Ergonomic Nail Cutter for Children

DESIGN PROJECT - 1 The idea is to help children in the age group of 7 to 11 yrs cut their own nails without assistance from their parents and without hurting themselves.

The form is such that the slit in the front where the nail is inserted does not allow any skin to enter ,thus ensuring that the child will not hurt himself in any way. The colour was finalised keeping in mind that it would be used by both girls and boys.

Mock up models made and tested before the final form was finalised.

This mechanism lies inside the form shown thus giving us an outer form that is Ergonomically designed and the mechanism within ensuring ease of use.

DESIGN PROJECT - 2

Device for Dicing and Slicing vegetables

This device was designed to allow people who are not professional cooks ,and those who want to save time in the kitchen to slice and dice vegetables with ease.

For slicing the vegetable these blades are used. For further dicing them the outer cylinder with blades on the inside shaped like a grid, is brought down onto the inner cylinder.

The Design Process

The different colours and forms of the device that I had experimented with.

The product will be made from Polypropylene and manufactured by Injection Moulding


DESIGN PROJECT - 3 This project was done as a part of Display and Control Design in our 4th Semester. We designed an entire device including its controls and the interface for use by children in the age group of 4-7 years.

Learning Device for Children Our design aims to be MINIMALISTIC while keeping children’s preferences in mind.

The Design tries to make learning fun through a combination of form and playful interaction FORM The form was inspired by a hedgehog. Apart from providing a good grip the outer blunt spokes act as shock absorbers in case the device should fall. The outer body would bemade from thick Polyurethane foam ).

Using these controls the children have to match the shapes with slots.

This handle has been made to give the child freedom of movement. The ERGONOMIC PECULIARITIES of children in this age group have been taken into account.

The trackball was added to help the child with navigation in the game that we had designed


DESIGN PROJECT - 4

Device for stacking and Arranging sheets My design brief was to design a system or a product for the storage of sheets with emphasis on retrieval of the sheets when required. The final product was portrayed as something that stationary brand MAPED would sell.

The triangular corners, attached to each other using suitable elastic material.

The idea was to design a new way of storing sheets.My target audience was the student crowd (15 to 24).Hence it had to have a fun elemnet as well, to set it apart from other such products in the market

Working with mild steel on the metal lathe machine and learning the basic operations for eg; facing, turning, taper turning.

Working with Rubberwood and creating a Mortise and Tenon joint.

The Model Making course, wherein we had to choose a product , scale it up or down and having taken measurements make a proportionally correct model.

The materials used were High Impact Polystyrene, Moderate Density Fibreboard. Vacuum forming was one of the processes used to make the model.

The form on the left shows the arrangement of a form and a sub form.Forms have been made from Aluminium. The image on the right uses cross sections to show the transition of one form into another. These profiles have been made from PVC Foam.

Education: A 3rd Year Product Design student at The MIT Institute of Design, Pune. As an Air Force ‘brat’, I changed a dozen schools, thanks to my father’s frequent postings as a fighter pilot, before completing my higher secondary schooling at Delhi Public School, Dwarka, New Delhi. To sum up, I am adaptable and can adjust to different environments and cultures. At the moment, I am studying Product design and Interaction at the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) at Farnham in the UK where I was selected to go by my faculty at MIT for one full semester.

What Design means to me? I enjoy designing for children. Design to me means a holistic combination of functionality, minimalism and simplicity. The beauty of a product lies in a layman looking at a product and thinking that even he could have done it. However simple products are not always the easiest to design. I believe the best way to approach a problem is by following the Design Process. Through this Internship I hope to learn how things actually work in the Industry and put the skills I have acquired as a young designer to good use and moreover keep learning through the experience .

Skills : Sketching and Rendering by hand in various media.I am well versed in the 3D softwares Rhino and Solidworks and have also worked with Catia .I am fluent in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator as well.

Hobbies : I play the violin(fourth grade Associated Board of Royal School of Music) and sing and have performed at various concerts and competitions.I amfond of games and played State level Badminton in school. I have lately started rowing too. I was also a member of the 5 member committee that organises our college fest Quasar.
