T his month was all about P.Ae'hYC ! Racing against time. with the " Marina" a later Apex this month .. It had a quick chicane start off to the Gold Coast looking at a " new kimi raikkonen" .. then the massive Drift with the Noosa Beach " Boys" and their toys on the beach . Oops another slip ...having too much fun at "t he Hill" with a bit of grassroots sparkplug bling in the "Gear Garden" with no ching! But others made up for that amongst the waterfront Reeds! Many Thanks! With lots of cheers . noise and vroom. The " Marina" then slipped into the paddock with the clicking paparazzi team. ..What a lot of action there! ..At last the " Marina" veered back to sim racing onto the Computer Jargon Leetspeach track. . and the dust settling down.. What a ride! Contributions always w elcome. media@noosacarclub.com.au

What is better than starting a Sunday morning with a drive through the beautiful Noosa Hinterland and then having lunch with car lover friends. On Sunday 13 th June Club members met at the Club Shed for a I O.30am departure. The convoy meander it's way though Eumundi then back to the outskirts of Ninderry, Yandina and Bli Bli, finally arriving at Rosemount. To meet us were more Club members.

Two Classic Cars caught my eye immediately as we drove in at the parking area of the Guru Cafe. A beautiful Jaguar E-type described by many as one of the most beautiful cars ever made. The other a bright red MGA. Or was it the same Sports style trunk luggage racks and tan leather suitcases? Lucky owners Ronald & Barbara McCallum (E-Type) and Filip & Anna Pulitano (MGA). Hope to have a closer look at these two cars at our Classic Car Show l B" July! We made our way past a beautiful duck pond and I was quite surprised to see a few whistling ducks around. Once inside it was time to have a look at the tantalising offerings. Yes Samosas will do me '" reminds me of the old country.

Now knowing Dave he would not let new members get away without introducing themselves. A first outing for Gerri and Glen as well as Jane & Graham ,. great that you come and hope to see you at all our events. Inside it was eat & mingle and outside it was eat, mingle and fluffy pouches! An enjoyable Cruise & Dine for all!

Lakeside Park is one of Australia's most favorite and classic circuits. Since its opening in 1961, the circuit, formerly known as Lakeside International Raceway, has hosted mainly Australian touring car rounds, GT races and the Australian Superbike Championship. In addition, the circuit twice hosted grands prix for formula race cars, with Graham Hill winning the first edition with a BRM in 1966.The circuit cuts through grassland along the shores of Lake Kurwongbah, and is situated 30 kilometres north of Brisbane in the state of Queensland. ~ ~

It was a beautiful, sunny, winter morning on June 5th , crisp & clear, as cars started rolling into the arena of Lakeside Park, ready for a day of serious racing action. Lakeside Park can strike fear into the heart of the bravest man as it is always a white- knuckle experience. Built in 1961 and formerly known as Lakeside International Raceway, it is one of Australia's most famous and classic circuits, located 30 kms north of Brisbane. Fourteen 'Motorsport Warriors' from NBCCC took up the challenge, joining our neighbouring Club, SCMS & MX5 Club, all were willing, ready & able to shred tyres, burn fuel & drive like FI heroes around the Lakeside Track. And they did! Additional Club members arrived throughout the day ..,............_ ..,....,.........r ----.-... to soak up the sun & cheer the cars home .

George McCallum's JAGUAR ~ -~

T he name Jaguar spells success: success on the most famous racing circuits in the world, and commercial success on every market where the make was on offer. At its launch in March 1961, the E-type not only stole the show but also every headline. Enzo Ferrari described the Jaguar as the most beautiful car in the world. In 1961 it had a 265bhp 3.8 -litre engine and four-speed manual 'box. A claimed top speed of 150m ph was a little optimistic for standard production versions, but with a list price of £2097 for the Roadster and £2196 for the Coupe, no -one seemed to care - it was half the price of its more exotic rivals. Racing drivers and celebrities alike were soon flocking to buy an E-Type. The E-Type soldiered on until 1975, when it was replaced by the XJ-S. Today, the E-Type is rightly regarded as a blue-chip classic. George McCallum purchased this Jaguar E-Type Mark III in December 2015. A few updates were done to it to date. Mainly the Seat Upholstery, redone in perforated leather with new seat springs. Mechanically the original carburettors and manifolds were removed and replaced with six dual throat carburettors and manifolds with new electronic ignition and coil. A new two-inch stainless-steel exhaust, including mufflers were fitted. "I have put all original parts into storage, if they need be reinstalled in the future", says George. "The E-Type was my dream and I'm now living that dream!"

- 27 June 2021 Wow oh wow... What an event the 2021 Noosa Hillclimb was! The 24 th year of the event has seen 132 drivers putting themselves and their vehicles to the test, as they weaved through 1500 metres of bitumen, steering through 14 tight & moderately sweeping corners. For Justin McCarthy it certainly was exciting as he celebrated his 81 st Birthday doing the thing he loves..racing his 1925 Austin 7 up the Hill as he had been doing for many years. It was also Birthday celebrations for our Pizza Vendor and another Racing Driver! But the Super Stars for 2021 who Wowed the crowd were: Professional racing Driver Broc Feeney, and Supercar Champion Fabian Coulthard . Major Sponsor Reed & Co also brought 14 cars to the track as part of "TH E REED TEAM". It was also a first for Adrian Reed to race -18 th place overall congratulations!

Reed&Co.

Our Club had 23 entries over the weekend. Our fastest Young Member was Calvin Atkinson with 16th position overall and first in the Sports 2 seater Class - well done. A clean sweep for Club members: Ray Mullerthe winner in the V8 Muscle cars class, Wayne Aherne second and Bruce Dekker 3 rd - Great racing results! The event racing Sponsor also were on the podium: Adrian Reed for this First time racing at the hill came 18th over all and Jason Mc Garry from Eureka Landscaping won the Clubman 1601 - 2000cc class & position 'l O" overall. We would like to thank Jason & his team assisting our club in a tremendous way long before the event, the pull down & cleanup afterwards .. also for the plants in the Gear Garden - Many thanks.

Long racing Member Peter Dutkowski came 3 rd in the 2 seater 2001 - 3000cc class. Still racing too was Rob van Wegen but think that son Ben (16 Th overall) has the speed now. Another long time racer at the Hill is Max Stephenson who took to the podiun once again winner of the Regularity class - his beautiful Aston Martin was defenitely the best Classic Racing car in the pits. Congratulations. I would like to mention Scott Bingham too who could not have all his Runs on the track.. but had more runs in the pits helping .. still a great result for you and hopefully you will have all your runs on the track next time!

And behind the scenes were the Noosa Beach Classic Car Club commitee , Volunteers , Support Members and the Racers Super Support team. A Big thank You to ALL. A special Thanks to Jon Carroll , Mike & Kate Rider for all their hard work, months before the event. RENEWED VIGOUR

Th e Co nquest was unveiled in May 1953 and was a slight ly modified Lanchester Leda body w it h th e Daimler grille. How ever , under th e bonnet was a new 2Y2 litre six-cylinder engine t o pow er th e compact saloo n. It is said th at th e car was given th e name 'Conquest', as its basic pre-tax price was £.1 ,066 - £.1 ,5 11-5s-1Od w it h purchase tax (£. 1,5 1I .29p).

THE 1959 DAIMLER SP250 W

It was supplied w it h deep carpets, all-leat her upholstery and walnut wood was used for th e fascia and door cappings. Most noticeable was th e mod ern t reatment of th e front end of th e car, a major departure for Daimler , but it did not detract from th e majesty of th e name. Today, th e Co nquest may look quaint and rat her upright , but in 1953 it was as mod ern as anything else on th e road. Th e quirky SP 250 w it h a great V8 engine appealed and had been th e Best in Show at one of th e early N oosa Beach C lassic Car events after N oosa local T erry Lister resto red th e car in mid to late 80's. It was th e last SP250 imported into Australia new and th e 4th last ever made, th e ot her 3 going to owners/employees/ museum . It seemed appro priate to bring th e car back to th e N oosa area w here T erry did th e major restoration after I found it at O ldt imer Aust ralia last year, st ill in its restored condition from 1980's.....w hich is excellent ! Here is Terry Lister in his jaguar Australia workshop in Cooroy. In 1984 he expertly restored the 1959 Daimler SP250 in his free time. This car won the inaugural Noosa Classic Car Show trophy, in 1988 Terry was a long standing member of the Noosa Beach Classic car Club. So it is fantastic to hear that his once pride and joy is back in town. Hopefully we will see it again at the Classic Car Show soon and later in the year as part of Noosa Beach Classica on Hastings St. 16

1964 Daimler SP250 IDart' This car is a rare Australian delivered, factory right hand drive example. There is a copy of the original Registration of Ownership on file that shows this particular Daimler SP250 was delivered new to Mr Grahame Elith from Mosman, NSW, on 21 st December 1964. Mr Elith purchased the car through Hercules Motors Pty Ltd in Sydney. The chassis and engine numbers are both noted on the original Registration of Ownership and confirm that this car retains its original engine and it is therefore 'matching numbers'. The car was delivered with quite a few extras, including: an adjustable steering, a complete rear bumper, wire wheels and even a wood rimmed steering wheel. Interestingly, the car was delivered new with a hard top but no soft top. This SP250 has quite an interesting history. It is believed to be the last SP250 to be sold new in Australia and the fourth last SP250 every built. This car arrived into Australia along with another SP250 that went to the Canberra police force. That would have been an interesting patrol car back in the day!

The first owner traded the SP250 for a family car in 1972 when his wife was pregnant with their first child. Whilst the subsequent owners of the car are known, it wasn't until 1986 when it was acquired by Terry Listerfrom Noosa, QLD that it came back into the public domain. The car was in poor condition, though it still retained its fastback style hard top built by Stan Brown all those years ago. Lister took it upon himself to restore the car and he soon embarked on a total nut and bolt restoration. His first challenge was to find a new boot lid and some of the other body parts which had been removed when the fastback style hard top was installed. Eventually a wrecked SP250 was found in the UK which still had all the parts needed in good condition. All his efforts were rewarded when the completely restored Daimler, now red with a light tan interior, won 'Best of Show' at the inaugural Noosa Classic Car Show in 1989. The car is featured in the March/May 1989 issue of Sports & Classic Cars Australia magazine, a copy of which will accompany the car. The current owner purchased the Daimler in 2018 from a deceased estate. The car had not been used for a few years and needed recommissioning. The owner did most of the work himself. He also had the interior retrimmed by Coastal Auto Upholstery in Beerwah, QLD. Today this Daimler SP250 retains its red paintwork as restored by Terry Lister in excess of 30 years ago. The car presents and drives exceptionally well. The interior is in great condition. The 'as new' leather feels supple and soft, the carpets and door cards are also in good condition. The timber steering wheel and gear knob were hand made by Terry Lister from Tasmanian Oak and are a feature.

Turn the ignition on, wait a few seconds for the fuel pump to do its work, pull out the choke, turn the key and the V8 Very early in its life the car was involved in an accident roars to life. You have got to love these British sports car which damaged the hard top. In his quest to find someone with V8 engines ... After warming up for a few minutes this locally who could repair the hard top Elith got in touch with car very quickly settles into a smooth idle. It's time to take it master craftsman Stan Brown of Brookvale in Sydney. After out on the road! Now, the first key pointto remember isthat discussing possible solutions with him it was decided Stan these cars do not have synchro on first gear. The big V8 has would build a custom, all aluminium, fastback style hard plenty of torque so you only need first when taking off from top. There are photos on file showing the car with the new standstill, though if you do need to change down it is a skill hard top which definitely changed the look of the car. While easily mastered. This Daimler SP250 has more than enough that was being done it was suggested that fitting four twin power on tap and the engine revs strongly through the rev choke Weber carburetors would give the car a bit more get range. You almost expect it to be somewhat 'rattley', but up and go! The bonnet had to be modified to make it fit! it's not! The four-speed gearbox feels smooth and the car is There are period photos of the car on file with this set up. relatively easy to drive. These Daimlers have no power Supposedly the 'improvements' were done to allow this steering and with plenty of weight up front they are quite SP250 to be raced as a GT car in that short-lived class of heavy at parking speed, though out on the open road the motor sport in Australia.
