Program Notes
Off the Grid is a fun and challenging duet for advanced snare drummers that merges a groove-oriented feel with some popular flam grid presentations in a funky call and response style. Players also have the unique option of either performing the included solo transcriptions or creating and featuring their own improvisational skills within the given 20-bar solo sections. While many visual instructions are included, we encourage performers to be creative and insert your own visuals (backsticking, twirls, stick toss/juggling, sweeps, and more) where the opportunities exist. No matter the choice of snare drums, improvised or transcribed solos, or visual elements, staying on or off the grid will test players of all levels!
Off the Grid is dedicated to Tom Float, the legendary teacher and drum corps caption head known for developing and popularizing the concept of the “grid.”
