More than 30 people have been injured in a refinery fire and explosion, in Panjin, Liaoning province, China.

At least five people have died and a further eight are missing. The blast, which occurred at 13:30 local time, involved workers who were carrying out maintenance work on the site at the time.

The oil refinery and petrochemical processing complex has been shut down, pending a detailed investigation.

TEXAS, USA Phillips 66

Firefighting crews in the USA have extinguished a fire, which occurred January 17 at Phillips 66’s 149,000-barrel-per-day jointventure refinery in Borger, Texas. The company confirmed that six people have been treated for injuries.

Local media reported the fire had occurred in the storage tank farm at the Borger complex, causing a state highway to close near the refinery. All workers at the refinery have been accounted for and the cause of the incident is being investigated, according to a company spokesperson.

Kinder Morgan Energy Partners

The state of Nevada, USA, has declared a state of emergency after a leak in a pipeline that supplies fuel to Las Vegas, was detected. Kinder Morgan Energy Partners, the operator of the affected pipeline, stated the leak was detected on Thursday 9 at a pumping station in Long Beach, California, USA.

The company says the station and the pipeline were initially shut down but have since resumed operations.
