Thorbjørn Sjøgren Danish magazine “Folk & Music” “It’s difficult to single out high points on Færd, for it meshes together so well. Romme’s soprano Sax...., Here it gives music a distinctive flavour not often found in folk.” Jennifer Hanson, “Rambles”

Margret RoadKnight A unique and passionate artist, renowned for her powerful vocals and wide ranging repertoire. Margret RoadKnight thrives outside the mainstream music scene with flair and soul. Four decades on, she continues to tour Australia and overseas singing either accapella, or with her guitar and African thumb piano, solo, or with accompanying musicians (and yes, she still reprises her fondly remembered mid-70’s Australiana hit “Girls in our town”). 2006 marks 43 years of professional singing and 33 years since her first record was released.
Margret made her singing debut in Melbourne theatre in 1963. Since then she has performed solo, and collaborated with a plethora of local and overseas performers in jazz, blues, gospel, folk, comedy and social commentary songs in concert halls, cathedrals, clubs and campuses all over the world. Margret has recorded ten albums and has been featured on twenty-four others. She’s sung the theme song for two films (and was in Tina Turner’s latest movie). She has an impressive list of credits (too many to mention in this space) including: Eisteddfod adjudicator, correspondent on the gospel music scene, Jazz festival honour roll, musical director for the touring Paul Robeson tribute theatre show, performed in the Sydney Opera House season of ‘Cinderella Acappela’. In the 80’s her promotional partnership ‘Honkey Tonk Angels’ toured and presented overseas singers Ellen McIlwaine, Holly Near, Tom Paxton, Mick Newberry and Jeremy Taylor. Margret first travelled overseas in 1974, and more recently to West Africa in 1996. In 1999 and 2000 Margret returned to the USA to study and record Gospel with 2,000 - voiced mass choirs at the Gospel Music workshop of America conventions in New Orleans.
“....as much for her impressive voice and choice of songs, RoadKnight is delightful because she sheds so much fresh light on the nature of the world and it’s people”...Tribune (Oakland), San Fransisco
Don’t miss Margret’s Show! (Supported by Derek Moule) At the Folk Centre... 8pm (Doors open 7.30pm) Thursday 5th October $15 / $12 - Members & Concession

Thanx.....
If you have visited the Folk Centre recently, you will have noticed the wonderful framed posters on our walls. These are all due to the imagination of the tireless Bob Lynch. Bob’s expertise was also behind the Folk Awards. Thankyou Bob you’re a champ. Infolkus has also been full of great photos recently. Not only performers have been documented, but also our members and audiences! The man behind the camera was Peter Finch. Thanks Peter for all the time and effort you’ve put in!

FOLK TRAX
Hi We are rapidly approaching the end of the year and that means summer is a coming. And with that the folk festival season really starts again. But let me assure you that it is folk festival season all year round at Folk Trax. There is always something new to listen to. John has worked hard again and most of the Topic catalogue is now back online. There are some new ones also. Spiral Dance managed to grab a swag of State Folk Awards with their new CD “The Quickening” and we also added the previous one “Notes of Being”, Paul Lawler and the Just Desserts delight with “A Taste of Good Music”. Prepare your meal while listening to the instructions. What a way to cook! West Australian country singer/songwriter Joel Smoker joined Folk Trax with 3 CDs and 3 cassettes. And from Ireland there is Puline Scanlonwith her new CD “Hush”. So where do you find all this and hundreds more Folk CD’s? At www.folktrax.com of course. Don’t forget to claim your 10% discount if you are a member of your folk federation or reader of the Folk Rag. It is a lot cheaper then parking your car in a car park. If you are in Adelaide you can visit Folk Trax at the SA Folk Centre, corner George Street and South Road weekdays between 10 and 5 or Saturdays between 10 and noon.
