Jones International University Post Observation Reflection Conference (To be used by the observer at the post conference) Name of observer: Renee Name of Student Teacher: Tara Date: 10/17/10 Class: English Grade Level: 9th
I.
Summarize As you reflect on this lesson, what are some strategies that worked? What are some things that captured your attention? The plot summaries and irony exercises. The plot summaries worked because the students got to work in pairs and they knew they had to brief but include the important. The irony exercise worked because they got to listen to a popular song that had a lot of statements that were not irony. You could do concept attainment with examples and non-examples and turn the nonexample into examples.
II.
Analyze What did you notice about your student(s) during the lesson? What were the challenges for students? For some of the students irony was challenge. I would try to use the concept attainment exercise to see which kids got it and didn’t. I could even done a pre-test and then create other lessons for the lessons who did not get it. The kids who got it could write an essay using irony. The students were really engaged and attentive. The students did test me at the beginning but I was able to get their attention from then on. You make the lessons as interesting as possible.
III.
Construct new learning What are some of the things you are taking away from this experience that will influence your practice in the future? What are some of things you are learning about your teaching and your students? I will remember to do concept attainment. It is helpful to do a pre-test when I have my own class. I will focus on dignify the incorrect response.
