Newsome Milponds Project

The central metallic obelisk marks the landmark and centrepiece of the village and the echo of the tree like form along with the water feature represents the life stream of Newsome. The images below show some of the detail features of the furniture of the garden and lighting around it. The ponds also provide an area of habitation for wildlife such as birds in the local areas as shown in the sections above.

NEWSOME COURT GARDEN /01

SITE PLAN 1:400 The Newsome Court Garden will provide a central green land space for the community to enjoy, enhancing the landscape also utilising the ponds in the addition of a water cascade on the site springing up from it from under the stone feature of the garden. The planting of various trees and vegetation such as oak and birch around the site will provide a boundary around the site, establishing a clear point of entrance to the garden. The garden has the potential to host a vast array of community events for different age groups and can become a centre-point of the local village providing activities for local inhabitants. The Newsome Court garden symbolises the ‘hearing’ of the communities voice. The garden expresses different levels of beautifully crafted landforms covered in grass which can be a great place to sit, lay down and reflect also a potential picnic and social space.

NEWSOME PUBLIC OPEN SPACE The Newsome Court Garden features a ‘throne’ like stone feature and figuratively speaking 24 governmental seats, encircling the throne to symbolize and represent that the community has a voice in Newsome and can have an influence in the village settlement the can be the parliamentary voice for what takes place in the local setting. This represents the strong character of the area and the unity of the community also demonstrating the two dimensions of the court representing the judicial administration of Newsome and the courtyard garden being the court of the village.

The S.E.E.D

Social, Economic, Environmental Development. The cantilever and balcony as well as protruding windows add a static dynamism to the complex, with an elegance of the simplicity of the crisp edge of the composition. The homes are functional, affordable, and have a unique character which allow for natural light to enter into the premises with strategic windows taking advantage of some of the site views.

Newsome Cohousing

NEWSOME COURT GARDEN /01

The Social, Economic, Elderly, Development provides seeds of growth in the field of community integration bringing together adequate housing for the elderly, young families and student sized affordable housing, creating a tapestry of generational integration of legacy in the local area. The S.E.E.D aims to bridge the local generational gap through the housing complex in order for the generations to overlap. By providing a duo of family terrace two storey homes which overlap the bungalow in between the houses as well as a smaller one storey two bed student sized house adjacent on the end of the street there is a balance of housing typology which intertwines beautifully as indicated by the hues of the colour pallet of the mews type housing street. The central paving provides bike sheds and some benches as well as a small play area with a climbing frame located adjacent to a field, a safe place for children playing in the local area providing some activity to engage in.

EXTERIOR RENDERS ‘TOWN HOTEL’ The character of the building is sensitive to the materiality of the town emblematic of the Yorkshire stone respectful to the towns heritage whilst having a contemporary facade with a luster which glimmers in the Huddersfield Town skyline. The hotel capitalizes on the event of Huddersfield Town Football Club’s promotion with a strategy that has longevity beyond initial affluence of the catalyst event hoping to sustain that demand for the future. By creating a retail opportunity with the hotel boutique shop unit, this could increase the affluence of the hotel and of the town perhaps providing an upmarket clothing store in the backstreets of the Town.

Town Hotel

Town Hotel The building utilises strategic views of the townscape such as towards the train station and castle hill, which is visible from the top tier, also St Peter Church views overlooking key vistas such as a view of the Kirklees Stadium as well as the abundance of hills and urban landscape within the proximity of Huddersfield Town Centre.
