THE WHITE MEADOWS
Nestled amidst the embrace of serene white meadows lies a testament to nature’s grace - a residence inspired by the very essence of biophilic architecture. Here, nature intertwines seamlessly with human habitation, both inside and out. Central to its design thinking is the notion of visual symbiosis between the interior sanctum and the vibrant exterior built, fostering an atmosphere of unrivaled tranquility.
The architecture’s grand apertures beckon the sun’s golden rays, infusing the space with vibrant luminosity, all the while forging an unbroken bond with the exterior milieu. A harmonious interplay of lush greens and pristine whites paints a canvas where the lines between artificial and wilderness blurs, creating a landscape that is both of man’s creation and nature’s own masterpiece.

ADAPTIVE REUSE
The intervention focuses on preserving the enclosed space formed by adjacent buildings, thereby bringing urban significance to underutilized structures and fostering a sense of community. This is achieved through the strategic implementation of central wall punctures in the old warehouse building, accompanied by the retrofitting of additional metal supports to maintain structural integrity. By facilitating pedestrian passage through these buildings and ensuring direct accessibility from the road, the intervention acknowledges the inherent human need for architecture as social space.
The initiative proposes the allocation of rental spaces for street vendors, thereby activating the urban fabric and fostering economic activity. Additionally, the installation of canopies to envelop the adjacent buildings creates a cohesive market hall space conducive to street vending and the on-site cultivation of lokta plants within the construction’s periphery.
This intervention not only offers a potential solution to the urban issue of street vendors but also contributes to the creation of a vibrant urban landscape, addressing a current deficiency in the urban context.

Activation of public space by adopting the warehouse buildings as a market hall with street vending comprising of socio-economic daily activities.

Segregation of zones: Public spaces; rental vending spaces, Shared spaces; rental co-working and Private factory.

Subtle contrast to overall built environment with heavy industrial aesthetics, acknowledging the water body and the main plaza.

SITE INFORMATION:

MASTER PLAN WITH GROUND FLOOR PLANManufacturing:
Each level is interconnected by two industrial elevators and staircases. The factory operates within a U-shaped warehouse layout, strategically designed to segregate and streamline warehouse traffic flow, while also minimizing spatial requirements. Additionally, the drying process for lokta is conducted atop the extension buildings, rendering it visible from the main plaza.
Industrial Urbanism:
With scale and significance of projects such as “Aakarshan.” Its magnitude not only commands attention but also imposes a weighty responsibility upon the architect’s shoulders. In reimagining the landscape, the proposed mix-use urban design injects vitality into once-overlooked warehouse structures, bestowing upon them newfound purpose within the urban tapestry.
The envisioned transformation, for a vendor market hall seamlessly intertwined with verdant urban greenery, promises to redefine spatial dynamics while fostering a palpable sense of community. This convergence of commerce and nature holds the potential to catalyze a ripple effect across social spheres, elevating interactions and nurturing a trend-setting paradigm shift within the urban fabric.
In the crucible of “Aakarshan,” the design is not just creation of spaces but the proposal acts as a catalyst for transformative urban dialogue—a steward of innovation and societal progression.

RECHARGE ORBITRON
Design Competition (UTSARGA, 2079)
Typology: EV Charging Station
Location: Lainchaur, Kathmandu

Seperating inner and outer core.

Plan form manipulated in response to the site.
Inclined and fronted towards south for maximum solar exposure.
In response to the pressing need for EV charging solutions that transcend mere functionality, the envisioned charging station design ingeniously addresses the quintessential issue of waiting. Divided into two cores, it intertwines practicality with urban allure.
The inner core pulsates with dynamic energy, featuring a children’s park, a cafe, and an open park with a serene water body. Here, waiting transforms into an opportunity for exploration and leisure, fostering an interactive urban landscape.
Conversely, the outer core seamlessly blends utility with aesthetics. Charging units, visually connected to the inner core, ensure vehicle safety while exuding architectural finesse. In essence, the design redefines the urban charging experience, seamlessly integrating functionality with enrichment.

JUDDHA BARUN YANTRA: A SYMPATHETIC

DESIGN COMPETITION (YATHARTHA 2080)
Typology: Adaptive Reuse/ Reintegration
Location: Basantapur, Kathmandu
Software: Sketchup, Rhino, Lumion, Enscape
Team: Sachin Shrestha

The proposed design for Juddha Barun-Yantra as a socio-cultural center is inspired from the site’s significance as a focal point for daily, seasonal, and yearly socio-cultural and economic activities. Addressing the underused courtyard, the design integrates multidisciplinary space defined to be conceptually open-ended and can be catered to multiple functions resulting to a massive footprint with minimal obstructions, including language classes for tourists, educational programs on Nepali history, and artisan workshops for traditional crafts as an experience center for non-natives.

Studying site surroundings; recognizing the site as a socio-cultural and economical hub of kathmandu.

Retaining the historic architecture and it’s sentimental elements, while allowing reintegration by interventions on the underused courtyard.

Creating levels and steps as an urban landscape for multidisciplinary activities.

AXONOMETRIC VIEW MULTIDISCIPLINARY

A dedicated library with digital archives supports researchers and students interested in Nepali culture, outdoor gathering spaces foster community interaction and serve as a cultural exchange center. Additionally, the facility houses a museum showcasing the historical heritage of the “Barun-Yantra” with the functioning of the Barun Yantra through the basement.
The intervention made has been done with use of traditional materials like brick platforms, wooden frames and staircases. The sympathetic extension proposed is a architectural and preservation strategy that emphasizes a respectful and harmonious integration of new elements with the existing historic fabric.
misc.

the elegance of functionality. As materials weather with the passage of years, functional volumes morph into ageless monuments, each crease and curve narrating a tale of endurance and grace.
In Varanasi, stands the majestic Kashi Vishwanath Temple, a testament to the timeless allure of the Nagara style. Through the intricate tapestry of cultures, traditions, and human practices, the world takes form, each thread weaving its essence into the fabric of our surroundings, shaping the very landscape we navigate.
