A waterfall for your space. Individual Project | 1 Month Brief: To redesign a water purifier and to enhance experience.

Prologue: The Problem Area

Problem/ They look medical like. Opportunity.

Non-Inviting? Modern Day water purifiers are almost medical, boxy and non-Inviting. The experience of taking water is rather monotonous. They are engineered not designed.

Experience Matters.

Water as element has a unique experience. Can I hear? Smell? Touch Water? Can the experience of a waterfall be brought to a water purifier?

Story from a Scenario. Highlight the problem of Experience.

Key Sketch

Ideate out of box. Literally. Ideation was aimed at creating a multitude of forms and experiences That were inspired by nature, textures and movement.

Inspiration Board.

Form Development

Final Form development was done keeping in mind the texture and movement of water. The Copper was used as an element that represents aging with water.

CASCADE A wall-mounted Waterfall inspired water purifier for the niche you.

The BLUE Arrow represents non-filtered water only used for visuals that keeps up-cycling. The RED Arrow is Filtered water that is deployed out of the tank placed behind the plate. This is filtered water ready to drink.

Learnings: -Textures in a product can help evoke a feeling. -Retain the core inspiration and to translate that into a product.

Whats Next? -To explore and possibly enhance the CMF of the product. -To obtain ballpark costings and the manufacturing process to make Cascade.

03 | ROULETTE LIGHT + Interaction Module.

Individual Project | 2 Months Brief: To Design a Light + Interaction module to enhance the experience at a Bar/Restaurant.

“The Owner”

“The Waiter”

“The Consumer”

Understanding the Space and the People. Bar as a space is often used to relax and break from a common rut people are in. Lighting used in a bar is often mood based and accent based. There are three primary stakeholders involved.

Real Spaces. Real Problems An extensive research was conducted to understand the space, the interactions, the arrangement and behavior of consumers in spaces like these using IDEO Method Cards Fly on the wall techniques. Real time patterns, interactions and durations were mapped using this in the Ethnography.

“Out of sight, Out of mind” Often People use there phones even while waiting for their orders.

“Oh Waiter! Where are you? The problem of notifying the waiters around you was also observed.

Your Problem. My Opportunity. Based on these insights, There is an underlying opportunity to enhance the waiter-user experience and also to utilize the time to wait for your order into something productive.

Mix Light + Storage? Keeping in mind the Insights and different problems, Concepts were created to tackle lost interaction and to help notify the waiters.

Further, A Techpack and CAD model was developed To make a working prototype of the concept.

Key Sketch

Intention: Light + Customizable Storage at The base.

Handcraft:

The product was further handcrafted to its last detail And assembled to a make a working 1:1 Scale Prototype. It required a lot of back and forth to make the necessary tweaks.

Material Constraints A balance of WOOD and ACRYLIC.

Spin to notify waiters// Spin the light which after rotation would enable the waiters to respond to your table in their periphery.

//Keep your belongings Safe The ambient light replaces the traditional tea-light For you to keep your essentials safe under light.

Play while Waiting// In a particular instance, finish the puzzle before your first Order arrives to get a round of drinks on the house.

Oils/Herbs Storage: Cutlery Storage:

Personal Storage:

Customize the Base// The base can be used uniquely by each restaurant to store their essentials or leave the space for the user to use.

Learnings: -To use real time insights to make a product. -To make a Low-Tech Solution. -Work with material constraints to make a working prototype.

Whats Next? -Pitch this Idea to the Service Industry in India. -To explore different typologies. -To get it in the Market.

04 | GAIA. Self-Watering Kitchen Composter. Individual Project | 1 Month Brief: To Design an easy composting solution with an Added value.

Food Wastage is a GLOBAL PROBLEM:

It is estimated that saving one-fourth of the food currently lost or wasted globally would be enough to feed 870 million hungry people in the world, of which the highest number (about 194.6 million) are in India.

Interview:

Understanding the Brand:

Leftover Management:

Cooking Time:

“We are on the side of Food Problems/Opportunities Problems like difficulty in the process of the understanding composting, No added value in this process can be a good leading point.

Can composting become Effortless? Keeping this in mind an automated solution was fused with an ancient method of BOKASHI Composting.

G A I A An automated self-watering planter with a built in composting unit making it easier than ever to produce manure at urban households.
