Fashion In The 1920’s •

The 1920’s have been called the Lost Generation, the Age of the Flapper, the Jazz Age, and the Roaring Twenties. In the 1920’s, the sweater was an important piece of clothing for a new type of “modern” woman.
-The sweater became known when Elsa wore it and many leaders of the fashion world saw it. •
Flapper costume takes you back to the era of 1920s.

It is said that gangster costumes and the flapper costumes ruled the fashion scene.
-The term flapper was referred to bold young women in the 20s who were dressed in short skirts with a bobbed hair.
1930’s Skirts & Suits • •
Skirts were frequently longer at the back than the front. During the early part of the decade, men’s suits were modified to create the image of a large torso. - Shoulders were squared using wadding or shoulder pads and sleeves were tapered to the wrist. Peaked lapels framed the v-shaped chest and added additional breadth to the wide shoulders.
1940’s Make-Up Style •
Natural beauties (natural with "a little support") were the ideal of the forties.
• Face powder was used to match the skin or to gave a nice rosy glow
1950’s : The Petticoat Time • The full skirts needed support to look good and nylon was used extensively to create bouffant net petticoats or paper nylon petticoats. • Several petticoats often of varying styles were worn to get the 'just right' look of fullness which progressed from a gentle swish to a round ball like bouffant effect by the sixties.
1960’s •The 60’s gave birth to the skinny jeans.
Ponchos, moccasins, love beads, peace signs, medallion necklaces, chain belts, polka dot-printed fabrics, and long, puffed "bubble" sleeves were additional trends in the late 1960s.
By 1968, the hippie look was in style. Both men and women wore frayed bell-bottomed jeans, tiedyed shirts, work shirts, and headbands. Wearing sandals was also part of the hippie look for both men and women. Women would often go barefoot, and some even went braless.
1970’s Hairstyles • The 1970's hairstyles were considered groovy and retro, and was typically worn longer by both men and women • Back in the day, even men's 1970s hairstyles were wild but fabulous. • The length of the hairstyles were be a bit longer than their ears and jaw line.
1980’s The clothes worn in the 80s depicted people who were trying to find themselves. They looked for ways to express their creativity and individuality. Shoulder pads may very well be the worst of the top 10 80s fashion fads. The shorter the better… women and girls loved miniskirts. Denim was the most popular, but miniskirts were made in a number of other materials including knit and leather. These were often paired with leggings . Whatever our reasoning was at the time, at least one or two pairs of leg warmers could be found in every girl’s dresser.
•Men adopted the punk look with great enthusiasm in the 1990’s. •1990’s fashion trends were also about Goth clothing. •Workouts turned out to have a hip look.
