Guy Fawkes Night is an annual commemoration observed mainly in Great Britain. Its history begins with the events of 5 November 1605, when Guy Fawkes, a member of the Gunpowder Plot, was arrested beneath the House of Lords. Celebrating the fact that King James I had survived, people lit bonfires around London, and Parliament enforced an annual day of thanksgiving for the plot's failure.
The Lord Mayor's Show, the longest established and best known annual event in London, dates back to 1535. The City of London is now the metropolis's financial district and is informally known as the Square Mile. A new Lord Mayor is appointed every year and the public parade that is made of his inauguration reflects the fact that this was once one of the most prominent offices in England.
Mayfair (originally called The May Fair) is an area by the east edge of Hyde Park. The district is now mainly commercial, with many former homes converted into offices for major corporations’ headquarters, embassies and also hedge fund businesses. There remains a substantial quantity of residential property as well as some exclusive shopping and London's largest concentration of luxury hotels and restaurants. Rents are among the highest in the world.
Come to this lovely restaurant to have meze- a mix of many different hot & cold dishes for £12.50. Try bakla- a broad bean salad, borek, a cheese stuffed pastry and meat stews and kofte, a minced lamb kabab. .
The museum features over 12,000 original items including domestic "everyday" products, posters, toys and games. Set out in chronological order in the form of a “Time Tunnel”, the museum gives visitors a trip down memory lane and shows how the brands around us have evolved from the naïve charm of Victorian times to the greater sophistication of today, reflecting the change in shopping habits, the effects of two world wars and the gradual emancipation of women.
