Through a diversified curriculum grounded in the fundamentals of engineering and hands-on experiences in the laboratories, Texas A&M at Qatar prepares electrical engineering graduates for a wide range of career opportunities. Computers are integrated throughout the curriculum, and basic studies lead to two tracks of electives in the senior year: the power track and the communication track. The power track trains students in theory and techniques related to power electronics and power systems. The communication track prepares students to address opportunities and challenges in the area of digital wired and wireless communication systems.

33

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE MECHANICAL ENGINEERING — From automobile design to nuclear power, mechanical engineers make things work. Mechanical engineers deal with the design of machinery, automation and control systems, and generation, conversion, transmission and use of mechanical and thermal energy. Mechanical engineers characterize, specify and analyze materials used in design and manufacturing. Manufacturing systems, robotics, electromechanical devices and control systems are also the purview of the mechanical engineer. Texas A&M at Qatar’s curriculum requires students to develop and apply logical thinking, innovative approaches and ethical standards as prerequisites for professional competence. Courses cover basic theory and are complemented by laboratory experiences in science and mathematics, dynamic systems and controls, design, experimentation, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, manufacturing, and materials. A capstone design experience, sponsored by various industries, requires students to combine their knowledge and skills to design a product or system.

34

35

36

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE PETROLEUM ENGINEERING — Petroleum engineering addresses the economic extraction of oil, gas and other energy resources from the earth. Design, drilling and operation of wells and well systems and the integrated management of underground reservoirs, comprise the basic skill set of petroleum engineers. Extracting resources efficiently, economically and in an environmentally friendly way is the lifeblood of the global economy. Courses cover fluid flow through subsurface formations, geological structures and conditions favorable for petroleum deposits, and the practical application of engineering principles in the petroleum industry. The curriculum requires students to complete a hands-on experience during the summer before their senior year.
