BOUTIQUE HOTEL DESIGN PROJECT STATEMENT
The hotel is located in 1540 Broadway in the center of downtown Oakland, California. The property currently has a small two-story retail structure. HGI plans to demolish the existing structure and has hired an architect to develop plans for a new downtown boutique hotel. The hotel will primarily serve business guests, but some tourists are expected as well. It will have eight stories, plus a rooftop sky bar. The sky bar will provide cocktails, musical entertainment, and light hors-d’oeuvres from the restaurant kitchen (via a dedicated elevator). Besides, the building will have two basement levels for parking.

Concept Statement Amalgamation is my concept in this project. The word means the unity of distinctive components, together, they can create magic! For a seed to grow into a tree, it needs soil, light, water, patience and time. As the seed is being nurtured, it will become a thriving giant, just as the city of Oakland. The city of Oakland is well known of its multicultural life style. The city’s diversity goes from artistic creativity to exquisite high science technology. All in all, in my interior concept, the hotel should link to Oakland city as a representation of culture and new innovations. The interior space can be mixed modernly and traditionally in order to display the unique landscape of the Oakland city. The street art is one of a kind decorations to kindle a vivid atmosphere.

Mood Board The concept for the hotel will convey a living attitude: work hard, and play harder. Therefore, the hotel will express two different functionalities during daytime and night time. In the daytime, the hotel is a library or a study chamber which is resourceful and quiet. All is being said, the hotel can offer a suitable environment to guests’ needs of conferences and high productivity. However, at the night time, the hotel will become a high-end, trendy, intimate lounge that’s going to attract young successful entrepreneurs, professionals and life-style enthusiasts to allow them to be themselves amongst each other.

Mood Board & Color Palette According to the function of the building, the interior atmosphere is defined as nature, relaxation, and enjoyment. As we know, the feeling of the refugee is restless and nervous. Also, they don’t like to communicate with other people. To solve the kind of psychological problems, light, and soft colors would help them relaxing in visual effect. Additionally, under the sunshine, types of colors can almost keep their color character.

THE COAST CAFE & BAKERY DESIGN PROJECT STATEMENT Your client is a restaurateur who is expanding and opening The Coast Café & Bakery” in a busy mixed residential / commercial neighborhood in San Francisco. The concept for the restaurant is to create a price-friendly and casual restaurant where guests feel comfortable enough to “dine-out” as frequently as they might “eat-in” at their own homes. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served. The clientele will be residents, visitors to the area and business owners, clients and workers. While the concept for the food is ‘American Comfort”, the dishes will not be ordinary. For example, take a simple hamburger and make it extraordinary with fresh ground beef, fresh grilled veggies on a home-made bun and add fresh cut French fries and garden greens on the side. What about a mile-high piece of apple pie with scratch made crust topped with fresh whipped cream? Just about every item will be prepared in-house. As a “scratch” restaurant, the talented and dedicated staff takes great pride in all its baked goods . . . especially cakes, pies, and breads. Simple food, wonderfully prepared; given a great interior, this restaurant will be a success and become a ‘must go to’ spot in the neighborhood.

In the design of the logo, the logo’s concept is things on the beach as driftwood, stone, sand. First, the cafÊ is located in San Francisco, and its name has the keyword (Coast). Second, according to my experience, the coast has lots of driftwood on the beach. Therefore, there is a connection between driftwood and shore.
