Missionary Team Daily Progress Wednesday, December 18, 2013
Mission Sonora began Wednesday with the loading of the trailer. Rather than take a bus, we decided to take a small trailer and truck. The picture on the left shows just how packed the small trailer we had was. We had way more clothes and toys to take than we had room for. Luckily, we were able to switch out the small trailer for a large U-Haul, thanks to a generous donation by Juan’s employer. This was a great help and has served us well in many areas. We brought a full trailer of clothes to Sonora, and are planning on using the U-Haul to carry toys, clothes and food.

Hitting the Road
“On the road again... I can’t wait to get on the road again. Just can’t wait to get on the road again.”
Friday, December 20, 2013 The trip to Sonora itself was rather uneventful - thankfully. We departed at around 6:30a.m. and had clear, snow-free weather the whole way. There were 5 of us in a 6 person truck, so it was definitely not as comfortable as being on the bus, like years past. A few interesting things that happened along the way: We pulled over to help a man change his tire. Dino ran into his sergeant at a gas station in Arizona Dino somehow ended up in San Diego (did he want to go to the beach?) We saw a giant cement beam (see picture below).

Saturday, December 22, 2013 When we arrived in Nogales, Arizona, we checked into our hotel and took some MUCH needed showers. We got in touch with the church Rios de Agua Viva, letting them know that we would be available to work the next day. As usual, things didn’t go as planned. We ended up having to take the U-Haul to a small church, La Uncion, in Nogales, Arizona, and got right to work the same day. When we got there, it took Hector and Dino 15 minutes to park the truck and U-Haul. That was fun! We weren’t able to unload right away, so we went to the nearby Walmart and bought groceries for the week (lots of coffee and bananas). By then we were ready to start making trips across the border to Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. We then spent the rest of the evening taking trips of clothing to the church in Sonora. Having not eaten all day, we decided to take a quick lunch/dinner break and enjoy a DELICIOUS Papa Loca. Our faces were priceless. The food was amazing, and our stomachs were full. We had regained our energy and were ready to start making more trips across the border. We were blessed with no inspections (which can happen sometimes when crossing items across the border), and all the immigration officials were nice. Especially the ones that thought “Dionicio” was pronounced “Diana”. We got home at around 11:30pm. An early day by our standards. We’ll see what tomorrow brings!

“La Cadenita” in action. The most efficient way to transport bags, boxes and other items. It’s a skill we learn very fast.
