Introduction

We would like to first thank Jim Casella and Murray Gusseck at Tapspace for their belief in this project. To see a project like this through to completion was quite a bit of fun for us, and your belief in it is truly an honor.

A big-time thanks to Dr. Rob Parks and Matthew Tremmel for their help in proofreading early drafts of the pieces and to their students at Lebanon Trail High School in Frisco, Texas, for their participation in the video recordings of these pieces.

Student performers in the videos include: David Ball, Dhriti Barnwal, Eesha Bhatnagar, Shreya Chandna, Jonathan Chao, Luke Cheng, Stanley Chuang, Drew Colquhoun, Christian Conley, Caleb Crossman, Reed Davidson, Aman Deva, Azlyn Doucet, Alex Durham, Elson Fu, Lohendra Hariharan, Brandon He, Avi Kilaru, Kihoon Kim, John McKey, Zaydan Mueller, Sahana Naharaajan, Vincent Ngo, Adelyn Parks, Keyur Patadia, Jacob Roco, Steffi Sam, Chase Skender, Grant Thomas, JC Timpani, Finley Welton, and Asher Worth. There is no way this project would exist in its current format without their help and enthusiasm.

Thanks to Chris Vance for the inspiration, support, and conversations over many meals on Thursdays. Thanks to Jamee Barton, Jim Campbell (University of Kentucky), Dr. Chad Floyd (Campbellsville University), Ralph Hicks, Eric Rath (Canyon High School, Texas), Dr. Matthew Talbert (Ohio University) and John Willmarth (Summerville High School, South Carolina). I would like to thank my wife, Susan, for her endless support and for putting up with my long hours at the computer screen writing music. Additionally, I’m grateful to my two daughters, Holly and Katie, for being a constant source of inspiration and motivation for me to be the best person I can be. Thanks to Jim Campbell for his decades of support, inspiration, and mentorship. I owe so much of my professional life directly to my relationship with you. Lastly, thanks to Eric for your continued friendship, motivation, and inspiration over all these years and for having the awesome idea for this project in the first place.

I would like to thank my wife, Tiffany, and my daughter, Sara, for weathering repeated listening of these pieces during their creation. I would also like to extend deep gratitude to my primary teachers Jim Corcoran and Jeff Harrison for supporting me so much through my musical growth. There are many other people I would like to thank, but I need to keep this succinct. Thank you!
