ACADEMICS Curriculum • Extensive curriculum fosters intellectual growth, creative curiosity, and a sense of values while preparing students to embrace a college curriculum with enthusiasm. • 10 Academic Departments: Communications, English, Mathematics, Physical Education, Religious Studies, Science, Social Studies, Technology, The Arts, and World Language. • AP courses are not offered until junior year and are limited by pre-requisites, scheduling, and teacher approval. Not all students who wish to take an AP class are able. • All courses at Immaculate Heart Academy bear significant rigor with strong writing and critical thinking components. A student who has only taken College Preparatory courses should be viewed as having taken a rigorous course load. Academic Levels: CP/H/AH/AP/STEM • College preparatory courses are available at all levels. • Honors courses are available through all grade levels in English, Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Art. • Advanced Honors courses are offered in English and History. History Advanced Honors is only offered junior year. English Advanced Honors is only offered to freshmen and sophomores. • 17 Advanced Placement courses are offered in Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science A, Environmental Science, Physics C, Physics 1, English (Language and Composition), English (Literature and Composition), French Language and Culture, Spanish Language and Culture, US History, Comparative Government, Psychology, and Studio Art. • AP science courses are awarded 6 credits, instead of 5, because these classes meet additional minutes per class cycle. Students give up part of their lunch period and their study period if they are taking an AP science course. • STEM courses are offered for students who are admitted to the STEM program through a separate application process. Students who complete the entire STEM program are taking the most rigorous course load allowed. • For a non-STEM student, the most rigorous course load would include a total of three to five AP classes. Grading System A+ = 97-100 Superior A = 93-96 Excellent B+ = 89-92 Very Good B = 85-88 Good C+ = 81-84 Above Average C = 77-80 Average

D+ = 73-76 Fair D = 70-72 Passing F = < 70 Failure I = Incomplete ME = Medical Excuse

Reporting of Grades/Statement of Class Rank IHA now runs on a two-semester schedule, with each semester consisting of eighteen weeks. Senior grades will be reported as a snapshot of the semester midpoint. Considering the quality of the student body and the rigorous college prep course of study, Immaculate Heart Academy does not rank its students. A student’s cumulative grade point average is calculated using the following system of weighting: Grade

STEM@theheart In September of 2014, IHA introduced the accelerated STEM program for academically qualified students. STEM@theheart includes more than just the disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and math. The program’s core focuses on the four C’s: communication, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. By partnering with the nationally known organization, Project Lead the Way, we have incorporated two demanding engineering courses into our curriculum. The Class of 2018 included the first graduates of our STEM program. IHA PSAT The Class of 2019 has achieved the following results for the PSAT:

2017–18 STATISTICS College Courses Project Acceleration, in conjunction with Seton Hall University, allows our students to accrue college credit from Seton Hall University. The following courses are applicable: Spanish and French. Service At IHA, we experience a different type of Millennial Generation — social justice advocates. Last year, more than 700 students gave 40,000+ hours of service to more than 50 organizations. Our young women, ages 14-18, are touching the lives of others while finding their own lives changed. IHA girls are truly shedding a new light on what it means to be a millennial. In 2017–18 alone, our young women: • Sponsored more than 15 student-led service groups • Provided 260 Christmas gifts to children in need • Provided Easter baskets to 250+ children in need • Cooked 130 meals for local assisted living • Collected more than 500 children’s books for local underprivileged students • Wrote hundreds of letters to detainees • Volunteered almost 50 hours of swim lessons for students with special needs • Gave 200+ hours teaching Religious Education classes • Dedicated more than 1,000 collective hours to Camp Acorn • Completed almost three times the service required of them • Raised more than $7,000 for cancer care and treatment through IHA’s Annual Powderpuff Tournament

Athletics The success of our scholar-athletes at Immaculate Heart Academy is a reflection of the focus, commitment, and team ethic that enrich everything we do. Each year, IHA teams dominate at the league, county, sectional, and state levels and are recognized with a wide variety of Coach, Player, and Team of the Year awards. In the 2017–18 school year, the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) named IHA in the top three athletic programs in New Jersey. This was the thirteenth consecutive year that Immaculate Heart Academy was ranked in the top five athletic programs in the state. 2017–18 School Highlights
