PROGRAM NOTES

Year One was written for my middle school percussion ensemble to mark my first year of teaching at the Eastman Community Music School. This piece conveys the excitement and energy I feel each day working with my students.

Aggressive and engaging, groove and intensity are key. A nice addition to a concert program, Year One is a real barn burner!

Players And Instrumentation

Year One requires 5 players with the following instrumentation:

1. Bongos (or other similarly pitched drums)

2. 2 Congas (or other similarly pitched drums)

3. 2 Medium toms

4. 2 Low toms

5. Bass drum
