showcasing all we have to offer. Ankerside alone has 60 stores, the market boasts 100 different traders and that’s without taking into account all the smaller independent shops, all offering something that little bit different.

And Christmas in Tamworth is set to round off our amazing year. We will have school choirs performing in St Editha’s Square, the church itself will be holding a Christmas Tree Festival and the town will be lit up as the countdown to Christmas gets underway.

You also have the chance to take part in the Christmas Trail (see opposite page for details), which could see you winning £500 in cash, while helping to support local town centre traders.

As the year draws to a close, I hope you will enjoy and take advantage of the many specialities Tamworth town centre has to offer. We have a great historic town and in these tough times, the need for community and businesses to come together is greater than ever. Looking for something different? Tamworth Market every Tuesday and Saturday

Every Saturday and Tuesday - come rain and shine - the streets of Tamworth come to life as shoppers enjoy the hustle and bustle of our market.

8

For hundreds of years Tamworth has enjoyed being a market town – and the twice-weekly shoppers’ haven has never been more popular. Now almost 100 different traders flock to our town centre to sell a huge range of goods to the market’s loyal visitors. The market is run by LSD Promotions, which has seen the market go from strengthto-strength during the last two years. Whether visiting the everpopular fish stall, looking for ingredients for a traditional Sunday roast, or browsing for gifts such as jewellery, the market has it all.

In addition, there are stalls selling household goods, clothing, fruit and veg, sweets and cards. And community groups can also take advantage of free stalls every Tuesday, to raise awareness of the valuable services they offer. Shoppers seem to enjoy the banter between traders as much as anything else! Not only does the market take place twice a week, specialist markets include the Italian and French market. The everpopular French market brings a taste of France to Tamworth each year. The Castle Grounds are filled with stalls selling arts, crafts and food. The aroma of crepes being freshly cooked, fresh bread and cheese fill the town’s air.

New antique and collectables market Taking place in Lower Gungate, the antique and collectables market is the latest addition and it aims to attract new traders to the town. This twice monthly market is run by Antiques2Go and will add a new dimension to the market, while encouraging more shoppers and visitors to this area of the town. Take a tour of Tamworth’s market - we think you will be very impressed with everything it has to offer.

Earlier this year, the market took part in National Markets Week, which saw catering students from the college cook under the Town Hall – all with ingredients sourced from market traders. 9

10

Sit back, relax and unwind…. If you are thinking about pampering yourself this Christmas, then look no further - Tamworth offers just about every beauty treatment you can think of. Whether you fancy a new hairstyle just in time for your Christmas party, or are looking for something classic, a gorgeous colour or just some great advice, make sure you have your appointment booked. And don’t forget those killer nails, or even a spray tan to brighten up any look for a big night out.

Many of our fabulous beauty salons have the latest treatments where stresses are soothed, aches eased and skin smoothed, while makeup counters can give an instant boost to your confidence with new products and help and advice. And it’s not just treatments for women which are available; there are a whole host of treatments aimed at men too. Don’t forget to book soon as many of the salons are already booked up for this year’s festive season!

11

Explore Tamworth’s hidden gems Nestled in the middle of Tamworth’s bustling town centre are beautiful independent shops, giving shoppers a different – yet wonderful – experience of the town.

12

If shoppers are looking for somewhere off the main high street for shops with a difference, there are four independent areas to choose from, or why not visit all four?

Bolebridge Mews Bolebridge Mews has established itself as a thriving place to visit. For more than two decades shoppers have been visiting the mews and browsing its independent shops.

As well as places to eat, there is a toy shop, a bridal shop, hairdressers, a cobblers, a crystal shop, tattoo parlour along with an autograph shop. On the very edge of the town centre, Bolebridge Street Mews offers shoppers something a little bit different to the main town centre.

street is one of the oldest – and prettiest – in Tamworth. It also features a hair and beauty salon for those wanting to be pampered. And it caters for those with a keen interest in arts and crafts, while the more contemporary

skate shop brings younger people flocking to the area. Just around the corner there is also a butchers, a specialist cheese shop and a traditional sweet shop.

Little Church Lane Right in the middle of the town centre is Little Church Lane – a quaint shopping area next door to the beautiful St Editha’s Church. It’s just the place to go for those feeling peckish. With a range of restaurants, cafes and a sandwich shop to choose from, the cobbled

Mitchell’s Court A short walk from Little Church Lane - and opposite one of Tamworth’s oldest pubs – is Mitchell’s Court. This really does have something for everyone – a milkshake parlour for the youngsters, a contemporary clothing shop for teenagers, a shop for keen cyclists, a hair salon and a graphic design service. Sharon Fox Vintage Boutique - and her breast cancer support charity - is also at Mitchell’s Court, both which have proved a huge success.

Orchard Street Orchard Street has a range of stylish outlets to choose from. Brides-to-be can visit a beautiful bridal shop, the hair stylists and finish off with cocktails or coffee and tapas. Positioned just a minute away from the busy market, it’s a great place to spend some time. Tamworth’s town centre has so much more to offer - why not take some time to explore our independent shopping areas?

And one of the ways we are working to help this happen is Tamworth’s TownSafe Scheme.

And TownSafe launched ‘Citizen Watch’ earlier this year, which offers a safe haven to people with learning disabilities, in the event they feel threatened, bullied or scared while they are out in the town centre. Shop staff are trained to be able to make calls on their behalf to the police, a carer or family member. Citizen Watch will also help

Many of the shops, cafes and licensed premises across the town are all signed up to this initiative, which means they are all linked via a radio system so they can let each other know about any potential problems. It also means shoppers know if they have an issue, they can let the staff know and they can instantly share their concerns

Look out for your Christmas bin calendars Calendars with information about bin collections are being delivered to every Tamworth household. The calendars will give details of any changes to bin collections over the festive period – and details for the forthcoming year. Residents are encouraged to take a look at the calendars or visit www.recyclefortamworth.co.uk Alternatively give customer services a call on 0845 002 0022. Extra bags of recycling will be taken, if it is placed in carrier bags or sacks, but not black bags. And for those with real Christmas trees, don’t forget they can either be chopped down and put in the green bins, or taken to the household waste recycling centre in Lichfield.
