QUESTION How to address all the requirements and yet, aspire to an iconic design of great visual impact?
LIMIT With the irregular g site the first step was to occupy the totality of space between the two adjacent buildings
SUBTRACT Remove gground floor level to keep existing permeability between High Court Street and Aire River
DISTANCE
LIGHT
Ensure compliance p with restrictions related to rights of ways and overlooking
Insertion of light, g , balance and connection with green roof creating space.
Propose p a pphysical y connection with the Calls Landing building by means of a suspended passage North/South orientated
The South pprominent volume at first floor level to propose a green roof relating to the River edge
REFERENCE Contextualizingg the building adjusting to the diferent characteristics of the adjacent constructions. “Slice” the prominent edges of the volume: A_Connection to the Calls Landing B_The highest g element of the proposed volume for energy efficiency
COMPLEXITY Insertion of a complex ity level revealing what happens within the building, what happens behind the “curtain” Balance the height of the adjacent 34 building with a higher element Second highest element to allow a green roof referring to the High Court Street
